Yuehao and Jimeng were both of the 388th batch, and they are both 3-star cultivators.
“So, brother Jimeng. As both 3-star cultivators, we should have a practice match. Two items, no pills or supplements, you and me. A straight-fight.”
Jimeng bowed. “Indeed. Indeed. I’ve looked forward to the day I can exchange pointers.”
They were gathered in a small empty ring next to their block. Some of their batch had come to watch the first 2 3-star cultivators have a practice match. Winner of this batch would gain the right to be the de-facto leader of their batch.

Ma Yuehao nodded. He unsheathed his Soul-bound weapon, the 3-star Sword of the Tiger. It adds 50 extra Qi to every attack, so that meant all his attacks were stronger.
Zhen Jimeng also nodded, he held his soul-bound weapon, the 3-star Spear of the Horned Goat. It added 2,000 Core Endurance.
“Well, brother Jimeng, shall we get started?”
“Indeed. First to surrender?”
They both nodded, and they both used a Qi leap to close in to each other. They were now both in striking distance, both unleashed a Longbow Bow Style - Claw Attack, and their two weapons clashed.
They both used the same amount of QI! It temporarily balanced, but then, Yuehao’s weapon added extra Qi to every attack, and instantly, Jimeng was forced back.

“Well, brother Jimeng.” Yuehao smiled, satisfied that he won that first exchange. “I believe you should have a little bit more power in your attack.”

Jimeng frowned. His weapon added to his toughness, and taking some damage was well within his plans. But he didn’t expect it to hurt. There were some ladies watching, the other female batchmates.
Jimeng leaped back, this time he wasn’t going to hold back. He unleashed the Longbow Junior Bow Style’s ultimate attack, the Heavy Stab, for 500 Qi. Yuehao had activated his Longbow Holding stance, and then revealed his 2nd item, the Qi-Iron Buckler, and then used his Blocking Stance for 400 Qi..
Heavy Stab [ 500Qi x 1.6 x 1.5] = 1,200
Blocking Stance [450 Qi (50 extra from Qi Iron Buckler] x 2 x 1.6] = 1,440
The heavy Stab landed, but did no damage! Yuehao’s attack didn’t work!

“That item!” Jimeng frowned. The Qi-Iron bucker added 50 Qi to his block!
“I suggest brother Jimeng choose a different soul-bound item. The Qi-leap boots will not be very useful in human combat.” Yuehao smiled, but in truth, he had overspent Qi. He could have used 325 Qi and still blocked that attack clearly! But he wasn’t about to reveal his inaccurate estimate.
Jimeng attacked again, this time with another Qi Heavy Stab for 700Qi. Ma Yuehao smiled, and did the same. Their two attacks clashed midair, but once again it was Jimeng that was beaten back.

The pain just provoked Jimeng’s fury to go up. He didn’t understand why he was losing.
“Brother Jimeng, do not underestimate the Holding Stance.” Yuehao gloated.
“Screw that.” Jimeng said, and attacked again, once more with Heavy Stab. This time, he maxed out his Qi output to his limit. Yuehao smiled and just did the same move as before.

Jimeng attacked again. Once more, repeated the Heavy Stab to the limit. They were both at 3-stars, why was he losing?
This time, Yuehao increased his Qi output to his limit. He had 3 more powered moves to the Holding Stance.

“Ugh.” Jimeng groaned and the move’s Qi attacked his body and core. It really hurt! 3,000 damage to his core, and he had used so much Qi.
“Did you not master the holding stance, brother Jimeng?” Yuehao smiled.
Truth was, Jimeng immediately dismissed the holding stance as useless, and instead just kept practicing Heavy Stab. That’s why he didn’t use it, he just didn’t expect the holding stance’s effects to be so dramatic in battle!
And his choice of the Qi Boots, indeed, that wasn’t a good one!
“Shall we do that again?”
Jimeng groaned. He had to try again, and they both attacked each other with full-powered Heavy Stab.
