《Not another zombie apocalypse role playing game》Chapter forty three: Death comes in threes

“Slithering and constricting, frail looking cloth binds three of the beasts. They hold their balance as their short but thick tail, and six legs give them unmatched stability.”

‘Huah!’

“It would seem that the muddy ground has served our lackluster group with considerable assistance. Tréjörð swings his living weapon, the wood quivers oddly, as if it were pulsing.”

“I’m attacking, careful!”

“The surrounding ambient mana, previously in chaos, organizes into a spiraling stream. Our hero’s talents have begun to shine as he channels the mana into a sphere.

As it concentrates, it becomes more apparent that our hero favors the water elements. While the sphere still differs in texture, its appearance is that of a ripply ball of water.”

“Bam! Go!”

“Compressed mana flies towards two of the beasts. Being unstable and affected by water affinity, it quickly expands. Impressive if it were intentional.

The results are instantaneous, the immensely heavy six legged beasts, stumble backwards. Their bodies concaved. Their leathery snouts spurting blood in the gallons.”

“Woah.”

‘...’

‘Huah!’

“Three beast still bound, two staggering and traumatized by the explosive power of blunt balls of energy. The last taking on the massive force a hybrid such as Tréjörð can deliver.”

“How long can you hold them?”

‘If I release one, thirty seconds at most!’

“And him?”

‘He’ll be fine!’

‘Ahhhh! For the earth!’

“Tréjörð has put himself between three of the beasts. His bewildering weapon taking root in both the creatures and the ground. Tying himself, the ground and the beast together in what can only be considered lunacy.”

“...”

‘Ji. Attack the one on the far left.’

“The ambient mana is being continuously extracted by our hero. And it would appear he’s quickly learned from his past mistakes. The sphere now purer, smaller and carrying a sense of foreboding.”

“Why isn’t this a spell yet?

Whatever! Go!”

“The beast lifts off the ground briefly and slides in the mud. It twitches and tries to moan, it’s breath completely lost.

One almost feels pity, seeing it’s life withering away, the last moments of agony. What a way to die.”

“...”

‘I can’t hold them much longer! They’re enraged!

What worthy opponents! I am Tréjörð, I’ll remember you in the afterlife, beast!’

“The momentum taken and all presence of danger gone. Our hero breathes with bated breath but still capable of more.”

“Can you pull those together?”

“Poor Tréjörð has been ignored. Left to his battle of strength.”

‘I’ll pull them together. You’ll only have a second or two to attack.’

“No problem.”

“Under her breath. The team’s leader motions her hands and shifts her body. They seem rigid and unnatural. It may not be the best time to mention, but many older spells have unnecessary tradition to them.”

“I. Hmm.”

‘Pa. Gon. Drux. Gal. Bind!’

“Perhaps only we, the initiated can see beyond the mysticism. The cloth shimmers, giving off the clear hue of mana. It gathers two of the bound but unharmed beasts. Dragging them across over the wet soil.”

‘Now!’

“Got it! Go!”

“Yet another simple, yet powerful blast can be seen ravaging these poor defenseless beasts.

Every attack more devastating than the last, the collision is taken head on and the beast are rendered either dead or unconscious.

The blood flowing in such great quantity that the earth turns red.”

‘Þorn! Beorc!’

“Another display of magic enforced through the will of words. Perhaps only a tool for the novice. The aftermath is to clear to see as tree branches grow in rapid succession, piercing thick skin.”

‘Þurisaz!’

“Disgusting.”

‘...’

“The pierce wood enlarges, rupturing the creatures from the inside and out. The avalanche of blood cascades down their eviscerated bodies. A sight to behold. Their only reprieve is a relatively quick death.”

“What? When did gain twenty-eight levels?”

“While the live slowly drains from the remaining beasts, our hero questions the inconsistency in his levels.

While under duress, most will ignore any notification the world directs towards them. This has to do with the lowborn innate dependency on deep sleep.”

“It probably happened when i was training with the orbs then? That’s the only thing that makes sense.”

‘Die!’

“Three of the six creature have been sent to their death. The one in the most pain still endures, occasionally twitching and gurgling through the blood while breathing.”

“I should put it out of its misery.”

‘What do you mean? He will be okay once he rests a bit.’

“What? It’s bleeding out. At best it’ll die a drawn out death.”

‘Are we talking about the same thing?’

