《I awoke as the hero of Oakvale》Chapter 5. Outside of Time

As I stood before Barrow Fields Demon door the old man faced blockage said the same thing it always did in the game," Oh no, Not again. Another bony adventurer seeking to plunder my riches. I'm not interested in your meager frame. Get some meat on you! I want you beefy! blubbery! Plump! Porcine! Stop being a slave to public perception, and treat yourself. Pies, meat, beer, anything, but lots of it! Eat yourself large, and you'll be welcome here!"

"What a pervert you are wanting a child to drink beer and get beefy for you!" I remarked.

"What?!!! That's not what I meant!" The old door hurriedly remarked.

"Oh, and I guess then I should be a slave to your perception and be forced to get fat because I need what's inside. " I stated.

"Well nobody's forcing you to come here," The Demon door pointed out.

"Circumstances are forcing me so I'll give you a choice. If you don't grant me access I'll be forced to come here and fart on you every day, right in your mouth. I'll have no choice but to accept the evil points," I threatened.

"You wouldn't!" The Demon door screamed.

"Oh, I will even though it doesn't sit right with me. Also the longer you take to grant me access the worse its gonna get. I'll start eating cabbage, pickled eggs, garlic, asparagus. I hope it doesn't come down to me having to use you as a toilet too," I said truly looking the part of a villain. As much as I'd hate to do that I was more desperate for progress than the door could imagine. As a small weak child, there were limits to how far and where I could go to gain what I need.

"Fine! Just don't do that", The door began to open.

"Oh, and I'll be staying here for quite a while so feel free to manifest yourself and lock others out while I'm here" I demanded.

"What a bully!" The door said as it disappeared.

Walking inside I set down a bag that I made out of one of my old shirts. I just tied the sleeve and neck into knots making it a sack. It contained a few apples and a small stockpile of dried meat I'd made over the past month. I wasn't planning for what happened I just like dried meats. especially Biltong which is meat dried after soaking up vinegar and salt. It retains juiciness while also being well preserved. It is so tender for dried meat. It took all my willpower to not eat it when the door demanded I fatten up. I need rations for this to work!

Taking note of the clean spring inside that would be my water source I turned my attention to the wooden chest nearby. Then opening the chest to find the blue bottle of "Will Masters Elixir" inside and grabbing it. Taking a meditative stance crossing my legs, I down the contents of the bottle. The game never said that the potion tasted like ass but I thought it might. Medicine always tastes horrible! Focusing the influx of Will energy to where the pool of energy existed already inside my body, I could feel its overall size grow. It was somehow both a hot and cool sensation. The power condensed into the area around my solar plexus or Dantian. My overall capacity for Will was larger and as a result, its rate of replenishment was much faster too.

Perhaps increasing the size of my Will pool now would result in it being way bigger in the end than it was in-game. I'm still in my early stages of development now after all. Those Guild idiots let the original protagonist waste his early years swinging sticks and beating up scarecrows for no experience. The only reason I can think they would do this is to prepare the boy's body for the immense power it would store. This would only apply though for Might and Skill powers as a strong body is not required at all to use Will. I mean come on couldn't he spend like an hour a day doing push-ups, sit-ups, and run a mile for fitness three times a week for fitness like everyone on earth.

Demon doors Fable always claimed were people cursed into magical objects by the Archons. So basically these people were cursed by my ancestors. They may have been willing volunteers but regardless I don't want to point out to them that I'm from the family responsible for their current state. Maybe being an immortal door is like the greatest thing ever. William Black the first Will user and Arckon is still around and called Scythe. Fable 2 said he made the first Demon doors so I'll confront and ask him about it when I get the chance.

The spaces inside are somehow sealed off magically from the rest of the world. In some cases, it even seems like they may be in other worlds or times. Regardless, I need the Demon door to make something. At this point in history item, inchanting is a lost art. The old kingdom new it and in 600 years it will be commonplace again.

In fable 3 it turns out that the protagonist of Fable 2 created the "Sanctuary". A magic place that exists outside of Albion and outside of the flow of regular time. Albion is what this world's inhabitants call it. The 3rd game's protagonist whose also my descendant using a much larger guild seal shaped object to go to the Sanctuary. This doesn't surprise me as the guild seals allow teleportation in this world. Another reason why the heroes guild is so choosy about who they take in and grant hero status to. There is a limited amount of these relics.

