*You have become immune to mood altering drugs. Gamer's Mind has reached level 8.
*You have ingested 50 doses of Ebola Vaccine, intended for intravenous injection. You have infected your stomach flora with a weak Ebola version. You have gained ulcer. Your stomach flora has died.
*Gamer's Body has prevented you from vomiting and contaminating your floor and the country of Italy with a new Ebola variant. You have become immune to the Ebola virus. You have become immune to the ulcer virus. Gamer's Body has reached level 9.
Pef wiped his forehead as he glanced at the last vaccine box. Luckily, progressing steadily with stronger vaccines had worked, allowing him to boost his resistance to medication and disease.
The carpet was still soaked in blood, but he had plenty chemicals left.
"Damn game. Could have given me a better version of these perks. Gamer's Body in particular. Puking my guts out to level it out wasn't fun at all..." Pef muttered with a grimace.
*Update 1.027. Gamer's Body will start at level 3, next time.
*Gamer's Mind has prevented you from going berserk and kicking the hotel's table out the window.
Pef tapped the bloody carpet and sent it into inventory. On return, it was perfectly clean.
With a sigh, Pef dropped into the bed and fell asleep.
+++++++++
A green fog, and sounds of water drops in the distance. The smell of blood, and fear.
A blur of a black axe, a horned monster, cold blue marble walls, going forever.
"Help! I can't last long now..." a desperate voice calling.
+++++++++
Pef jumped awake, scanning the room for dangers before calming down.
*You have slept in a luxurious bed. HP and MP restored. +10 Percent Exp bonus for 10 hours.
*You have experienced a prophetic dream. You gain +1 Kharma attribute.
"Hmmm. Today I had planned to visit that dungeon...I wonder who will I meet." Pef whispered while checking around the room, storing everything he owned and cleaning every item provided by the hotel.
He passed by the reception, and asked for the bus route for Rome. Fake trails always helped.
Then Pef left, taking a city cab towards the town of Madera.
Shorts and tennis shoes worked well enough for now, but he made a note to visit a few more renowned clothes makers.
Prada, Armani, Versace and many others. Not to mention a few famous car makers.
A minute of finding a secluded alley later...

*You have entered the Underworld City Dungeon. You are now on Floor 1.
*You have equipped a sportbiker suit. All physical damage is reduced by 3.
*You have armored yourself with a Bronze armor set. All physical damage is reduced by 7.
*Due to wearing a Bronze helmet, and having reduced Perception, you lose -1 Agility.
"That's okay. I hope to use my brains, not my legs today." Pef muttered at the screen.
*For making a promise you cannot keep, you gain...
*Nope, can't think of anything yet.
Pef drew his polearm and stepped inside the stone corridors, every step careful and cautious.
A pair of red eyes watched him from a hidden nook in a wall.
Pef kept walking, senses tingling in the back of his mind. He eyed a choke point, where the walls drew closer.
A good point for an ambush, or for a fortified stand.
With a loud cry sounding closely like " Leeeeroyyy!" Pef ran towards the bend in the wall and struck with the Dacian falx.
*You have killed a Brown Kobold. 20 Exp gained. Drop: Iron dagger.
A mob of chest-high rodents followed, but were easily dispatched, as Pef only had to defend a meter wide passage.
The kobold blood flowed like a river, repairing the falx and providing a stream of Exp for the Gamer.
After an hour, the familiar Ding arrived.
*You have killed 1000 Brown Kobolds. You have gained the Perk: Pack Rat. + 1 Agility.
*You gained 20000 Exp.
*You have reached level 11.
With a smile, Pef ran forward, searching for the boss of this floor. It took him a bit, as the walls formed an improvised labyrinth.
"Observe"
Brown Kobold King
Lvl50: 20000 HP, 2000 MP
Status: weak, starved, furious.
Pef launched his newest attempt at a magic spell. "Lightning spear!"
A magic weapon appeared in his hand and Pef rapidly threw it at the boss.
-1100 dmg.
Seeing the MP consumption was only 9 MP, Pef began rapidly casting more and more spears. In 10 seconds, the Kobold King dropped dead.
*You have defeated the Boss of Floor 1. You gain 5000 Exp.
