《Skeleton》Bones (2)

"The easiest of undead to raise is the skeleton, however, if one wishes to raise, say a corpse-man, they not only need good bones but good flesh. Organs, of course, are optional however the more organs, and of course higher quality, it can make your ordinary corpse-man into a higher class undead. For example, with a good brain a basic corpse-man has the potential of eventually gaining magic enabling a lich as a possible evolutionary track, or another prime example is good muscle enabling a death knight. Of course a skeleton too can become a death knight, however, it is well known the corpse-man version is far superior in strength and value. However the most valuable organ in my opinion, is the heart. Nothing is worse than a corpse that can understand its foes emotions and toy with them."

- Adzulamna, 3rd disciple of the Black Lord of the West, Axus Dur Gonavez to his own disciples

The very essence of the curse these skeletons are a part of is to not let the world forget its history. Legend holds this curse was made by the leader of the gods Olgarth the Wise Sage, lord of magic and wisdom. Only the greatest battles are subject to this curse, however the souls of the departed are not affected, merely the empty corpses left behind which this makes all the more remarkable that this skeleton is able to move under its own power, yet it would remain trapped of course as previously stated without some sort of external stimulus.

Thus is what happened here, whether, by the power of a divine, or just natural occurrence, the plains erupted into fire and destruction. The lone skeleton had no reaction, it had no notion of danger and death, and thus watched the ground rumble and great pillars of flame take life. The black orbs in its skull watched mindlessly towards this land shaping event, unaware that the bones under the earth of its comrades and foes turning to mere ash and dust. The ground beneath its bones erupted upward, launching the skeleton into the heavens, and above the clouds, the light of the sun casting a lank shadow of its bleach white bones. It stared at the heavens it was surrounded by, the white endless expanse and a vast sky, and before it plummeted back down to the earth, it reached out as if to grasp this moment for eternity. Suddenly, just as it began to fall back down with winds howling, and ripping around its body as its descent garnered further speed, the blackened orbs began flickering as its magical seal that held its existence began wavering from the pressure of the descent. It had seen something.

As it was a skeleton it couldn't explain or put together exactly what it saw, nor would it know. As the creature landed, a mark on its left shoulder glowed faintly, and a large boom resounded on a distant mountain side.

Birds scramble into flight, beasts that carved fear into the fearless fled, the mountain soon became void of creatures from the shock wave. For miles the thundering crack was heard, the closet human settlement was almost a thousand miles away, and was also across an ocean, but even they could hear it, if only very faint.

A smoldering crater crackled with flame halfway up this giant mass of stone, forest, and dirt. From this crater now stood a lone skeleton with a faint blue glow upon its shoulder. It looked at its new surroundings, immediately trying to find its way back to its battlefield, however it possessed now way to know where to go. Of course being a skeleton, outside of its battlefield it had no sense of 'place'. It did not recognize it was on a mountainous forest, nor it was in a massive charred crater, all it understood was this wasn't the place it was at before. The blue glow faded, and in its place was a strange marking, it looked reminiscent of a sword and shield however since this skeleton had no sense of self either, it held nothing to it and was simply ignored as it did its surroundings. Thus the skeleton simply sat in this giant crater of debris and flame, staring up at the sun that was now beginning to set, bringing the moon to make it rise once more, as it always will.