The Hero of Bowerstone must have figured out how they are made and created a larger one that could reach beyond Albion. First, he would have had to use his power to reach it which also doesn't surprise me as William Black is said to have done so first. The antagonist of the third game is the "Corruption" a being of darkness and disease. William was first summoned to the void by Jack of blades who as far as we know was born there. After defeating Jack and the rest of his kin known as the court, he returned there when he got cancer. He cut himself and Willed as much of the disease as he could out of himself. Time barely exists or moves in the void. A being can exist there but will never grow old there. In 600 years from now, "the Corruption" will grow immensely powerful. The corruption will also give birth to other nasty antagonists like the " Corrupter" and the "Crawler". Time in the void for these being would be equivalent to millions of years, giving them plenty of time to grow powerful before being dealt with.

I won't stop at just defeating Jack. I'm not a fool like William Black who leaves huge messes for his descendants to deal with. All the while watching and not caring as they are killed, tortured, or starving in poverty. I'll kill the Corruption, Corrupter, and the Crawler before they are too powerful to be stopped. If Theresa is alive in a thousand years from now like in the games then I'll be there too. We will fight these threats together as a family, all of us! No child will ever go hungry before me much less one of my children.

Such a paradise is only ever achieved in fable 3 where a new kingdom has been created. This land is currently in a severe state of chaos. The old kingdom crumbled and as a result, only small mostly lawless towns remain run by "Mayors". There are also bandit and pirate warlords but its not relevant at this stage to think about. These Mayors are whatever nobles survived the fall of the old kingdom and managed to stay in a position of power. Once I defeat Jack and if I marry Lady Grey then I'll become the Mayor of Bowerstone. Bowerstone is the largest town and is also inside of a castle. This would put me in a position to make such a future a reality. Had Theresa seen that far ahead? Could that be the reason or one of the reasons she reached out to Elvira? Well, it doesn't matter because I know she has her reasons and that's probably one of them.

Bringing my attention back to focusing on the task at hand I examined the interior of the Demon door. Not the mystical woods I was in that contained no other living creatures but where the door melded with the surrounding rocks. There were circuitry like markings that contained Will energy and glowed blue coming from the Demon door and disappearing into the rocks. These lines most likely ran throughout the entire sealed space. I didn't understand how they worked or how they were written in the first place.

What I need to fight Jack, and these other God-like foes is the sanctuary. A room with magic walls inside of the void. A magic room is necessary as otherwise I would be unprotected from the Corruption's influence. How can I get what doesn't exist? I can make it myself that's how. The second game's protagonist is the second most powerful hero ever seen in the series and he creates the sanctuary. For other heroes, this could mean its impossible to achieve but you know who's the strongest in the series? It the Hero of Oakvale is and currently, that's me!

For my plan though I didn't need to know how magic structures were made. If William Black can "Will" a disease to leave his body then I can impose my Will onto an existing enchantment. The void existed outside of Albion but also exists everywhere simultaneously. Time and space are connected and since the void is another space I would need to force this room out of Albion's space. I confirmed that time and space are still connect when I froze time on an object. The fact that time stopped object cannot be moved from where it is in space means there's a connection. So placing my hand back onto the blue line I willed time away from this place. It quickly consumed all of my Will energy but I didn't give up. I could tell the location of this place had moved ever so slightly. So I continued over and over again. After what must have been days I could tell the exertion of my will was causing my quantity of energy and pool size to increase. I was growing stronger just from using my power to the fullest!

The Demon door wasn't too happy about being moved out of Albion and let his displeasure known to me. He also wasn't happy how I was rationing food and felt I was, "Wasting away".

"What are you, my mother?" I questioned with a scoff.

"Being strong won't do you much good if your dead", The door retorted.

"Fair point once I confirm this works well start heading back" I comforted the door.

"By the way what is your name door?" I asked.

"Either I don't remember or I don't have one", The Demon door claimed.

"Then I'll call you Nemo after a captain from a famous book of another world", I told the door. At first, there was silence and then a sort of rumbling sound.

"Are you crying?" I asked.

"No, I just got something in my eye!" The Door protested.

Getting back to work I focused with greater zeal, moving the space more and more. After about a week I felt something give and Nemo said, "My gosh were nowhere!"

Turning his door transparent I could see the infinite blackness that was the void. The very place that Jack was never able to get back to. It was the resource I'd use to defeat him. Of course, it was ironic that the source of his original power would be used against him. Here outside of the regular flow of time, I could train indefinitely while aging only a second for every day spent here. Running low on provisions though it was time to turn back for now.

