《The Other Side of the Bed - Half-Stuck in a Fantasy World》6. Maid Intel

At the center of the walled city stood a massive castle of grey and red stone that towered above the residential buildings around it. The sprawling structure was the workplace of over 500 civilians who in turn served the populace as clerks, diplomats, and other government officials. Perhaps more importantly, it also housed the royal family and all of their personal staff.
On the west side of the castle, the tallest tower overlooked the wealthy Red River district below. Due to its height, the tower was never shaded by the Gwendolyn Wall and it had the best view of the sunset in the entire kingdom.
In the room at the top of that tower, a young woman watched the sunset with a bored expression. She was sprawled across a bed of the finest silk that money could buy, imported at great expense from distant lands, and she was hugging a tasseled pillow to her chest. Contrasting with her elaborate bed, she wore simple seafoam green pajamas and no socks. She had long brown hair that shone beautifully in the sunlight, but it was currently tied back into a simple high ponytail.
"I'm bored, Beebee," the woman said, not taking her light blue eyes from the vibrant orange sky. She had pale skin and a narrow, elegant face with high cheekbones and thin eyebrows. She was perhaps eighteen years old, but she had a rare kind of nobility that made normal aging clues unreliable.
"I apologize, Your Highness, but Beebee isn't here," said a woman standing at attention by the room's stout wooden door. "She was summoned to the dining hall to help with dinner preparations."
That woman had striking shoulder length strawberry blonde hair, green eyes, and fair, freckled skin. She wore a stern expression just one step from a scowl, and she was dressed in a floor length black dress with white lace trim. The white apron that covered the front made it clear that she was a maid of some sort.

"Then can you go find me something fun to do, Bethany?" the Princess asked, casting a hopeful glance at the maid.
Bethany shook her head. "You know I can't leave you unattended. I'm sure if you just wait a bit longer, we will be called to dinner. Your father is back from his trip and would love to see you there."
The Princess rolled back onto her stomach and kicked her legs feebly. "Fine," she whined, tugging on the bedspread in frustration at being cooped up. For someone that appeared to be at least eighteen, she wasn't acting it.
Two short knocks came from the door, then it was opened from the outside. Bethany stepped clear and stood up very straight, as if expecting an authority figure.
Instead, a woman in gritty peasant's clothes stepped inside and closed the door behind herself. She looked like any regular villager that could be found walking on the street or traveling the dirt roads outside the city.
"At ease, Bethany," the new arrival said. She had hair the color of straw, currently parted in the middle and pinned back over her ears. Her eyes were a deep brown and had a piercing look to them. She had a narrow jaw like the Princess but her cheeks were less prominent, giving a very slim appearance. Notably, she was also about two inches taller than Bethany and the Princess.
Then the new woman turned to address the Princess. "Princess Evelyn, I have interesting news for you."
"Please, just Evy is fine."
"Very well, Princess Evy," the woman said.
Evelyn sighed and muttered, "I meant to drop the 'Princess' part…" Then she shook her head and smiled at her head maid. "What's this news, Alexia?"
"Rumors from the city. I haven't been able to verify any of this myself, but I heard word of a very strange man in town of late. He's dressed like a peasant but carries himself like a merchant or mage, and he seems to possess a lot of money. He has short brown hair in an odd spiked style, and hazel eyes."

She took a breath, then continued, "Another informant spoke of a man, likely the same one by the physical description, telling a wild story of a world with no magic, and with devices beyond even those of the Kobolds."
The Princess sat up abruptly. Her eyes were alight with interest, making her stunningly beautiful. "Tell me more," she said eagerly.
Alexia shook her head. "There is no more. That's all I've heard. Most likely, the man just arrived in town today."
Princess Evelyn jumped to her feet and grabbed Alexia's hands in hers. Alexia seemed a little uncomfortable with the closeness, but unsurprised at the Princess's behavior.
Evelyn forcefully said, "Then find out more. Follow him yourself if needed." Then the fire in her eyes calmed a little and she added, "But please stay safe, Alexia."

