《One Of Many: The Story Of A Walking Bush》Chapter 27 – First real prey

I was slowly stumbling through the forest I wasn’t exactly in a happy mood. “At last, I found some people, but not only did they stole my crystal I couldn’t even understand them.” Remembering all that happened to me I was little puzzled as I said: “Did that goddess really notice me using the inspect skill on her, or was it just a coincidence?”
Just as I remembered the beautiful face of the goddess the annoying face of the bastard with his annoying smirk entered my view, I cursed at him: ”I will remember what you did to me and will get back at you one hundred times more!”
I was really lucky on my way back, I saw only a couple of monsters and it was really easy to sneak around them. After walking for half an hour I came back to the trap area, it was already getting really dark so I didn’t want to stay here for long, I looked around and said: “I really need to block the disposal room or more monsters will get inside.”
I went down to the trap took the spiky shield and placed it in the place of the door to the tunnel, after that I took the broken door pieces that were still located inside the trap and temporarily blocked the hole to the disposal room that I created.
I looked around and said: “Oh shit, the trees are getting lit!” I immediately started to run into my safe area, there was still some distance between me and the tunnel when my own leaves started to glow and with them, the terrifying feeling of the mark fell upon me.
It startled me a little and even my imaginary heart skipped a beat, I started to run even faster than before. The feeling of the mark was slowly getting stronger and stronger, I immediately understood that the panther has sensed that I wasn’t in the tunnel anymore and was making his way to me.
But even after panicking a little I still have arrived at the tunnel in time, I climbed the ladder and started to make my way into my room. Halfway there I could hear the panther growl coming from the entrance, I changed my view and looked at the panther.
The panther roared at me again and again, as he was leaving huge marks on the entrance to the tunnel with his huge claws, the only thought that came into my head was that the panther was a lot more aggressive than usual. “Is he getting out of patience?” I asked myself and then said with anger: “Why can’t you just leave me alone, if not you I would be already on my way following the goddess Luna.”
Just as the image of me talking to Luna came into my head, another image appeared as well, it was the villagers running after me with torches. “No no no no, the goddess would never let something like that happen. But still, I need to deal with you before I could even make a step from this cave. *sigh*” I sighed with disappointment.
I gave the panther another glance and returned back into my room to rest, as I returned to the room the roars of the panther didn’t stop and the sounds of metal claws scratching the walls of the tunnel only got stronger. “Eh, whatever there no way of you getting in here.” I deactivated my magic perception skill, but instead going straight back to sleep I checked my status.

“Well nothing unexpected here, I guess I go to sleep, good night.” I relaxed my mind and let my thoughts drift freely inside my head as I slowly fallen asleep. Hours passed and I woke up in the middle of the night as usual.
“Digging time…” I uprooted myself from the ground and went to the extended tunnel and continued to dig, after half an hour the mighty voice rang inside my head.
*”Dig” leveled up to Lv5*
“At last!” I said as I started to use the dig skill again, this time I could use a lot more mana in each skill usage, it almost didn’t increase the efficiency in the digging the tunnel, but it did increase the speed by a lot. Now every time I use the dig skill on the wall a big stone fall from it and crumbled to smaller ones, even if I deplete my mana like nothing it was still a lot more useful than before. “Looks like now I would be able to dig up few other spear traps quite easily.”
Thinking about it a little I checked my status and saw that my mana was almost depleted. “I guess I go rest a little more.” I slept till noon and started to move to the spike trap, on my way out I looked at the entrance wall it was full of claw marks. “Damn devil cat, I really need to start thinking about a way to deal with it.”
I got to the trap and looked at it with disappointed eyes, “Oh right I forgot I didn’t fix it at all.” So without further ado, I went to get my sled from the sharp rocks and bring some branches to the trap. After few trips I got enough branches to create more spears, this time I wanted all the spears to be Gravis spears in case of another wolf or something else falling into the trap, so I started to craft the spears.
I crafted the spears while being rooted into the ground, of course that way I could regen my stamina and slowly regrow my berries back as well. “I guessed that the stamina regeneration that was displayed in my status was only when I am at my best and only while I am rooted to the ground.”
While thinking about my stamina regeneration an interesting idea popped out inside my mind: “Can I grow berries? With the stamina storage skill I should be able forcefully to create berries but I never tried…” Focusing my mind on the skill and the tip of my twigs, something slowly started to pop from the twigs and with it, a mighty voice came as well.
*Skill discovered “Mana Storage Lv2”*
*Skill learned “Fruits production”*
Few bluish berries with a yellow tint grew up on my body, I looked examined them and said: “I almost forgot that Visavil berries restore mana, that would mean that I already had mana storage skill here just waiting for me.” I didn’t inspect the mana storage skill because I already knew that it was the same as the stamina storage one, so I only inspected the new skill.

