《A Broken World [Dropped Pending Rewrite]》Chapter Thirteen - A Powerless World

Lucas was brought back to reality by the sound of a horn and shouting outside, then he was slammed into the wall as the carriage suddenly changed direction.
“I have not done anything but been tossed around and injured since I arrived here,” Lucas muttered, cradling his bound shoulder. “What is going on now?”
The person called “Lady Versi” had opened the panel between the cabin and the driver and whatever she was told drained the blood from her face. If he was honest, Lucas was less concerned about her and what was going on, then he was concerned about why he wasn’t concerned. He generally thought of himself as a polite, safety and civil minded person, relatively anyway. For whatever reason though, he had less fear than anger and less interest in his own welfare than was normal.
...And he keeps drifting off into his own thoughts, Lucas shook his head to clear it. “What is going on?”
“It’s a demonic War Group.” Lady Versi replied through clenched teeth. Hearing this Terrasin paled as well making them look like a pair of ghosts, though admittedly quite pretty ones.
“...Which is?” Lucas asked when no further information was forthcoming.
“Demons are,” Terrasin spoke hesitantly, appearing to choose her words carefully. “Mostly unintelligent, little more than beasts.”
“But not all of them are, correct?” Lucas understood the implication of her phrasing immediately.
“Correct, but the more intelligent demons generally do not work with others of their kind.” Terrasin appeared more terrified than when that other monster had ripped off the carriages roof. “War Group’s are different. Our first records of them are from nine hundred years ago, groups of highly intelligent demons working together and controlling lesser demons to fight for them.”

“They have been becoming more common over the years, but I never would have foreseen…” Lady Versi muttered.
A massive explosion sounded from behind them and the carriage rocked slightly.
“The driver has said that the majority of our escort had diverted to delay the Group.” Versi had apparently steeled her resolve, “The last few mages transferred their stamina to the carriages horses, we will have no choice but to run without stopping.”
Lucas read between the lines, their escort could apparently do little more than die when facing such a foe. Of course, all Lucas could do was run. The uneasy feeling of powerlessness was new to Lucas, and gritting his teeth in the back of the speeding carriage, he decided it was the worst feeling of all.

Of Men and Dragons, Book 1
Book 1 is now available on Kindle, or in paperback/hardcover! You can buy it here! Jack crash-landed on a planet where the natives are seven-foot-tall carnivorous cat-lizards currently somewhere between stone and bronze age. The good news is the natives think the ship that crashed into their mountain is a dragon and are steering clear of it. The bad news is they just left one of their own as a sacrifice to appease the beast. No matter what Jack and his AI co-pilot decide, his life just got a lot more complicated... ATTENTION: This is soft sci-fi rather than hard sci-fi, hence why I chose that tag. For those of you unfamiliar with the distinction, here's what Wikipedia had to say. 1. It explores the "soft" sciences, and especially the social sciences (for example, anthropology, sociology, or psychology), rather than engineering or the "hard" sciences (for example, physics, astronomy, or chemistry). 2. It is not scientifically accurate or plausible; the opposite of hard science fiction. Soft science fiction of either type is often more concerned with character and speculative societies, rather than speculative science or engineering. The term first appeared in the late 1970s and is attributed to Australian literary scholar Peter Nicholls.

Concentrate and ask again… [Note: Steve Conary here, just wanted to let everyone know this is a new version of the old story. It is written by me. Nothing shady is going on. Sorry for not announcing things better I guess.]
8 100Our Chaoz; Our Reality (Completed)
Everyone has their own reasons, be it past events, personality or simply company. But most at some point divulge themselves into videogaming, be it for entertainment or more compettitive reasons. In this year and age there are many genres of gaming, one specific genre though still holds on tight to the ledge it was pushed to trying to pull itself back up. MMORPGs were once the top of everybody's list, adventure, combat, storytelling and endless grind in one single game. It was a different life for most, as if a parallel world to our own. You could be a knight indulging yourself in combat, a mage expertly crafting spells of mass destruction or creation. A ranger exploring the land and hunting down prey, an assassin completing contracts and hording the spoils. A troll scamming children out of their hard earned 10 gold and making more hardcore players rage quit for the day. Or something else. Kyle was a simple player, he always picked the strangest classes or jobs and his characters almost looked the same. He played for the combat, he played for the grind and he played for his guild but above all he played for the story. Kyle is a roleplayer, one who enjoys the simple parts of this virtual life. Whether his guild was starting a war or ending one he'd always have his drammatic entrence or exit, his decleration of annihalition or demand of surrender. After all that? He divulged himself in the game's story, the interaction with NPCS (Non Player Characters) and their advanced AI. He went through many questlines, many tales of heroics and many more adventurers of legend but one thing always remained true with his character. Kyle absolutely loved to the play the villain. But when game turns reality, what will he and his guild of twisted personalities do?
