Chapter 3-The Gas Station
It took him another 30 minutes to get out of the forest, but Eric didn’t know as his digital watch didn’t display anything.
‘Those pocket watches and big grandfather clocks should still work. Too bad they aren’t easy to come by nowadays.’ His grandparents had such a clock in their living room, and his grandfather still actively used his pocket watch, but other than them Eric had never seen anyone one of those.
Eric moved his thoughts away from family as he had to focus on his own survival and can only hope that they survived. Seeing a broken of branch on the ground Eric picked it up, it. was about as tall as him. He figured in a few hours he might be able to cast magic, so he will need a wizard’s staff.
Though Eric doubts that a random stick found on the ground would work well in that regard. He could always use it to hit an attacking creature or if the wolves returned throw the staff in the hopes they would chase after it. Only his strength is so low that he couldn't really injure any creature like the horse wolves, or if the wolves liked to play fetch, they would simply bring the stick back to him before eating him.
‘Yeah, that won’t help, still, better than nothing.’
Upon exiting the forest, Eric sees a gas station. Beyond the gas station there is more forest, so It turns at that he didn’t leave the forest, he simply stumbled on upon the road with a gas station going through the forest.
Incredulously Eric thinks ‘Really…… a gas station, what is this a bad story where the author couldn’t come up with something more original. Not like I am complaining though.’

Eric was exhausted and simply wanted to sleep. As such he did not see that the sign for the gas station read “Open 24/7” and there was still a truck parked at the store.
Inside the store was dark as expected, luckily the windows were big and there was a full moon in the sky, giving off just enough light to see in the dark. Opening the door, he hears the doorbell go off. Which wakes him up enough to realize that if there is a creature in the area then it probably heard that.
Promptly groaning could be heard from his left. In fear Eric jumps to the right holding his staff infront of himself. He sees a zombie behind the counter that is climbing over the counter in a very clumsy and uncoordinated manner.
Before Eric can truly think of what is happening adrenaline pumps through his system, he raises his staff, rushes forward and whacks the zombie on the head. The zombie, falling off the counter hitting head first on the floor lets out a grown which sounds to Eric like a painful zombie groan. The zombie is eager to get up and presumably attack Eric, so Eric continues to hit the zombie with all his strength. After a dozen hits or so hits the zombie's head is completely split open and doesn’t move anymore. Looking at the zombie Eric notices that he is wearing what looks to be the uniform of the gas station, making this probably the clerk who worked here.
‘I just smashed a head to mush, the head of someone who was once human.’ The sudden realization of what he did causes Eric to throw up the contents of his stomach. After reaching for a while a question posp into Erics mind.
‘Wait, if he was a human, what turned him into a zombie? And where is it?’

“Uuuhhhhhh..”
The groaning from behind makes Eric want to jump to the side, but he stumbles and falls sideways, dodging the attack of another zombie, this one seemingly faster than the first. Before he can move away from his spot on the floor the zombie grabs his ankle and pulls on it, yanking Eric towards him. Somehow Eric manages to swing his staff towards the head of this zombie at the same moment, adding the strength of the zombie’s yank to his swing, hitting the zombie on the head.
The zombie lets go of Eric’s ankle, but not before leaving gash on Eric’s leg, luckily due to the adrenalin, Eric doesn’t feel any pain, at least yet. As the zombie stumbles backwards Eric has just enough time to get up off the floor. At which point the zombie is already moving towards him, using his staff Eric tries to push the zombie away, but the zombie is stronger than Eric and keeps getting closer. Trying to back up Eric stumbles over his own feet and falls hard onto the ground. The zombie not have expected this trips himself and falls past Eric crashing into a stand of ropes, entangling himself in them. By the time Eric gets up the zombie still hasn’t freed himself making the next part easy.
Holding his staff with both hands Eric uses his entire body to start whacking the zombie in the head. At the start, his hit barely seem to faze it but being entangled in all the rope prevents the zombie from attacking Eric. After about two dozen hits this zombie stops moving and groaning.
The adrenaline of the fight now starting to drain out of Eric and his previous trek through the forest after escaping those wolves he can barely keep his eyes open, but Eric knows simply collapsing on the ground now would probably invite monsters to attack him. The lack of adrenaline also causes Eric to feel the wound on his leg, but is far too exhausted to care about it.
Eric slowly stumbles towards the back, his only focus being finding a door that he can close behindhimself so he can sleep, the pain from his leg keeping him awake nough to search. He finds what looks to be a break room for employees, happy to find that not only does the door lock from the inside, it also seems to be some heavy-duty door that gives the impression of being difficult to force your way through. After locking the door Eric zones in on the couch and proceeds to pass out.