I would have waited longer to start focusing my Will into the structure but I could see the most hideous creature heading towards us to investigate. It was the Crawler and boy was he ugly. It was way uglier than I remember it being in the game but I still recognized it. The monster couldn't hurt or influence us but best to avoid the thing for now. Using all the Will energy I had on hand I willed us back into Albion's space. I forced us in but made sure to not leave a path for the Crawler to enter. Then I Willed to seal space behind us after I entered. Doing all this expended my Will several Times even though the size of my Will pool was over double what it once was.

That was close in a certain sense. Even though I knew the Crawler couldn't hurt me inside the Demon door space I didn't know if the doors mind could be corrupted. Nemo, as I started calling him, was once a living person and could therefore potentially be influenced mentally by the corruption. This could only happen if they targeted him directly which is why we fled for now. There are ways for me to prevent this and protect myself should it ever somehow happen but not on this trip. I would need to make preparations first before I try to come back. If I can find a way to prevent the abominations here from being drawn to us then that would be perfect.

The trip back felt longer even though my increased Will pool should have made it faster. What I hadn't expected was that the trip back would be harder than leaving Albion. No wonder the second hero used Teleportation magic instead of a magic moving castle. Albion's space naturally tries to keep things not within it outside. A sort of immune system that fights a would-be invading disease. So getting back in was much harder than getting out. It was slow and once again I was pushing myself to my limits. I had started having glowing blue Will lines form on my skin. Now anyone who looked at me could instantly tell I was a Will user.

My body, however, was worse for wear as the lack of food provisions meant my daily rations were much less.

The dang old door that is Nemo rarely shuts up about how I'm wasting away. I had underestimated this once exactly how dangerous this trip is but I don't plan to do so twice. I was all skin and bones before we made it back. It was a good thing that This place had a somewhat unlimited supply of water. Nemo said that this place recycles water automatically. Had that not been the case I would have died long before making it back.

Struggling out of the demon door I found my physical strength was practically non-existent right now. I crawled as best I could into barrow fields where fortunately for me some traders saw me. I could hear them talking about fetching food out of their packs as I collapsed.

When I woke up there was a damp cloth on my head. I was laying in my own bed and there were several empty bowls of what looks like it had contained fish soup. I looked to the side and Theresa was staring at me.

"Did you find what you were looking for little brother?"

"Yes but I'm a long way from being able to use it", I replied.

"Not as much as you think. Guess how long you have been gone," She requested.

"At least two or three weeks right?"

"No brother its been two and a half days", My sister stated.

"How's that possible I spent weeks leaving and entering this space most of the time I was gone. I was only in the void for a few moments..." As I was stating that I realized. When someone moves really fast time affects them differently. It's the whole "E=MC Squared" Thing and basically your personal time is longer the faster you move. Since I was forcing myself out of space I was technically traveling a long distance really fast. I was also moving outside of the regular flow of time. How strange is that? I guess even a blind squirrel finds a few nuts.

The upside is I could use this to grant myself more training time but the downside is I'll still age unlike inside of the void. I could end up like in the game where I look 65 years old while my sister is only 20. Perhaps the previous first games protagonist or the guild figured out something similar which is why that could happen if one trained too long. It could also explain where the protagonist of the second game got the idea for the Sanctuary. It was an improvement of something someone had already created just like the guild seal that he made a bigger version of.

After what had happened before I left and now that I came back looking like a mummy I doubted my parents would let me out of their sight easily. I mean I can stop time but I would need to earn gold and buy provisions before I attempt anything like this again. They would probably do everything in their power to prevent me from getting what I need to leave. They also might get me enrolled in the guild academy early which would have been good if it didn't mean Jack would attack them while I was away.

"Don't worry Little brother", Theresa said cutting off my train of thought.

"Why? were basically screwed now aren't we?"

"No Arn I took this opportunity to tell them everything. I also told her when and how you would return. She saw the Demon door an object believed unmovable and indestructible disappear. Mother has seen and felt our powers and now she believes. She too wishes to grow stronger and fight the threat with her battle-ax in hand. When Jack comes we will not fight alone!" Theresa explained.

When she said all that I realized that with her future sight Theresa had lived many lifetimes with her future sight. It felt like she was many times older than the girl appeared. She too now held a mentality that didn't fit her appearance. Now with so many changes, this timeline didn't resemble the old one at all. My current knowledge of the future would become less certain but at least we have a chance now, a chance to save Oakvale.
