“Digestion? That one seems a bit strange. Not sure about all that mental stuff. I don’t really understand it. Maybe i’ll get some powers?
I’ve still got a few of those buns in my inventory. They gave me twenty additional regeneration, and increased it by fifty percent as well. That was very helpful but not cut off my arm and regrow it helpful.
So, ten points into one specific attribute shouldn’t be too big of an upgrade, right?
Well. I’ve always wanted to be fast. So let’s put it all into-, or do we put into agility and dexterity? Okay, I got it. Four points into each and two into Reflexes.”
“Every step could be his last, every breath his final breath. Every shadow a foe, every sound an announcement of the impending doom.”
“The hallway to the right is turning out to be a lot darker. I wonder where the electricity is coming from, there must be one amazing generator that kept me alive all this time.
Looks like the electricity is barely holding on. It’s probably failing, most likely the reason I was taken out of cryostasis, some sort of failsafe.
Most amazing is that the lights even work. Probably L.E.D’s?
What a long-ass hallway. There are occasional lights that come on by themselves, nothing magical, just sensors that haven’t been activated for what is probably centuries.”
“Three paths are laid before our protagonist. Will he climb the flight of stairs, towards the surface? Will he climb up the broken elevator shaft? Or will he explore the rooms on this level?”
“Climb up the broken elevator shaft? Do I looked bored to you? Why would anyone pick that option?”
“Will our hero explore the rooms and heroically clear another hidden mission? Will he find the hidden floor accessible only through the vents located in the broken down elevator shaft? Or will he take the stairs that lead to a dead end? Stay with us to find out.”

Who is us? Of course I’m not going to go up the stairs now.
Hmm.
Hidden mission seems pretty good. A lot better value than just leveling. I mean I got one to every attribute last time. There are so many of them. I counted nineteen but a lot were blurred out.
There are a few brittle looking sofas and chairs lying around. A few tables and a small kitchen. I’m guessing there were some people stationed here and this was the place to sit down and relax.
A giant tv-screen is hanging a bit slanted in front of some couches and a fairly large table.
To the left there are two doors, to the right are another two doors. And upfront is another door that is clearly the elevator door.”
Maintenance
“That’s got to be where the power generator is. Let’s check it out.”
“With a weapon in hand our fragile main character pokes the door to what could be considered an ancient burial ground. Nothing good comes from provoking the dead.”
“I didn't ask anyone to be buried down here with me. And stop calling me fragile or feeble. I’m a strong independent man.
The door makes a screeching sound that makes my skin crawl. Man, now I’ve got goosebumps.
Hello?”
“The droning of an ancient evil reverberates through the room. Something has awoken.”
Shush! I’m concentrating. I’m going to push the door all the way. Definitely not going in there though.
“A soul tearing sound erupts from the entrance of the vile creature’s lair, perhaps this was a trap all along? An ancient device used to alert the vile and vicious?”
“The door is just rusted, what are you talking about?
Ah. Shit. That definitely did alert everything in here. I can hear them shuffle about in the other rooms. The doors will probably keep them at bay, right?”
“Our hero has now encountered yet another danger, his naive and reckless actions have provoked the legion of the undying. How will he ever battle that which feels no pain? Feels no exhaustion? Never sleeps and always hungers? Tremble with me, for this could be his last”
Eh? You’re scaring me a bit here. Did I really provoke a legion of these things? How many could there be around here?
“The droning intensifies, they have caught his scent. Will this be a case of fight or flight? Stay with me to find out, right after these messages.”
Am I on television or something? Who exactly are you talking to?
Oh shi- It’s coming!
Damnit. It’s another slow moving zombie. It’s literally crawling towards me with only one hand. And somehow using its chin to gain some momentum. Do I have to lie down on the ground to make this an even fight? I feel cheated.
Hehe. Let’s not complain about easy wins.
“With extreme precision and power our hero shatters the undead head, a remarkable achievement. Completely unexpected. One can’t help but feel awe and amazement.”
Your level has increased to three!

You have started a hidden mission
|Underground lair and their ilk|
Clear out all the undying creatures lurking in the underground lair.
“They are not all going to be like this, right? I wonder if they have just been withering away for so long or if zombies really are so useless.
The corpse dematerialized like the other one. It left behind a single tooth. “
|Tooth|
Crafting materials. Can be used for various crafting professions.
“When do I get to explore these crafting professions? Also what could I possibly do with a tooth? Will I get to learn magic or something? Hmm. Alchemy? Witchery? Magicinery?”
“One fight ends, another begins. The relentless undying have made their way passed their century long prison and rush towards the unsuspecting protagonist.”
“Hahaha. Not so unsuspecting anymore. Where are they?
Ah. The door across the room is halfway open and there are the two villains, making their way towards me.
Hehe. Even with the atmosphere being very serious, it’s becoming very hard to take this seriously.”
“How extraordinary! With what could be described as precognitive abilities our hero has noticed the two assailants that were sneaking up on him.”
“… “
“Awe-inspiring decisiveness, not a shred of hesitation flashed passed our protagonist eyes as he rushed towards the undying. Even the most experienced of fighters would have a hard time keeping up with the incredible agility he displays!”
“This is light jogging, what incredible agility”.
“Two versus one. I shiver at the thought. How will our hero ever overcome these odds? Stay with us for more!”
“Well, this was easy.”
Your level has increased to four!
You have met the experience cap. You gain no further experience for this enemy.
You can distribute ten attribute points as you like.
Your level has increased to five!