*You have found the Lightning arrow manual. You have found 3 Medium mana potions. You have found 1 Greater health potion.
*Descend to Floor 2? Yes/No/In a minute.
Pef elbowed the 'In a minute' tab while groaning in his head.
Sitting down, he took out the new manual and clicked Yes to learn it.

The entire method of gathering mana, forming and shaping mana into Lightning, then casting it into arrows... It was similar to the spell he himself had made for the Lightning spear, yet completely different.
These arrows would float in the air around the caster, and aimed with your mind. And you could cast hundreds of them, at once! Much faster too.
*You have gained Magic Intellect. Understanding and creating new spells will be easier now.
*You gain +1 Magic.
"Well, that's certainly something nice. Perhaps I could have my arrows drill into the target, like a bullet is spinning..."
*You have created Mana arrow.
*You have created Mana spinning arrow.
*You have created Lightning spinning arrow.
*For creating a pure mana spell, you gain the Shaper perk. Mana manipulation is 5 percent faster. Magic +1.
"Huh? If only I had access to a magic library... I could gain so more perks and ideas for spells..." Pef muttered out loud.
*The Gamer has gained a new quest: Repository.
*Loot the Saint John Templars' Magic Repository.
*Primary objective: Steal 10 Magic Spell Manuals.
???
???
???
???
Rewards: Spells, Money, Exp, Enemies.
*Do you choose to: Accept quest now/Later/Much later/Die.
Our hero sighed and tapped Accept.
He did ask for a magic library, after all. Nobody said anything about the visiting hours though.
*You have attempted to Meditate. Confirm? Yes/Later.
Pef's eyebrow twitched as he clicked Yes.
*Mana will regenerate at 200% percent speed while you Meditate. Your planning and thinking abilities gain 20 percent bonus. Moving your limbs will dispel the effects.
Perhaps if he floated his body while meditating?
*You have attempted to create a new spell: Levitation. Is this truly what you wanted? Yes/What?/No!/Die.
"Yes"he muttered with an angry tone.
*You have learned Levitation. You have used Levitation while Meditating. You have created a new spell: Floating Meditation. Is this truly what you wanted? Yes/What?/No!/Die.
"Yes!" Pef yelled and punched high in joy.
A second later he crashed onto the labyrinth stone floor.
*You have moved a limb while Meditating. Action interrupted.
Pef facepalmed and dismissed the silly windows.
"One day ... One day the game will be finished, and all these bugs solved. Ah, I need to study some game theory and more programming." He said while strolling forward into the dungeon.
-30
*You have stepped on a trap. The metal jaws deal 30 dmg.
"Damn it!"
*A Red Kobold shot you with a Flaming arrow. You receive 10 dmg.
"This is stupid..." he muttered while racking his brain for something to block magic attacks.
His Magic Intellect came in handy now. "Mana Shield?"
*You have created a new spell: Mana Shield. Is this truly what you wanted? Yes/What?
"... Yes" Pef said with a sad voice. "A lot of programming..."
*Mana Shield level 1, costs 20 MP. Blocks 20 damage, reduces incoming damage by 1.
Pef thought for a minute. "Mana Shield","Mana Shield" "Mana Shield" "Mana Shield" "Mana Shield" "Mana Shield" "Mana Shield" "Mana Shield" "Mana Shield" "Mana Shield" "Mana Shield" "Mana Shield".
Now covered by a layer of shields, all transparent, Pef proceeded forwards, copying the spells he encountered, and grinding the levels of his own skills and spells.
*You have killed 1000 Red Kobolds. You gained the perk Roasted. +1 Constitution.
*You have gained 25000 Exp.
*Mana Shield has reached level 4. Blocks 24 damage, reduces incoming damage by 4.
"Nice! Everything is working just as planned..." Pef proclaimed loudly.
*The Red Kobold King hits you for 346 dmg.
*Your legs are broken. Movement speed reduced by 90 percent.
"What?" Pef exclaimed in panic.
*Gamer's Mind prevents you from experiencing panic. Logical thoughts save the day.
"Levitation" Pef ordered, while pushing with his hands off the ground.
