《Heretic King》Chapter 1: And there was Light.

The sky began to darken as I begin my return from Harvey's DIY.
"Shit" I knew I should have brought an umbrella with me.
The weather has never been good in Ireland but it never changes this sporadically. I begin to jog with my new tools I got to fix my door after my roommate sent it off it's hinges in a drunken stupor last night. He'll probably still be passed out now. I chuckle thanking my lucky stars I was never one for alcohol. Although we Irish are famous drinkers I never really could handle my liquor.
While I was thinking that a loud thunderclap echoed behind me, afterwards I hear a growl that put my stomach to shame. Curious I look behind me.
I freeze.
Behind me I see a black mist rising from the grate next to the path as it slowly forms into the shape of a grotesque midget with an elongated nose and sharp pointed ears. The creature which I can only assume is a Goblin wore only a very worn loincloth and carried a thick club.
I stand there frozen thinking whether this is really happening. 'Did Connor slip something into my coffee before he passed out?' I can only speculate for a moment before the thing is charging at me screeching like a banshee.
I panic thinking of what to do, thinking of how I could fight it off. It quickly shortens the distance between us as we weren't far apart in the first place. Soon it is just 2 meters away. I struggle thinking of what to do. In the heat of he moment I let out two quick jabs which knocks the beast back. I take the opportunity while it's dazed to grab the screwdriver I just bought as I pierce for it's face. Luckily or unluckily the Goblin recovers at that moment and lifts it head up which causes my pierce to land on it's throat.

The goblin begins to gurgle blood as it tries to screech. As it loses blood it goes down on it's knees before I see life fade from it's eyes and collapses.
My mind blanks. I think of what just happened. 'No way, no fucking way! This is just a bad dream! Yeah that's it! I'll wake up to hear Connor banging around with a hangover and I can just laugh this off! Hahahaha!'
Before I can go further with my delusions, a box appears before me.
"Humans, I have grown tired of your cycle of insanity, of your wars, of your corruption of the fair Earth I created. If I had not intervened this land would have been destroyed and uninhabitable in no more than a century. Remember when you are cursing me Humans, This has been brought upon by you and your ancestors. Now you may hopefully see the light."
And then there was light.

Shadowrun: Blake Island School of Magic
It's a high tech, low life. It's the Seattle Metroplex in 2074. It rises like a steel and concrete cancer out of the earth. Poverty is rampant, corruption is everywhere, crime is out of control, corporations basically control everything, the old United States is fractured, magic has come back and now it turns out that humanity has been joined by elves, dwarves, orks and trolls. The old world ended but the rent is still due. Life goes on. You'd be surprised what people can adapt to, especially if they don't have a choice. One of the places where life goes on is just west of Seattle. Surrounded by the waters of the Puget Sound is an island. On that island is the Blake Island School of Magic. A decade ago it was known for producing some of the most talented awakened in the world. That reputation was hijacked by the wealthy corporate elite who now park their teenage children there. And since it's a boarding school, their parents mostly forget about them. Three young people, who are certainly not wealthy or elite, are chosen this year to attend this school of magic in hopes of revitalizing their reputation for talent. One from the ash drifts of the Puyallup Barrens, one from the most densely populated slum hive in the world and one from prison. This is their story. -- This story is set in the Shadowrun universe. If you're not familiar with Shadowrun, it mostly tells the stories of deniable mercenaries called shadowrunners in a cyberpunk dystopia. Instead of telling another story solely about shadowrunners, this story will tell the tale of young people navigating a world that is indifferent to them at best and actively hostile at worst. Shadowrunners will be in the story and we'll see them operate, but they won't be its main focus. This story originally began in 2017 as a passion project and continues to this day on the Somethingawful.com forums. The unedited version is over a million words strong. There are currently seven books in this series and I am currently in the process of editing them. If you read this story then you won't lack for content. -- The Topps Company, Inc. has sole ownership of the names, logo, artwork, marks, photographs, sounds, audio, video and/or any proprietary material used in connection with the game Shadowrun.
