《Hero Delivery》chapter 22

In a place between worlds, outside a large purple planet, two entities are arguing over a delivery.
“Take the soul.” The man says angrily.
“No, I didn't order this.” The god refused indignantly at having to deal with this man.
“One of your gods did.” The man countered.
The god's voice rose in anger at this man who dares question him, “I am the only god this world has, and I did not request a hero.”
The man stops for a minute seeing the genuine anger on the god's face and pulls out his clipboard thinking he might have made a mistake. Looking over the information he found that this was indeed the planet and that the god had already used a significant amount of power to get a hero. “Not what the paperwork says.”
The god waved the man’s comments away, “I don't care. Take them to another world or send it back.”
“We both know it doesn't work like that.” The man said angrily, adding “You will take this hero.”
The god’s eyes narrowed his voice becoming icy, “We don't need another hero.”
“Another?” The man froze confused, he hadn’t brought a hero here before, maybe he means a champion or something.
“Take the hero away. I don't have the power to bless another.” The god tried to give a reason, but still felt violence about ready to happen.
“She will be delivered. The deal was already struck and neither of us can stop this.” The man said feeling the tension growing thicker.
“Not with me.”
“Well some god did.”
“I said I was the only god of this world. So no one else could have done the deal. I'm tired of this.” The god moved his hand shattering the place between.

The entire place cracked shattering from a wave of power thrown at the man. Only to stop healing all the newly formed cracks as though it never happened.
“Sorry, but it will be delivered.”The man reached out with his own power ripping open a door to the god's world. A sliver of light let through a beautiful little meadow, not too far from a city but just the right amount of distance for one to realize they were no longer on earth.
“No.” The god declared slamming the opening closed, knocking the man back. The man flew through the air landing hard into a roll, quickly popping back up. “Ow, that hurt.”
The god said nothing, he just kept throwing magic, to stop the man from delivering the unwanted hero. Blades of chaotic wind flew towards the man to tear him asunder.
The man looked up narrowing his eyes, as he began to step between each blade, walking as though through a calm day. The blades pass around him.
The man pulled from the primordial chaos shaping it and throwing it over the god. Blinding him. The man used this opportunity to open the rift once more, but was finding it harder now that the god had given his command against it. The god ripped the cloak of chaos away, infuriated by the man. The god was already in shock by the man's power but he was in his domain how could this creature overpower him?
The god began to reach out to his entire domain to banish the man out of his world back to his own. When the god felt something on his leg a tiny little hand, the man looked down only to find a child
A little boy stood staring at the delivery man who was still trying to open a rift to the world. The man caught the appearance of the boy stopped letting the rift close staring at the little boy.

“Please stop.” The boy said.
“Who are you.” The god asked shocked at finding a child in his domain, and even more surprised at the power coming off him.
The boy tilted his head thinking, “I'm a god...I think.”
“A newborn god?” The delivery man said in awe. He had never seen one form like this, and with such power.
“No just sleeping.” The boy corrected
The big god stared down knowing this child was much stronger than him. He heard the boy's words, and suddenly understood who this child was, "You created this world?"
“Did you not know?” The man asked surprised looking between the two gods.
“I thought it was natural when I formed.” The older god explained, then remembered what the man was here for and asked the child, “Why did you summon another hero?”
“He will not be sufficient, already the taint spreads.” The child said tiredly.
The good looked down even more confused, thinking about his hero, “But he's pushing them back.”
“Yes, but that's just one spot. He is only focusing on himself and letting the world fend for himself. Even if he kills the leader there won't be anyone left to fight the small ones.” The child explained.
“But…but” The god stuttered
“We need another who can elevate them.” The child turned back to the man.
“But I can do that with messages, to my priests.” The god tried to reach for some reason not to take another hero.
“No, it needs to be different. Divine messages get twisted quickly. We need an entire perspective shift.”
——
In a place between, in the cabin of a truck a man finishes his delivery and enters the cabin. The woman sitting in the passenger seat watched the whole thing and sat dumbstruck at the entire encounter.
“What was that?” The man asked dumbfounding the girl even more.
‘How was she supposed to know.’ She responded, “I have no idea. Has that ever happened before?”
The man shook his head, “I don't think so. I can't believe the world had a sleeping god.”
“I take it that's rare?”
“Yeah, so rare that I've only heard of it.” The man admitted still looking out toward the place he had just had an altercation with two gods.
The woman was amused but didn’t understand what a sleeping god was, “Why do they sleep?”
“Supposedly, sleeping gods want their worlds to evolve on their own. So they set the world up for life than sleep waiting.” The man said, even to his ears it sounded far-fetched.
“Then why was there a different go?”
“I think he came about through a collective idea fueled by mana, or a concept the world began to lean on, or just popped from the chaos or worshiped into existence.
“Half of those sound fake.”
“Hey, it's how gods are born.” The man explained putting on his seatbelt and starting up the truck.
“Weird,” The woman said putting on her seatbelt.
The man gave the woman a strange smile “Yeah.”

Demons Don't Lie
Algier, average human and recent convict, has committed the gravest sin of all: demon slaying. His fate? To participate in the Culling, a battle-royale style tournament that’s televised live to the world, where all the worst criminals go to die. As with all tournaments, a prize is on the line. If Algier survives, he can have any wish granted by the Marquises, the new rulers of Earth following the demons’ invasion. However, there’s little hope for survival in a tournament designed to have demons do the work of the executioner, especially for a human. Demons are stronger, faster, wiser, and more talented than the average human, and, despite his crime, Algier is no demon hunter. Mentally defeated before the tournament even begins, Algier is torn between becoming another demon’s points and fighting on in his dead mother’s legacy. But should he choose to fight, there is one advantage that Algier has that can tip the odds in his favour: Demons don’t lie, but humans can. How to read this story Demons Don't Lie is written from the perspective of an unreliable (lying) narrator. There are many inconsistencies within the story which are placed there intentionally. It's up to the reader to decide what is the truth and what is the lie. Promotion Full quality cover image
