《The non-adventures of a Dungeon Core》Chapter 13: Summoning the first Tier 2 creature

“Well first of all you need to summon a floor boss for your first floor. I see that you haven’t assigned one yet so until you do you can’t even start your second floor.”
“Is that why none of my fairies decided to stay in the boss room? I told them to spread out and none of them picked that room.”
“Of course. The boss room is special. It has the most powerful creature or creatures on the entire floor, depending on what sort of boss fight you decide on, is placed. For now, just think of it as your last line of defense. As you move to deeper floors new ways to create floor bosses become available. Maybe you decide to let your boss move between certain rooms, maybe you let it roam the entire floor. You might designate several creatures as a single boss encounter so adventurers will have to fight a group instead of a single strong creature. Right now, you should just make your fist Tier 2 summon your boss for this floor.”
“I have several fairies that can evolve. Can’t I evolve one of them and make that one the boss instead?”
“But that will just create extra work for you by the time your first adventurers come to visit. Remember how I told you a god might be watching over you, at least for now? Now, we will try and test if you can do things the system hasn’t told you that you can do. That’s why I want you do summon a new creature.”
“So, I just summon a Tier 2 fairy?”
“Yes, but while you do so imagine its skin tone very pale, almost white. I also want you to imagine that the fairy you’re summoning has become ‘Fallen’. It would be lovely if you could also imagine that it was one of five heroes of old that had saved the kingdom but now had forsaken nature in pursuit of power.”
“What? Fallen? Heroes? What’s all this about?”
“We’re creating your very first evil villain my dear pebble. A small part of the story your adventurers will experience. They will come to rescue the lost Fairy kingdom that has been hidden for so long from the evil that has taken over. At least that’s what will motivate them at first. We will obviously need to expand and change the story as you grow. That’s why I wanted you to think of this summon as one of five fallen heroes. The adventurers will fight a new hero at each of your first five floors. We’ll figure out where the story goes later. It will take you some time to reach that many floors so no need to hurry. I’ll also make sure to come back with plenty of books so you could perhaps help or even create your own stories as you grow.”

“So. A pale, almost white fairy that used to be one of five heroes that had saved the Fairy kingdom in the past but now has forsaken nature to gain power and it will be called a ‘Fallen’?”
“That should be fine. Normally you should only be able to summon a pale version of a normal fairy but let us see if your intentions can influence the system. Or the god that watches over you... maybe.”
I pull up the summoning part of my menu and I now have the option to summon a ‘Adult Fairy’ that’s Tier 2 for 50 mana. So twice as expensive as my Tier 1 summons. I wonder how much more powerful it will be.
I try to summon it while trying to remember everything Lilly told me. Nothing seems to be happening. I wonder if I did something wrong. Then all my mana gets drained from my core and I black out.
When I wake up, I feel a familiar tapping. The annoyance I feel is almost greater than the pain from the mana drain. Almost.
“I’m awake, I’m awake. What happened Lilly?”
“Read your messages. I’ll let you figure it out, little pebble. At least now we know you can do things that isn’t normal.”
Confused I look towards where the blue boxes are in my vision.
Attempting to summon Tier 2 'Adult Fairy' according to the specifications given by the Dungeon Core...
Alterations to creature exceed parameters set by the system. Summoning failure...
Override...
Attempting to find a solution...
Solution found. Creating a new race of 'Fairies' to summon.
You can now summon 'The Fallen'. A race of fairies that has perverted their connection to nature in pursuit of power. Summoning a Tier 2 'Fallen Adult Fairy'. Status altered to suit the intention of the Dungeon Core. Based on the changes made and the creation of a new species of 'Fairies' your already summoned 'Fairies' have had thier description slightly altered.
Altering name of 'Fairies' based on the split requested by the Dungeon Core.
Name altered to 'Fae' to signify both the common origin and seperation of the Fae into two distinct groups.
You can now summon Tier 1 'Young Fae' and 'Fallen Young Fae'. You can now summon Tier 2 'Adult Fae' and 'Fallen Adult Fae'.
The Dungeon Core has created a new race.
Based on this and the desire of the Dungeon Core to create an already established history for the race in question the system has created the ability for the Dungeon Core to create a history for this new race if it so desires. The system will model future summons based on the the history the Core provides.

