Zach's understanding of his "flipping" condition:

At some point each night while he’s asleep, he flips to the other world.

If he doesn’t sleep one night, it kicks in instantly the next time he sleeps.

Every non-living thing attached to him leaves the world too.

Only his body makes the jump all the way, with his other stuff held in limbo.

If he’s attached to another person when the flip would happen, the flip is fully canceled for the night.

Zach guessed that this is because it can’t pull another person with him, so it gives up.
