ARC 1 - The Advent of Monsters

Prologue – Balance Unbalanced

Alya had had a bad day. Well not really, it was a normal day, the problem being in the “normal” part. She was bored of everything, and tired of having to conform herself to society bindings. It felt like life had no meaning, choking her the way it was. And so she was just… living this masquerade of a life. Only existing. Her true self was a pitiful thing, torn, hidden deep inside… partly repressed, rejected by herself because of society. Cast aside. Forgotten.

And so it was angry. Boiling. Waiting. Bidding it’s time. Ready for violence. And hiding itself from her, quite successfully if one may say so, because while humans occasionally stumbled on the truth, they often picked themselves up and hurried off as if nothing had happened.

Alya was human.

“Be normal!”, “Don’t stand out!”, “Don’t think like this”,… And stuff like this aggravated her. Although it may have looked like teenager’s angst, it was not it. It came from inside, as if a part of her readily disagreed with the world as a whole. The world felt wrong. Everything felt wrong. Even herself. She did not belong, and thus she acted her part out, feeling out of sync with everything. All the while she could feel something akin to unrest growing inside of her. Violent unrest. It did not bide well.

Also, if one may say, the constant nightmares did not help. Not at all. She could not remember them, but each time she woke up, despair and intense longing assailed her senses.

She was no sociopath, actually caring about people (the few that interested her anyways), but she had absolutely no values, no morals, no interest in the world and its people, as well as a deep dislike of society as it was. She was not born this way, no. She was born normal, balanced, but something, SOMETHING in society itself twisted her, eroded her over time. It was tearing her up subtly, but strongly.

Had there been no laws, she might actually have been a scary existence to those she did not care about.

And so, she never had any real fun, nothing to look forward to, no way to canalize her growing frustration, and the constant need to repress her…. inner chaos. Yes, chaos, she called it, for it felt like was an unruly magma of bad thoughts, boiling inside of her, and sometimes slightly erupting. Coloring her thoughts. Making her want to paint the world red. She knew she was slightly unbalanced… She couldn’t ignore it.

Thus, as Alya, 21 years old student, her life was quite bland, and yet restless as something hidden inside kept her on her toes. She did not wish to blow her cover as a nice and uninteresting person.

However, as Kifirin, “tales of fate” player, things would change.

The world would tremble.

From fear.

And she would laugh.