A spiked morning star passed just under his (crushed) legs.
Soon, he bounced off the ceiling, and managed to see the boss of the Floor 2.
"Observe"
*Red Kobold King(Elite)
Lvl 100: 60000 HP, 3000 MP
Status: fast, cursed, annoyed.
"Meditate"
*You have begun Floating Meditation. MP regen +200%.
"Spinning Lightning Arrow." Entangled Fates Book 1 - Quantum Beginnings
“By far, the greatest danger of Artificial Intelligence is that people conclude too early that they understand it.” —Eliezer Yudkowsky Hey all, we're moving over to book 2. This content is in a state of transition. The book is now availble on Amazon (includes extra chapters): https://www.royalroad.com/amazon/B07W1534R8 Artificial intelligence was nearly mankind’s last invention. AI took off like a rocket, then when it racked up an impressive death toll, it crashed before it could blossom and took most high-tech industries with it. Resistance and fears became deep-set. Two decades after the infamous Rev. 4.6 incidents, humanity hasn’t quit dreaming of the wealth and power that could be at their fingertips. A new generation of mega-corporations rose from the ashes. When one melds a quantum computer to a barely functional mental patient as a PR move, there are those who seek to profit, those who want to destroy it, and Alex. Alex Sage is a typical college student trying to keep up his grades and maybe find a meaningful connection with the fairer sex. Then, an automated semi crashes into his home, killing his family and turning his head into a pin cushion in the process. Alex awakens to find most of his memories gone and an illegal AI hidden in his brain implant. Now the pet project of a tech billionaire and heavily in debt, Alex struggles to stay valuable enough to be kept online. Still grappling with the repercussions of his injuries, and threats from a dangerous anti-augmentation political movement, there are no easy answers and threats loom around every corner. Alex must use whatever resources he can to escape from under the thumb of a ruthless corporation, while keeping those he comes to love safe. Chapters will stay up on RRL until Aug 10. It'll go up on Kindle Unlimited after that. How do you get those extra chapters I didn't have planned for RR? If you want them, they'll be in the published book. Book 2 will still make sense without them - I made sure of that. But... isn't $3 a lot for extra chapters? Think of it as tipping me for a good job and you'd also be getting my eternal thanks. If you enjoyed it so much that the idea of missing out a few chapters haunts you, I did my job as an author and made an engaging story. What's in those extra chapters? Resolving a few issues, set up for the cybernetic revolution, a rather intense sex scene with a new partner, revelations of who's really pulling strings, and a bit of set up for book 2. Complaints that people missed out on it when it was published here won't help (sorry!). I posted this for the folks who helped me shape the book, which is you all! (Again, yay!) But... Why! Why not keep it all on RR forever? My editor likes being paid for one. For two, I'd like the ability to get broader readership. If I break even on editor costs, I'll be incredibly happy. What about book 2? Drafts for Book 2 will go up around Sept 10. My draft of Book 2 is done, and it will be handed to the editor once Book 1 is published. Feedback has been even more positive. Beta readers devoured it and wanted more. I'll add a link to Book 2 once it's up on RR. I'm more or less, using you all for Beta Readers, so you get it before it's "canon" and edited. I invite active and meaningful feedback during this process. In return, you get early access to chapters. That does mean that the book content or plot might be adjusted before it gets published as I refine it. Sex Y/N? Yes. I heard the feedback, 90% wanted it explicit. You all will get the "full" experience. Will I dump all of book 2 here? Honestly, I'm not sure yet. At a minimum, it'll be up to the 75% mark as we collect feedback, much like what I did with book 1. It really depends on how good the feedback is and how nice people are. Lots of support + meaningful feedback to make it better = higher likelihood you get all the book. Will be it up here indefinitely? No, it'll probably go up on KU at some point, but I'll make sure there's enough time for a large readership to grab it here. Then we move to book 3 which already is around 60K words already. What about other adventures in the same universe/characters? Yep. Absolutely. Nothing ready to share yet though. I plan to keep those side chapters and more slice of life stories as RR exclusive. Since I'm carving this off in book-sized segments, I'll have to figure out where those disconnected story arcs belong. I'm open to suggestions.
