Chapter 05-02
Alex and Obsidian took no steps to be quiet. After activating her ability Alex lifted Obsidian and threw her through the side door of the factory. The door exploded inward like an expanding bubble of metal until the frame couldn’t take it anymore. Alex flew in only moments behind her. She tumbled to a stop bouncing up onto her feet with her fists balled tightly up, ready to fight.
As expected, the room was full of unconscious goons who had fallen at their machines. They were greeted by the sight of the floor lettered by bodies. One man remained standing working at his machine. He danced with earbuds in his ears and was completely oblivious to what was going on around him.
A door on the wall on the opposite side of the factory slammed opened and a dozen men filed into the room. As soon as they ran into the large open room, they were affected by the device that was still sounding, hovering somewhere in the center of the room. The each slowed, but unlike their weaker mates they did not faint completely.
Alex flew up over a machine and dropped down into a group of three of them. He clenched his fist, used a little energy and punched the first in the face. He dropped like a rock and was completely out. Alex didn’t bother using energy for the second and third. Kicking one in the gut and punching the other in the side of his head they were both quickly brought down.
Obsidian made her way around the machine the long way. She hardened her skin and tackled the first guard with her shoulder. He dropped to the ground like a sack of potatoes. She dropped her body and used the momentum of her run to flip her legs over her head kicked another guard in the face.
It was far to easy for Alex to duck under the incoming attacks of the next three guards that attempted to hit him. They moved sluggishly and had to think really hard about each of their moves. He dodged four attacks dropping down, then back. He balled his fist and punched the guard to his left in the face.
Dropping down he swept the feet out from under the guard to his right. The guard fell back, and his head smashed into the ground. Alex rolled to the right to avoid having his face stomped. He reached up and grabbed the guard’s ankle and twisted sharply until the man dropped onto his stomach. Alex kicked his head and rolled him off of him.

It felt like the fight hadn’t even started yet when he climbed off of the ground. They had taken out eight of the guards which only left four remaining. They were clearly dazed and moved like they were drunk. Alex glanced to Obsidian at his left who nodded that she was ready to go.
They rushed the guards. Alex reached for his crowbar but decided against it. The weapon simply was not needed and would have just been cruel. With his palm he deflected a fist that, at the man’s full power, probably would have broken his nose. He punched the man in the gut and shouldered his body out of the way.
Obsidian activated her power and, taking advantage of their weakened state, she ran at the closest guard. She pounded her shoulder into his midsection tackling him back into the second guard that was near her. With a yell of strength, she forced them back quickly building up speed and slammed them both into a steel post that held up the ceiling. Both of the men’s bodies fell limp after impact.
Alex had to move super-fast as a fist came a hairs width from cross hooking his face. Too much focus was on what Obsidian was doing and he lost control of the situation. He reached up and wrapped his arm around the guard’s arm while he kneed him in the side. With a grunt the man fell to the floor.
Alex and Obsidian stood for a long moment looking down at the twelve guards. They both breathed heavily. The combat had not been hard, but it still worked up a sweat kicking ass.
“That was too easy.” Obsidian said.
“We still haven’t faced what’s up there.” Alex said pointing to a set of metal stairs that rose up the center of the building to a room built into and extended above the main ceiling.
“Fair enough.” She said with a nod.
She walked over to one of the work benches and picked up a container filled with zip ties. She began to go from guard to guard and zip together their hands and feet. Once she finished with the guards, she moved on to the goons that the sonic device had taken out. While she worked on tying the goons up Obsidian checked them for Needle chips.
Alex noticed that the goon who had been dancing when they came in was still oblivious to what was happening around him. He operated his machine like it was just any other day. Alex watched him closely with his hands on his hips while Obsidian walked around behind him flipping bodies and essentially hog tying their arms and legs. Alex couldn’t help but laugh.

Deciding enough was enough Alex walked over to the man. He stood two feet away at the side of his machine for a solid minute with nothing, no reaction whatsoever. He waved his hand in front of the goon’s face and finally he looked up still bobbing his head to the electric music that Alex could now hear coming from the earbuds.
Making a motion like pulling the earbuds out Alex tried to communicate with the man. With his best wordless communications Alex asked the man if he could take out the buds so they could have a word. The goon was not getting it, and finally after three times he pulled the earbuds out. The moment they were free of his ears the goon fainted falling forward and cracking his head on his machine.
Giggling Obsidian turned the man over tethering his wrists and ankles.
“You are scary good at that.” Alex commented.
“Like I’ve said, I’ve got some villain points.” She said with a creepy wink.

“Do you need to use either of your serums?” Alex asked looking at the door that lead to the stairway.
“No sir. I’m locked, loaded and ready to go.” Obsidian said shaking her head.
“I predict that the rest of this fight won’t be as easy.” Alex rolled his head on his shoulders to the wonderful sound of his neck popping loudly.
“Well let’s not be easy either.” Obsidian slammed one of her fists into the other.
“Sometimes I wonder why I didn’t go with the flower child?” Alex said jokingly which earned him a scoff and an eye roll.
They approached the door to the stairs. There was a magnetic locking system that required a keycard, but it with a simple flex Alex was able to destroy the locks. He cautiously opened the door. There was nothing inside waiting for them but the stairs that led upward.
The duo moved slowly up the incline. They tried their hardest to be as quiet as humanly possible as they moved. At the top of the stairs there was a small four-foot landing that had two wooden doors. Each door had a foot squared window at eye level. Well, eye level for Alex. Obsidian had to stand on the tips of her toes in order to see into the room.
The room inside was bathed in a red glow. Not a bright red, but a rust like color. There were six men in the room, but Alex instantly could see why the sixth man was not listed in the drone’s report. He was chained to a chair. They could both see from the window that there was blood running down his nose and coming out of his ears. His head waved around bobbing back and forth like he was having trouble staying conscious. He had been the recipient of some beating.
For a moment Alex thought that it was the sonic device but checking the icon on his HUD he saw that the device had run out of power and was offline. As expensive as both that device and the drone were, he had to remember to collect them when everything was all said and done.
The five threats were some Goldys like they had not seen before. Four of them were dressed like the well-dressed man that they had taken down at the docks. They had suit pants and were wearing nice button-down shirts with suspenders. The major difference was the pounds and pounds of muscles that these strong arms had over the well-dressed man.
The last man was standing with his back to the prisoner. He was wearing a very fine suit that had a very slight dark red tint to it. He held his left hand out and hovering over it flipping end over end was a silver coin. Alex noticed that with every fifth flip or so the coin would catch fire.
Alex assumed that the strong arms were not going to be much harder than the thugs they had faced the day before and there were only four of them. The coin-man however worried him.
“Keep your serums ready. If you want to back down from this fight, I will not hold it against you.” Alex said in a quiet whisper.
“And let you have all the fun, pft, I think not.” Obsidian rolled her eyes. She did, however, pull out the four injectors and equip them in an elastic belt around her thigh so they would be easy to grab in a pinch.
