Chapter 14
I've come across a problem - I'm not a computer. Rather, I should say that I'm incapable of individually giving commands to 1000 other units. Is my APM that low? I can still move everyone in the same direction, but when, at random intervals, I feel parts of myself encountering another cell, I need to slow down all 1000 of us to wait for that one guy to finish digesting. It's quite inefficient to move and do so, so I'm stuck as slowly floating tiny ball that can only hope for the prey to be unlucky enough to run into it.
I already upgraded my glowing capability, but it doesn't really help when the thing you are trying to bait is blind. I'm starting to regret doing so, as now my fears of encountering something I'm not ready to meet, might become a reality. That being said, where is anything larger than a cell? How is it possible to not encounter anything big, after all this time? A question for a different time.
Currently, I'm at 1045 biomass, enough to split a third of us. I'm holding off, though, as I want an approximate knowledge of how many we are, and if I do so now, well, let's just say I'm not that great of a mathematician, not when I have nowhere to write notes on. Much easier to just multiply 1000 by 2. Besides, having a good amount of reserve, in case of emergency, seems like a smart thing to do. Kevin disagrees and calls me resource hog, but what does he know. I don't have any 'build' and 'timings' I need to follow, so I rather am safe than sorry.
I just had an idea! What if I outsource my cell control to Susan? She is great at micromanaging stuff, so it might be easy for her.

Yes! I can already see the improvement. I had to give her partial control and now I have a splitting headache, but it's worth it! We are now operating at optimal capacity. Cells that are consuming something, move to the middle of the ball, while tendril-like cell structures are extended outwards and comb the surroundings. I say structures, but they are just cells stuck close and in line formation. Still, while it seems complex, it doesn't increase the energy consumption that much. I feel like a tentacle monster, straight out of some questionable source material.
Bah, the headache is not really getting better.
I wish the day would come sooner when we can finally leave this fucking pond.
I want to sleep.
It has been so long since the last time I had a good sleep. Currently, I'm only able to drift in thoughts. There is no biological need for sleep and my mind is not really shackled to something like a brain, so it refuses to rest. It can't be good for my mental health.
-20 years later. Or was it hours?-
"Ehh macarena!"
I don't know the rest of the words, so I just hum the melody inside my head. It doesn't help the headache, in fact, it made it worse, but I can't control it. I'm stuck with macarena for the foreseeable future. At least, until the next song comes along.
It's day time, baby! You know what that means - we get to collect some dirt!
Hunting is too inefficient to handle my current needs. In all this time, I was only able to increase the Bob count to 16000. Which is impressive and all, but my headache grew worse with each time, rendering us crippled and unmoving until Susan got used to it. Even then, after the last split, I took back the control and 'enjoyed the scenery' for a few hours to rest. That's where macarena took control and a different kind of headache was on me.

I tried to probe every hour or so and it seems the Sun is now up and running. My power, vast and overwhelming, I was ready to do some digging.
As I descended into the abyss, I relinquished my control to Susan, who split the Bobs in an orderly manner based on sectors. All that's left for me was to internally scream - “sector A1 detonate!” - wait for few seconds, then do the same for sector A2. It takes 3 minutes to go through all sectors, and hour of repair time in between. I can see a problem with doing things this way in the future tho. The sectors will grow in number drastically, while the cell durability remains the same. I might need to sacrifice a few thousand cells in the future, just to be able to dig properly. Using my incredible reasoning skills, I made Kevin solve this problem by the time a solution is needed. He was not particularly happy, but that's now his problem.
Finally, I will have someone else to blame, if we manage to fuck up this whole operation.

His father King Bohemond and his mother Queen Renata were killed by the usurper Rancine, who is the current ruler of his home in the Middle Islands. Beaumont left the Middle Islands as a baby and everything he knows of his home is from stories and books. All that changes when a stranger from the Middle Islands, a woman named Nasila, arrives to inform him that Rancince has learned of his location and he is no longer safe. In order to protect the home he has grown to love, Beau must travel out of Hattan and journey to the Middle Islands to seek safety among people loyal to his father that he has never met. He must put his trust in Nasila and a hired warrior named Gavin with questionable motivations. He is afraid and unprepared to take the crown, but at least his cousin Julius is with on this harrowing journey fraught with assassins, wild mythical beast, black magic, and demons. His cousin is the only person he can truly trust, but he must take a chance and put his life in the hands of others if he plans to survive. ***This is the first long-length writing I have ever undertaken, and I wish to get some critical feedback. I am not professionally trained as a writer but I have tried my best to teach myself and make the chapters as clean as possible. I believe I have reached a point where my limited skills cannot improve the work or make any more corrections. It is very difficult to show this work, but if I do not, I fear I will never improve and learn. So here it is. To anyone who lends the time to read all of this and any of my chapters. Thank you.

Dauntless: Origins
Snow white hair, blue eyes, pale. Devil, monster, mutt, failure. This story follows one Tyr Faeron, crown prince, heir primus and mass murderer. A wrathful, angry, and lost young man that has made it his goal to hunt down the men that killed his mother - and he is on the cusp of finishing the promise he'd made before her cairn stones so many years ago. On the surface he is duplicitous, whimsical, and base of cunning - but within the depths beyond the many masks he wears, something is waiting. Waiting for an end, the end he'd come to long for, whether it be to himself or any possible threats in his vicinity. After that long labor of vengeance is completed... Nobody knows, not even him - an arrogant and otherwise solitary individual with nothing in the way of friends - only the brothers of the blackguard who follow him through life as he pursues this mission. He was born a prince, but he'd be called a disappointment - failing to manifest the great power that he was born to before being summarily discarded by his father, a 250 year old 'primus'. That word again... Men who can shatter mountains and level cities, that's what he was supposed to be. Some call them demi-gods, all Tyr sees is a poor excuse for a parent. Time had made him bitter, cruel, and arguably psychotic - seeing only enemies wherever he looks. They'd come for him, too, one day - to wipe the slate clean and make room for another - and it's his conviction to ensure that he dies while taking as many of those rats with him. This is a story about finding acceptance, growth, and understanding - from the point of view of a cold and brutal individual who wears many masks. Of someone who was born to be the greatest emperor the eastern continent has ever seen - but he failed in that. Strong, yes, but only in the context of a man - Tyr's magic is weak. His convictions are weak. He has been made a beast of instinct by loss and a constant confronting of his own impotency in the face of his father. A mythos that stretches across planes, of magic, a pantheon of cruel gods. Of someone who's dedicated his entire mind to the art of killing a man, and none to living a normal childhood or coming to understand friendship, empathy, or compassion. The first five years of his life a mystery, a hole none have ever been willing to fill, leaving him warped and twisted. His formative years gone and what must've been most of his humanity along with it. Now 17, he is on the cusp of leaving the city he'd never been permitted to leave for what might be the first time in his life. Always searching, though he won't know what for, for some time. An episodic that follows experience and symbolism rather than a never ending series of battles - where the conflict lay in constantly searching for wholeness in lieu of great villains or heroes. This is where it all started, the origin, the tale told a million times - and yet it hadn't been, 'reality' is tricky like that. The greatest lie ever told by the tongue that speaks is that any of this was real at all.