Please note that you can alter the history at any point in the future but if the new history affects the abilites and strenghts of already summoned creatures the system will deny the new information and revoke the ability of the Dungeon Core to alter the history of this new race.
I finish reading the messages and look around. There is in fact a white fairy standing on the opposite side of me compared to where Lilly is. I look a little closer and a little information box shows up in addition to the normal status window.
Illona. Fallen Hero of the Fae.
Part of the Lost Fae kingdom. In her pursuit of an ever-greater power she has perverted the bond all Fae have with nature. One of the five fallen heroes. She was the first to sacrifice everything, even her kinship with others of her kind. First of the 'Fallen' but not the last as others soon followed her.
Well so far it looks like I did it. Somehow. I call in one of my old fairies to see what has changed with my old summons. Nothing seemed to have changed visually at least as the fairy, or Fae I should say now I guess, flew in. I focused and found another little box to read.
Telar, a Young Fae of the Lost Fae kingdom.
Well it certainly wasn’t much. I tried to call in another Fae but he too had the same description apart for the name. I wisely deduced that all my old summons must be the same and they were basically unaffected by what I had somehow done beyond the fact their race changed name and that they came from ‘the Lost Fae kingdom’. I send both of them back after making sure nothing else had changed.
I suppose the system didn’t have more to go on and it was up to me to create this lost kingdom. I wasn’t sure how I was supposed to create a kingdom though. What even was a kingdom? Maybe the books Lilly brought might help explain it?
“So, little pebble. How does it feel to create a whole race?”
“Confusing.”
“I’m sure it is but really, you just keep surprising me in more and more ways. What happened will really help us craft something wonderful. The only sad part is that I can’t fill in the history of this new race by myself. I tried but nothing happened. I guess you’ll be doing a lot of storytelling in the future. The ability to shape an entirely new race... What an amazing thing. I haven’t heard anything about this in all my life. Dungeon Cores truly does have a small part of the gods power in some ways.”
“What? I have the power of the gods?”
“A small part of it at least. Think about it. You can create life from nothing but mana and now you can even create a new race of beings. Granted they don’t really have a life according to the of so wise churches of all the different gods, one of the few things they all agree on. Since the living things dungeons summon depend on them staying in or near it to stay alive. That power to create life is a part of why dungeons get killed. Some churches will kill you since you upset the natural order and is a perversion of life according to them or you have individuals that want to gain that power for themselves and will stop at nothing to get it.”
“I’m not sure I like the sound of that.”
“They’re all fools. If the gods didn’t wish dungeons to exists there wouldn’t be any and trying to take the power of a Dungeon Core? Do they think no one has ever tried it before? Fools, all of them I say. Now set Illona here as your floor boss and let's talk about your second floor.”
I can’t really come up with an argument not to do as she said so I go to my ‘Life’ menu and select the option to make my newly summoned Fallen Fae the floor boss.
'Illona, the Fallen Hero' has been designated as the Boss of Floor 1. All requirements needed to expand met. You can now begin expansion of your second floor.
Illona walks out of my core room without me giving her an order to. It must have something to do with being a 'Floor Boss' I guess. I didn't get to check how much stronger she became but since she's my first Tier 2 creature I wouldn't even know how much being a 'Boss' boosted her. More importantly, I could now begin to expand again.

But Emiluna is not a normal girl and her destiny far bigger than she could have ever imagined.Join her as she finds out what awaits just behind the horizon.[Word from the author]I am looking to create a fantasy world that has some logic to it and stays believable even as characters gain power and progress in levels.Classes and level quantify the people's progress, but they do not artificially inflate their power to demi-god levels. I am primarily trying to write a captivating story, not "power-porn". That means it will be slower than the fast burning litRPG you might be used to, but it won't burn out that quickly either and I won't drop half of my plots at the wayside. I should mention that English is not my native language. I hope it is mostly unnoticeable, but sometimes I manage to slip some awkard sentence structure in there (German sometimes puts things together in reverse). It it also my first time writing an actual fantasy novel and the first time writing anything at length in English. Any constructive feedback is very welcome.Credit where credit is due: Cover picture by Paul Bica (Licensed under CC 2.0)Check out his amazing photos here: https://www.flickr.com/photos/dexxusYes, my cover picture is a photo, not a drawing. :D I might try my hand at some Paint-ification later to add the title.[participant in the Royal Road Writathon challenge]