*Fruits production* – Let the user the ability to grow fruits inside or outside of the user body, the user can choose which size the fruits are and what type. The properties of the fruits deeply depend on the abilities of the user.
“Well, this exactly what I wanted.” I immediately started to focus on one end of my twigs and use the new skill, while using it I imagined a bluish berry and slowly a completely blue berry was slowly forming on the tip of my branch. “I see, my normal berries should restore stamina and mana together because I evolved from Ontopary bush, so while focusing I can create a berry that restores only one of the properties.”
Focusing again on the end of the branch a new berry started to slowly form there, its color was deep orange, the form of the berry was different from the blue one and it more resembled my old red berries. “Lost the color but kept its form, most likely this berry will give a lot more stamina than the old ones.” I was interested in what kind of other berries I would be able to grow with the skill, but after few tries, I discovered that I only could grow a mana and stamina berries only.
“Maybe in the future, I will be able to create some magical berries or other fruits.” A vision of a bush with glowing bananas entered my mind for few moments as I giggled like an idiot. After growing few more berries and crafting few more spears I had a visitor, it was a boar.
A boar was walking not so far away from the trap and it entered my view, of course most of the trap wasn’t complete yet, but there still were few spears down there and some leaves that I spread above it just in case. My lovely sinister smirk formed again on my imaginary face as I picked up a small rock from the ground and flung it at the pig with full force.
“Bullseye!” I shouted with excitement as the rock hit the pig perfectly on its head. The boar immediately looked at me with an angry mug as steam was getting out of its nose. I picked another rock and threw it at him again, sadly this time I missed the target but the effect was enough because it angered the pig even more and it started to charge right at me.
Any other animal would see through the thin layer of leaves that I spread out on the trap in a hurry, but of course the stupid boar wouldn’t even notice it. So without any surprise the boar ran straight to its death, only after he started falling he understood that he was in a world of trouble, but there were nothing it could do.
With a terrible cry the boar fell on a few broken spears that were located in the trap, usually I would be little disappointed that the boar took so little damage from the fall but this time I wasn’t, I still wanted to check out if I could steal the boar’s vision as I did with the rat, so I needed the boar in a good condition. I uprooted myself from the ground and started to go down to the trap, while doing so I inspected the boar.
-Wild Boar Lv4-
Health: 14/21
Mana: 3/4
Stamina: 11/14
“Aren’t you a lively one, well that won’t change much.” I said as I looked at the struggling boar, the boar was pierced by three broken spears they didn’t enter his body too deeply but for me, that was enough. As the boar saw me it started to struggle even more and broke free from the spears as it rushed straight at me.
I saw the boar rushing to me and immediately jumped up into the air, I used the dig skill on the wall with my hand to hold myself into it, the boar hit his head into the wall while I was just above him. I released my grip and fell onto his back, the boar was still little shaken from the hit so I had some time to bind it with my branches and roots.
I spread my roots and branches around the pig’s body, but just as I started the boar started to struggle. “Even after a hit like this to the head the pig can struggle, looks like it really has nothing in its head.” I mumbled as I continued to twist my roots around the pig’s legs.
This rodeo continued for a few minutes but at last I won, mostly for the fact that the pig still was injured and couldn’t damage me at all. The pig was subdued and occasionally released few weak cries, but I got tired from its annoying screams so I twisted my branches around its mouth. “Well lets the experiment begin!” I shouted as my roots slowly started to enter the pig wounds.
A strong feeling of fear entered my mind but I brushed it aside as it was nothing and turned all my focus to my roots, slowly the white lines started to appear on part of my view, when the lines appeared I moved my focus to them. Few moments passed and more lines started to appear one after another, slowly they started to create an image the image was of a wall, of course it was the wall in front of me, I could see this wall through the eyes of the pig.
All this vision was nice and cool but something was really strange. “Where is the skill?” I asked in confusion, I already could see the image clearly but I still didn’t get the skill for it. “Maybe I am missing something.” I looked at my roots, only the tips of my roots were embedded inside the pig. A sinister smile appeared on my face again as I said: “I am so sorry…” I wasn’t.
With full force I inserted my roots deeper and deeper into the pig’s body, even with my twigs covering the pig’s mouth you could hear a soul shaking cries coming from it. It cried for mercy, but mercy is something it would never get from me.
The pig continued its cries as my roots entered deeper and deeper into its body, I didn’t stop till all of my roots were inside. I spread them all over inside his legs, around his spine and even around its brain. I spread my roots around its body as I focused all of my mind on my roots yet again and as I did it the mighty voice rang inside my head.
*Skill learned “Overtake”*
Just as I got the skill a strong feeling of pain was rushing through my body because of this pain it was really hard to breathe. “Ah, it’s so hard to breath… Wait what?”