You can distribute ten attribute points as you like.
“Easy enough. Didn’t get any message that the mission got finished though.”
“An eerie silence lingers in the air, a sign of the danger to come? Will the sudden calm lure our hero into a false sense of security? He certainly looks naïve and simple enough.”
“Pft, simple? Me? I’ll have you know that I got an average score in an IQ test. After only three tries!
Hmm. Two more undead skins, let’s just pocket these real quick.
I´m going to see if the room is clear, there have to be one or two more of these bad boys lurking around.”
“Public service announcement. Hoarding can be a serious mental issue, there are help lines you can call to get help. Many people suffer from hoarding. Get help today!”
“Hoarding? This is hardly hoarding. Also there has to be some clothing around. No actually, if no one has been here for centuries. Eh, would any clothing even survive for that long?
I feel extremely vulnerable down there. It’s just dangling freely, as if it was bait. This has to be dealt with.”
“The last of the undying waits silently in the mysterious ‘maintenance’ room. Patiently waiting for the opportunity to strike. A deadly assassin.”
“I don’t believe for a second that these things are deciding to anything. They are more likely just acting on instinct. Let’s make some noise and lure it out.”
“A mind shattering noise erupts as the hero pulls the ancient door back and forth. A true idiot, this must be his first encounter with a door.”
*hrrrrrr*
“Ladies and gentlemen, gods and devils, friends and foes! I don’t believe it! Out of sheer irritation the undead has started making its move, no longer could it suffer the ear piercing wails of the door. It makes its way towards our protagonist, catching him completely off guard!”
“Oh shit. This one can actually stand, and walk! Let’s be careful here.”
“The vile beast bends its knees and leaps forward. But our hero is too fast, too quick, too agile! He manages to evade the undying creature’s grasp expertly. How quick on his feet is he!?”
“No. no, no, no. I didn’t dodge anything there. Now you’re just lying. It fell over and I didn’t even move. Its legs seem to have fallen apart when it started moving.
These things are so decrepit that they can’t support their own weight. This is probably why they have been crawling on the ground.”
“He’s done it again! He cleared out the entire area alone, one man versus four ferocious undying foes. What an exciting event. Stay tuned for more!”
Your level has increased to six!
You have met the experience cap. You gain no further experience for this enemy.
All attributes have increased by one for clearing a hidden mission.
You can distribute ten attribute points as you like.
“Hahaha. This is way too easy. I think I’m somehow cheating or something. Also, I level up for every enemy I kill? Bit overpowered isn’t it?
Hmmm. Let’s put ten points into dexterity, reflexes and agility. And ten into intelligence.
Hm. I don’t feel faster or more agile. Am I thinking faster now? Hello? Eh?”
“The blank look of self-satisfaction is plastered over our protagonist face, another clear case of narcissism. For some, it makes it harder to like him, for others I may been an endearing quality. Hopefully his character will develop further in the near future.”
“Do we have a problem, narrator? I feel like you need a beating.”
“Ah, how sad. The mindless ravings of person near the ends of his rope. Has he fallen into lunacy? We can only hope for his well-being.”

Humanity's End
Given a year to prepare by the mysterious ‘system’ for contact with the wider galaxy, humanity must work to ensure the Earth’s defense is ready to meet any challenge. Sadly, most of the world seems dedicated to tearing itself apart as the year-end deadline gets closer. The west is in barely contained Chaos, while the east descends into internal conflict and war. The Pillar Forts, one of the few successful projects of the United Nations headed by the United States, stand ready to defend humanity against any invasion that may come through the strange Connection Pillars that appeared on each continent. Massive steel and stone walls that surround the Connection Pillars. They are filled with deadly men and women trained in all manner of warfare, each trained in the newly acquired System with skills and magical abilities that they put to deadly purpose. Beside these brave warriors, tanks, helicopters, artillery and more stand ready to defend humanity at each of these powerful installations. But, can they overcome the disparity in levels and experience between themselves and the forces that threaten them and the rest of humanity? Main Characters Jessica Brown- A young African American girl. Her 18th birthday in Detroit was the same day the systems message appeared. She discovered she was Level 7, much higher than most of the rest of the world. Why she is blessed, or cursed, with the power she doesn’t know. But what she does know is that she rather likes the feeling that comes with manipulating magic. The week after her birthday, government workers started testing every person in the US in a massive census effort of skills and abilities. Jessica Brown found herself conscripted into the US Magical Corp, a new branch of the US Military, and shipped off to a Pillar Fort. Somewhere hot and muggy in her ancestors’ home of Africa. As she grows stronger, she finds she has some connection to the pillars. While everyone else sees beauty or danger when they look at the pillars, after connection is made all Jessica can see is a Tree. A tree the size of the entire universe. Isaka Smith - is a third generation American and farmer who just wants to be left alone. But she is dragged into the situation by events beyond her control. When people in her small town had to deal with rioters and looters after the system announcement, she rallied them to defend themselves, earning her a trait that the government found extraordinarily useful. After a visit to a local reservation, she finds herself conscripted to lead one of the many small support towns erected around the great pillar forts. Not near her old home, but in far-flung Africa. John McIntire, the “Fighting Bull” -The commander of the African Fort, but because of circumstances beyond his ability to contend with shortly after taking command after being re-activated from retirement, he finds communication with his chain of command increasingly difficult. The US government, hell, even the United Nations, seems to have fallen into complete and utter chaos. The African Union is embroiled in a bitter civil war just outside his door, and supposedly, most of the world governments are in similar situations. Meanwhile, John must do his best to be ready to facilitate diplomacy, or to match the hostile argument of whatever force might come through the pillar of light when the year timer finishes counting down. Can our heros defend Earth from outside threats, while it tares itself apart? Or will they need to rebuild from the ground up? DEDICATION: This story is dedicated to my father who passed away recently. Jim Holloway, you’ll be missed you old silverback gorilla. Love you dad. Always have, always will.
