《Modern Deity》Chapter 3: Going Outside

--The next day--
After doing the breathing technique once again, Kyte reached the High Novice stage. He was very excited and Sol'keer was astonished at his quick progress. However, only the first few times allow Kyte to gain the most energy, so he knows that his progress will definitely slow down. Especially in the higher stages, it will take much, much longer than just a day to improve by three stages.
Walking in his backyard to get some sun, Kyte was talking with Sol'keer.
"Alright kid, you really surprised me. I didn't expect you to be such a good match for the Bloodrage technique."
"Heh, so what? Besides, the first few times are fast like this anyway. Those medicines and pills in the necklace will definitely be of help."
"Don't forget, if you take too many pills at once, you can damage your body. Just like how absorbing too much energy without letting your body adjust to the energy will damage it."
"Yea yea, whatever."
"Once you reach the Knight stage, you'll be able to absorb your first amount of life force. This will greatly improve your overall power. Besides, you don't have to absorb life force just from humans."
"Hmm, so just regular birds and other common animals will suffice?"
"Of course. Anything with blood will be your prey. But, humans will naturally give more life force, even if they don't have more blood than bigger animals like bears and the like."
"Why is that?"
"Even I don't know. Maybe it's because you're human too? I never figured it out."
"So what's the first fighting skill I can use like?"
"Don't worry about it until you unlock it."
"Come on, the Inheritance won't give me any information on it. What's it like?"
"You'll know when you get there."
"You....stupid old man."
"Heh, even if you do improve fast in your cultivation, that doesn't mean you'll be good at fighting skills right?"
"What do you know? I've never even tried to do any fighting techniques in my whole life. Plus, the skills from your world are different from the ones in this world. You can't compare the two."
"Yea, just keep being confident. I'm going to laugh in your face when it takes you a year to just complete the first skill!"

"You won't be here for another five weeks or so though."
".....Well, that's true."
"Ahaha, sorry."
"What are you apologizing for? If you feel like you need to, then just walk around outside. I haven't really seen the outside of this world."
"Alright, I'll do that. I have nothing better to do yet so I might as well take you around. But, won't people see you?"
"Don't worry about that. My power is so weak right now that I can't even manifest myself anymore."
"Oh, I see. Well then, let's get going."
After leaving his house, Kyte walked around outside for a while. He passed by a public park where he saw several children playing with the park equipment. Their innocent laughter rang out into the surroundings while their parents created several conversations with one another. Kyte silently watched the children play without a care of the world as he walked past. He wondered if he would ever have children of his own, but after realizing what he thought, Kyte immediately cast it away.
After that he went to several grocery stores, occasionally picking out a snack to take with him. He walked along the major intersections that had gas stations near them, and he walked even further to reach a movie theater. Many people were waiting in line, and some were walking in and out of the building.
While Kyte was walking on a sidewalk to go to an ice cream store, Sol'keer said:
"Look at these people, completely oblivious to the great technology their government is hiding from them."
"You making fun of them? Heh, I was like that a day ago as well. And, it's not only technology of this world. It's the fact that other worlds exist too."
"Yea, and in them are godly beings that far surpassed even me. It's a good thing this world doesn't have any of those guys, otherwise...this planet would be a barren place."
Kyte, a little surprised and confused at Sol'keer's words, just silently continued forward to enter the ice cream shop. There were several people inside, all enjoying their cold treats with their friends or family members.
The line to buy ice cream was actually quite long, so Kyte asked:
"Sol'keer, do you remember your family?"