“That thing, over there. Bleeding to death.”

‘Oh.’

“Wait a minute. Did you think i was talking about trijarh?”

‘My name is Tréjörð!’

“Sorry, trearth.”

‘...’

‘Come fight me.’

“Okay.”

‘No magic!’

“Then no.”

“With what could be considered the smuggest of smiles our hero plays with spherical concentration of mana. After stabilizing, the energy is easier to control. Perhaps not all is lost, yet.”

‘This can’t be, leader is afraid of fighting?’

‘I just don’t want to. You do it Tréjörð.’

“Let’s put it all the stats in Focus for now.”

“After dividing up the up the dropped crafting items, the party rests. None of them were capable enough to salvage the beast’s remains.”

“So Trierrh. What was that weapon you had? Did you put it into your inventory? Before I knew, it was gone.”

‘That was my seed.’

“Sorry, your seed?”

‘Every member of my tribe is born with two seeds. We nurture them and they nurtures us.’

“You have two seeds?”

‘One is our foundation, the other our future. We, the men share our seed with our future companion.’

“Oh. Okay.”

‘I will only be as strong as my seed. I wish to one day plant it into fertile soil.’

“No, i get it, let’s talk about something else.”

‘Would you like to touch my seed? Ji?’

“I’ve rested long enough, i’m going to scout ahead!”

“In an admirable fashion, our hero braves ahead. Taking on the dangers ahead. Risking everything, so others may live another day.”

“Woah, woah. Is there something out there, Narry?

Narry?

Don’t get shy on me now, Narry.”

“...”

“Damnit. Best be ready.”

“Our hero wields his staff. It is quickly entwined with energy. Brimming, yet contained.”

“Supposedly, I can just use it like a sword. Kind of, It’ll lose a lot of energy with each swing though.

And apparently durability.

But it’s easier to maintain than those spheres.”

“A fierce weapon. Ji’s banana imbued with energy. Ready to plunge into an unexpecting foe.”

“Why are you saying it like that? Something seems off about it.

Stop it and focus.

Tell me if something is hiding. We still got some way to go and I don’t want to slow down too much.”

“The journey is slow but steady. There is no sense of urgency. Wonderful hours of quietude.”

“These creatures are turning out to be a lot easier than I expected.”

“An unexpected way to brag. Our hero continues to amaze. Oh woe. To possess a body perfectly marinated to this world's mana.

It is often said about the lowborn, that they lack time to grow. But with all the nutrients our hero absorbs, even unconsciously. It can said that they may reach potential to reach his betters.”

“Who exactly are these ‘betters’ you talk about? And on that note, what exactly are you, Narry?”

“The daylight burns, his new comrades are now resting while our incessant ball of energy continues to blather to himself.

They sit in meditation after the most recent battle. Three piles of stone creatures avoid of life lie on the ground, similar to their previous dormant nature, only fractured.”

“And they would have stayed dormant if it wasn’t for that freak. Why would he try to lift something so large?

Nevermind. Forget that tree hybrid, I don’t want to talk about him. He’s been trying to get me into a strength contest all day. Lift this, lift that.

That girl still won’t respond with more than a few words.

Also. Why are both their profiles still private? What’s there to hide?”

“In the surroundings, numerous large boulders can be seen. While majority are mere stone, many are similar if not of the species as the stones encountered earlier.”

“There are more of those? Where? They were nice experience. Incredibly easy to take down as well.”

“The previous massacre of these neutral stones was one of brutality. Even the blood stained and ravaged land while battling the earlier herd could not measure up.”

“Noway. Those things just split into smaller rocks. They did seem to leak some kind of liquid but that wasn’t blood right?”

“Their mournful roar still echoes at heart. Stripped limb from limb. Shattered to pieces.

Who are the true beasts here? The heart breaking scene of the last rock standing. It’s listless eyes. That sense of defeat and sorrow, watching its kin crumble.”

“But. uh.

They were just rocks, right? Rock monsters.”

“It would appear our hero’s fellow slaughterers have arisen from their rest, ready to kill anew.”

“You guys fully rest?”

‘Are you an endless source of energy? How do you have so much endurance. Even Tréjörð can’t compete.’

“Oh, now you’re asking questions? How about you start with tell me your name and i’ll tell you how why I’m not tired.”

‘Fine. My name is...’’
