You know, life can be pretty short. No, I don’t mean in the grand scheme of things. I died when I was 23 years old. Lack of proper self-care. Died doing what I loved. Pretty much nothing important.

However, I saw a strange sight. Balloons and confetti and some strange guy dressed in white.

“Congratulations, you are the 100,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000…000,000,000,000 thing on this planet to die! You get to participate in our special lottery!”

“Um, what?”

The next thing I knew, a strange machine popped up and a ball rolled out. It was golden.

“Oooh! You get to reincarnate into a video game fantasy world! Have fun!”

“Huh?”

Cool, I guess? My luck may have been just for this moment, I would have thought, if I wasn’t trying to wrap my head around the fact that God was a game show host. Then, my vision blanked out and I fell asleep.

And when I woke up, I was a baby, just like in all of those overused web novels.