Path of Righteousness
What do you desire? What are you afraid of? You run away from one, pursuing the other. Is that all you are? Conquer your fears. Dig to the bottom and confirm, what you really want... ...For you cannot escape suffering and death. You only have a little time. Use it wisely. Uru, a young boy with no talent for magic or fighting, sets out on a quest to become an avatar of order, the physical embodiment of righteousness, in a distant future, where control of origin energy allows people to defy physics and manipulate causality. Mocked by fate and broken by impossible dreams, all that's left is to stand in defiance to cruel existence. Because there is a Truth out there, somewhere. Singular, transcendent, eternal. What would you sacrifice for it? *** This is a fantastic sci-fi epic. It's going to blend both western and eastern traditional fantasy tropes – like might & magic and cultivation – with rational sci-fi grounded fully in reality, to produce a purely fictional fairy tale. I'd like to deliver something light-hearted and yet wholly serious. An uplifting adventure exploring the unfathomable reaches of humanity, free of indecency, with a healthy dose of humorous banter, legendary beings, and most importantly – lots of exciting, firework-filled mayhem! I've tried reading many web novels, but there's a fundamental problem with them – the eastern ones are annoyingly repetitive, superficial and morally destitute, while western ones are often dark, convoluted and profane. There's only so much one can do to filter out the bad and try to fill in the gaps with their own imagination. It's one thing to eat tasty fast food, but if it's moldy and filled with toxins, then it's not only poisonous, but also disgusting. The appreciation of beauty and higher values is disappearing at an alarming rate. Although there are throngs of talented people out there, none of them are creating what I want to witness – an inspiring battle against impossible odds, ending in absolute victory. A triumph of the spirit so overwhelming, it crushes the spectator into his seat and takes his breath away. I'm looking for a real paragon, so now I'd like to try conceiving one. *** The MC's name comes from Tolkien's Elven dictionary in Silmarillion, 'Uru' meaning 'Fire', and 'Dagnir an Uruloki' meaning 'Slayer of Dragons'. *** Note: I'm neither a native speaker, nor an aficionado of literature – I've never written anything before, and despite proficient English my literary prowess is abysmal. It therefore takes me a painful amount of effort to polish the chapters and bring them up to par. Last year I wrote and posted some on FictionPress, but I stopped since it wasn't going anywhere. The appalling amount of filth and mediocrity being peddled in all the media nowadays – a result of no conspiracy to manipulate the masses, but plain supply and demand – is no longer just the triumph of form over substance, but most worryingly corruption of the latter. Who wants to read about ideals anymore? And yet, masses flock together to gobble up perversion and depravity. That being said, I can't rule out pitiful exposure as the culprit to my failure, so I am now once again trying to increase it here, possibly for the last time. If there are still human beings present, hungry or in need of a detox after eating too much garbage, make yourselves heard, so I can see a reason to continue the story. Otherwise it's pointless – I'm not going to make fodder for the masses, and I'm most certainly not going to throw pearls before swine. I'll simply stop writing altogether.

Neophyte: Common Route
A story about self-discovery, interpersonal relationships, magic and magical creatures-- and a silent war. Marsha is about seven years past adulthood and still feels like a scared child in her parents' home. This is exacerbated when she discovers her father has apparently keyed up his destructive, sadistic habits-- leading to a mad dash out of the house with precious cargo in tow and only one idea where to go. This begins her journey, leading to a discovery that will change her life forever. And she never wants to go back. (Warnings: Lots of descriptions of abusive, sadistic and otherwise traumatizing and triggering behavior that a parent perpetuated toward a child or multiple children. Descriptions of violence, a main character with emotional issues that will be dealt with, and a whole lot of the 'aftermath' of battles in a war. Even a few descriptions of some of those battles. Things of that nature. If you can't handle one of those, please do not read.) {I had this idea to write a 'common route' and then 'romance routes' like they do in otomes? Book 1 is the common route, and then at book 2, you choose your love interest. Each of which is encased in their own book.}

Rebirth, but not quite.
A boy is born in a fantasy world with knowledge of modern earth, however he does not have personal memories of living or dying before. Good news is he was born in militaristic branch of the royal family and the variety of forms and uses of magic in this world are great fun, bad news is with status come expectations. Follow him as he makes his place in the world all the while escaping boredom with all his might. This is a story without a big baddie trying to destroy the world, without gods choosing heroes to give powers to and without systems that determine what you can and can't do. This is my first fiction and i'm open to suggestions. I plan on using a few cliches while putting my own spin on things, if i write something that feels too much like every other fictions, please say so.
