《Primal Adaptation》Chapter 29 [Misty Ice -3-]

Basil managed to lug his prize with the last reserves of energy on his body to the cavern. The moss bunny was heavier than he thought it would, or was he weak after days without food? Basil just ignored that question and began to carve the "animal" with his claws, only to be surprised, with layers upon layers of the same moss being the only thing of what consisted the thing, putting apart the core that it had.
Basil, by this point, didn't care and began to eat the whole creature with snow and all. The flavor was bland, and just the core fluids seemed to have some zestiness. Basil didn't eat all the carcass because he didn't know if he was lucky the creature got near his cave and wouldn't see more of them for a while.
There was another reason for his thinking. Basil wanted to see if he could use the body and the remaining part of the core to regenerate Auriz's fragment with it. Auriz always said that she needed Asther to maintain herself. Basil didn't know what that thing was, and he could only experiment for the time being.
So, to see if this could work, Basil took Auriz fragment and put it inside the carcass of the Mohanyul. He knew that Auriz wasn't going to recuperate with this in a short time, but it was an idea at least. Seeing that this could take some time, he put his vision on something else, how to survive this frozen wasteland?
Basil knew that the cold presented a menace for him, and his body didn't have the means or resistances to survive it alone yet. He analyzed the creatures outside and noticed that they were made from the same ice and snow or had a lot of fluff like the white beast, except for the animal he killed, which only had moss as a body.
An idea appeared on Basil's mind at that moment, what if he covered himself in this moss? From what he learned of the information Auriz gave him, plants are weak to cold, but this one was not dying even in this environment. He could survive outside more if that were the case. The problem is that he would need more of those creatures to cover himself completely.
For the moment, he would need to cover his paws that felt cold even inside the cavern. Basil introduced his foot inside the layers of moss and immediately felt a lot better. It was not enough, but it certainly felt better than walking in the snow wholly unprotected.

Basil's creation would be highly crude for someone who had survival skills, but for the little lizard, it was perfect. Basil managed to cover his paws with thick moss and maintain it in place with some small bone spikes around them with some ingenuity. And without further ado, He went to try his new invention.
It was still cold when he touched the snow, but less than before. If Basil manages to cover himself with more moss, maybe he could retain his warmth. The sun helped a little, but Basil wasn't sure it would last or if that mist from the south would cover all the mountain at some point. He needed to act fast.
Basil put his vision to use and searched for more of the moss creatures within the snow actively this time. He localized some white with a lot of green and little sky blue dots. If Basil learned something from his experiences, green spots and lines represented plants, but the sky blue eluded him. If Auriz was with him, he could ask her, but she wasn't right now.
With the information, he managed to gather. Basil pursued the nearest creatures with the same readings as the plant-animal. He failed two times to pounce at the animals because he was too slow in this terrain and didn't have more nutrients on his body to create something else, so he kept trying.
At some point in the afternoon, he got the body of one and dragged it towards the cavern with delight on his face, not without struggle, of course. The Mohanyul managed to defend himself from Basil with its legs, giving him a mild pain in the mouth, and It still confused Basil how these plants were so hardy being what they were.
Anyway, Basil got himself more food, not tasty and filling, but food nonetheless. He cut a portion of the creature inside the hole for heating purposes, and the other, he ate all. Like before, Basil took part from the core and put it where Auriz's fragment was. Basil didn't know if this did something at all, but it was what he could do for now.

"He is finally stable. But why I must suffer his fucking shenanigans." — Rant Evalyne in front of the monitor.
"Wasn't you the one to put him in that situation?" — Mentioned Moraeus, wriggling in his seat.
"... To be truthful, I didn't expect the beacon to call all creatures in that cavern when I did it. What matters now is that Basil is safe."
"Yeah, about that, we should do something to protect him in the following hours. A deadly mist will cover the mountain, and it will freeze anything that doesn't have protection against it." — Said Bik while holding another screen.
"For fuck sake! That little cave won't be a safe spot for him. Isn't there a place where he can protect himself from it?" — Evalyne asked, as her body colors fluctuated irregularly from stress.
"We are looking now, calm down Evalyne." — Voiced Mardok while looking at the map for anything.
That's when Evalyne looked at a place near Basil's cave. It was the culprit for the mist that permeated the mountain but was also the place that could help Basil in this situation.
"Computer what kind of beacons you have?"
"There are at least one million options, depending on the purpose and the species it wants to attract." — The computer contested.
"I should have looked for this first instead of sending a beacon that called all those creatures... Do you have one that can attract the Core Gekkonidae species specifically or at least ones like Basil?" — Inquired Evalyne to the machine.
"There are options available."
"I need the most inconspicuous you have and put it in that place. Also, I will need something else. Send an Asther accumulator for Golemites at the same place." — Said Auriz.
"Order confirmed." — Responded the Computer.
"That's some costly equipment right there, but I suppose it is a good inversion." — Mentioned Moraeus.
"I hope so." — Replied Evalyne with seriousness covering her face.
