El grabs Arkin's hand as he pulls him out of the seat. He smears blood on the old man’s hand.

“Sorry lad, you opened up your wounds in your sleep. Going to have to stitch you up again.” Arkin says.

Kib on the other hand feeling a little better gets straight to work, even with his sore shoulder.

Kib checks on El after work and helps to change his bandages. He’s in the farmhouse being taken care of by Helen again.

“Has El always bitched and whined whenever he got hurt?” Kib asks Helen.

“Yes dear, he always has,” Helen replies with her old soothing voice.

“I’m right here,” El says exasperated.

“Arkin says your wounds opened up last night.” Helen comments.

“What, did you sleep like shit?” Kib cocks a brow while he stares at El.

“I just had the worst dream.” El leans back and looks up at the ceiling.

“Well, dreams are all about imagination. So I expect your dreams to be shit.” Kib shrugs.

“I have feelings.” El states.

“Do you now?” Erin steps through the front door and closes it behind her.

“El was just telling us he had a bad dream last night.” Kib comments.

“Aww, the poor guy,” Erin teases. “Have a rough night?”

“Oh come on, the two of you have dreams.” El crosses his arms, a thought crosses his mind, and he looks at Kib. “You dream, right?”

“I, ugh…” Kib turns and looks towards the window. “I do El. I dream about grubs.”

“Grubs?” El and Erin look towards the little purple kobold.

“Grubs.” He affirms his statement.

“What does that mean?” Erin stifles a laugh. El shrugs looking just as confused and entertained as her.

“I think I need to be alone. Alone with Helen. Helen, there’s a grub in a tree I can’t reach.” Kib walks to the door and opens it.

“Alright, sweetie.” Helen leaves the farmhouse.

Kib looks back at El and winks at him before leaving.

“Hmm, weird little dude.” Erin peeks out the window at the kobold as he drags poor Helen away from her home.

“You have no idea.” El leans back holding an arm over his face.

“Hey,” Erin sits down across from El, “Drigs said you were thinking of going to Crestfall.” Erin rubs her palms together looking to the side.

“Is something wrong? I was just worried about causing any more trouble.” El props his arms up and then pushes himself up in his chair. He grits his teeth as he does so.

“No, no. I’m sorry to worry you like this. I just thought you could deliver a letter for me. I have some family in Crestfall. It would be nice if they knew I was doing okay.” Erin had a sullen smile.

“I wish I had any opportunity to speak, to correspond, to just know my family is okay. I can deliver a letter for you.” El reaches forward and puts a hand on Erin’s knee.

“Thank you!” She quickly wraps her arms around El, hugging him a bit too tight with his injuries, but El doesn’t mind.

The hug is different from a half-assed show of affection from Arkin or smothering love from Helen. No, El felt safer in this hug. El felt like he could be vulnerable. He had said something about his family for the first time in years. Erin pulls away from the hug.

“Thank you.” She sniffles.

“It’s nothing.” El rubs the back of his head. “Did you have the letter?” He smiles as he looks at Erin's soft features.

“Oh, well, I didn’t think I’d get this far. I’ll have to go write something.” She shrugs with a slight smile before standing up and quickly rubbing at the sides of her eyes. “Take care of yourself.” She says to El before leaving the farmhouse.

“You too,” El mutters as the door closes.

What did she mean to him?

Kib dreams of himself plucking a grub off a tree, plopping it into his mouth, and then looking down at his bloated rotund body. He’s eaten too many grubs to walk. The kobold's body is swollen like a berry, and his purple scales add to the aesthetic. Kib hears the far-off snickering and quieted laughter of El and Erin and Top.

Top says his scales are girly, Erin says he doesn't have cute clothes which makes him primitive, and El says he’s a monster whose only value is the experience he gives when killed.

Kib bursts into tears and leans towards his warren. He rolls down a hill, up a hill, through a trench, and towards the open mouth of his warren. A huge paddle flies out of the entrance of the warren and knocks him away.

Instead, he flies all the way to the town and through the doors of the tavern. Bright lights flash everywhere. Someone dumps a pitcher of booze over him, and he finally stops rolling as a boot stomps on his tail. Kib looks up at Drigs who is holding a sewing needle.

“Not a fan,” Drigs growls before slamming the sewing needle into Kib. There is a massive popping noise before Kib bursts awake.
