El does his morning work without seeing any sign of Bandlor. He tends to the fields, the cattle, and checks the perimeter fence. Another board has had its nails removed. El puts up the board again, but this time sets three extra nails on top of the board. Maybe one day El could even make a trade with fey instead of just hoping they don't tear apart his fence for scrap metal.

Before he could possibly run into Bal, El decides to go out back towards the Kobold den, but instead finds a Goblin Dog devouring a rotting corpse. He fires his crossbow at the creature, but in his frustration, forgets what he was taught. He misses the first bolt. He reloads but the Goblin Dog is upon him before he can fire.
He deflects the dog’s attack with his crossbow’s shaft, shoving the bolter into the beast's jaws. Before bringing his sickle down on the creature's snout. It twists, dropping the crossbow, and managing to bite down on El’s wrist just further down from the wolf bite that was now scarred over.
El finally finishes the creature with another tearing blow with his sickle. The wound did four damage to El and the injury site grows red, itchy, and hives spring up across the boy's whole arm. El wraps the wound and throws his crossbow over his shoulder before heading back to town.

“What happened to training?” Bandlor shouts. “You were supposed to be my pupil, were you not?”
“I didn’t even know if you were going to show up at all today?” El says through gritted teeth.

“First off, I am not hired to work on this fucking farm. Second of all, what did you do to yourself? You were gone for like four hours and you almost died!”
“I handled it.”
“That's why there’s a giant red bump on your neck where some poison is eating away at you.” Bandlor throws an accusatory hand up.
“It’s an allergic reaction.” El hacks out a cough. “I just need a bath and to sleep it off.”
“Fine. Got some real country bumpkin logic with that. But tomorrow we will train harder.” Bandlor leaves the barn.
El sighs and retires for the night.