"...What kind of question is that?"
"Oh, uh...you know...I was just curious.."
"Haaa, of course I do. Even if I wasn't the family genius, they didn't treat me badly. In fact, all the great geniuses died in battle, and I ended up as the strongest in my generation. Although one or two in a younger generation did surpass me, I had greater experience. If only I had a bit more innate talent, I probably would've survived that ambush."
"You said your family was wealthy right? How much do you imply?"
"Oh, my family was one of the richest on my home planet. My family was part of the Big Five, and we were the third most powerful out of the five families. If I had even a little bit less talent, I probably would've been bullied. Thankfully I wasn't the weakest in my generation."
"You have quite some luck, don't you."
"It's quite ironic actually. I didn't have much talent, but I had large amounts of luck on my side. I only survived some situations due to miracles that only have less than a one percent chance of happening. And that happened several times."
"Hahaha, you're gonna have to tell me them sometimes."
"Yea, I guess that would fine. And, well, I guess my luck ran out when I was ambushed."
It was finally Kyte's turn to buy ice cream, and when he saw the cashier...
"...Kyte?"
"O-ohhh, Eli. I would like to buy-"
"Dude, what happened to you man? You suddenly stopped hanging out with us. Sarah missed you a lot when you stopped."
"Eli, look...I just want to buy some ice cream...ahaha..ha."
"...Right. Well, what do you want?"
"A large cup, mint and chocolate ice cream."
After buying the ice cream, Kyte quickly left the shop and began to walk home. However, when he rounded the corner around the shop, he saw a familiar face get out of a car.
It's Asshole.
Wanting to beat him to a pulp, Kyte started to speed up toward Asshole but Sol'keer quickly said:
"Wait! Get back, you don't want to do anything yet."
"What the fuck do you mean, he's right there!"
"You're only at the high Novice stage! Wait until you reach the Knight stage until you do anything. Plus, once you reach the Knight stage, you will get other skills along with the Bloodrage skill."
Kyte quickly turned around and walked home.
"What do you mean, 'other skills'?"
"You may not know, but there are many, many other skills aside from the Bloodrage skills. You don't know about them because you haven't unlocked them yet."
"What kind of skills are these?"
"The first ones are from my family. Skills that pertain to fighting are everywhere inside the Inheritance."
"Why didn't you tell me?"
"You would've found out anyway. Besides, I didn't know you were going to try to attack that guy the first time you saw him."
"He deserves to be killed."
"Heh, that's the spirit. Don't have mercy when you're fighting. However, it's still a good thing to keep you morality. Just as long as you don't lose yourself in the slaughter, you'll do fine."
Kyte hurried home while eating his ice cream, which quickly melted due to the heat outside.
I have to hurry and get to Knight stage so I can train in the new skills. I'm gonna be the most powerful being on this planet!
As Kyte quietly motivated himself, Sol'keer gave a satisfied smile. He didn't know if his legacy would be able to be successfully passed down onto younger generations by Kyte, but he was Sol'keer's only choice.

-Inside An Apartment-
"Hey, Akina, have you found out who the new guy is?"
"Yea, tell us! We're really curious!!"
Three young teens were asking the same question over and over as a single woman was sitting on a couch. On either side of her was an older looking male and a young female who looked to be an early college student.
"Quiet down you guys! I can't think when all of you are blabbering on and on."
The woman in the middle, Akina, quietly sighed and she relaxed in the soft couch.
"Don't worry, I know exactly who he is. The only hard part is finding a reason to meet with him. He's always up in his house all the time, there's never any chances to meet with the kid. Since there's only two days left until graduation, he doesn't even need to go to school."
Akina lifted her right hand and looked at what she was holding.
In her hand was a picture of Kyte.

If you have never read that I highly recommend it, and if you have read it and enjoyed that story then I hope you'll enjoy mine as well. This is the first story I'm ever putting out for public consumption so reader beware on that. Any constructive criticism is always appreciated, simply leaving a half star review tells me that you're a moron who doesn't know how to use words. I'm constantly trying to improve my writing and feedback and criticism on what works and what doesn't is the only way to do that at the point I feel I am at. Last, I just marked all the content warnings because you never know where a story will take you and I don't want to exclude anything (though there will never be a harem). I am going to release 1-2 chapters per week on Fridays. Thanks and enjoy.