Supervillain
The world is broken and rotten. It's supposed defenders are too weak willed to do what is necessary. It's leaders are too corrupt to care for those beneath them If they wont fix this world, then I will! I will make the world a better place ..... by any means necessary! Nice to meet you all. My name is Ginobi47. A lurker of fanfiction.net and now a writer of original fic. This is my first original work and I do hope you enjoy it! Do remember that this is a fiction in the Superhero genre. Please expect the craziness that goes along with it. NOTE: English is not my maiden language. AUTHOR'S NOTE: As I went through the other fictions of Royal Road, I noticed that my style of writing style (slow release, 1 big post) doesnt work well in this site. As such, I'll be experimenting on releasing smaller chapters more often, as this seems to be how the authors of Royal Road does things. Mind you, my release speed will still be very slow compared to others, but I'll churn out chapters more often than what I used to do. DISCORD SERVER: https://discord.gg/M7bmjTH ANOTHER NOTE: Some of my readers convinced me to set up a discord server. While I have absolutely no idea what to do in a discord server, but if you're interested, just join in and go nuts. Suggest some storylines or characters, seek advice in just about anything or tell me your deepest darkest secret (you can PROBABLY trust me ^.^). Feel free to do whatever is fun

Hazelsong: A LitRPG Novel
Release Schedule: I will be moving to a set release schedule as of 1/1/2022. A new chapter will be released every Saturday at Noon EST. If I have time that week for a second chapter, I will leave a note on the Saturday chapter and post the second chapter on Sunday at Noon EST. An up to date character sheet for the MC Erik will also be posted on Sundays at 12:15 PM. If life happens and I am for some reason unable to write that week, I will post a blank chapter giving you an update on where I am with my writing. Saturday Noon EST: First weekly chapter Sunday Noon EST: Second weekly chapter (if I have the time) Sunday 12:15 EST: Updated character sheet Synopsis: Years after surviving a deadly accident, Erik struggles to come to terms with his painful disability. When offered the chance to playtest the world's first full immersion VRMMO, he wants nothing more than to retreat back into his secluded life, until he learns what Hazelsong really offers. An escape from the pain. Hazelsong is a world of magic and adventure, a place where friendships are formed, loot is won, and glory and fame are there for the taking. While the threats feel real and the stakes are always high, there is only one thing Erik is really in danger of. Forgetting which world is actually real. Story Themes: Hazelsong is a LitRPG novel that not only explores the fictional world of a realistic online fantasy realm but the life of a man suffering in silence from chronic pain and PTSD due to a significant physical injury and disability. Mental health is an important subject and we all know at least one person in our lives who has or is dealing with some form of mental illness. I plan on putting my best effort forward to represent these illnesses in a fair and accurate manner. Not as a cheap plot device to help make the protagonist more unique, but to help paint an accurate picture for those of us who have been lucky enough to not have to suffer in silence. About the Author: I am Ash Durra, general video game nerd and a connoisseur of fantasy and sci-fi of all shapes and sizes. Needless to say, I am not a professional author (B.S. and M.S. in Education, 8 years teaching). After really getting into LitRPG novels over the past several years, I found my way to Royal Road, which has inspired me to use my spare time to begin writing a story of my own creation. As this is a hobby, I am not writing and posting chapters on any kind of specific schedule at the moment, though my goal is to post on average 1-2 chapters a week. I am incredibly excited to share this story with others as I write it, and I look forward to any constructive feedback about how I can improve in my writing.

Sweet Minds
"No one can see it, some can feel it, and only the few can use it. We belong to the few." Marith Merryfield felt anything but merry that morning. She found herself waiting for a delayed train on a deserted platform, in the freezing cold of the Dutch autumn. Just when the strangeness is making her consider turning around and going back home an empty train rolls into the station. For reasons unclear to this day she decides to get onboard. An unlikely, and quite impossible, train accident is about to hurtle her into a world she had always suspected existed. It was a dark and absurd place she had rejected and suppressed when she was young. Now she would need that dormant part of herself to survive. After a brief hospitalization she must choose between two continents and finds herself reluctantly boarding a plane to Oregon to be reunited with her shadows. She returns to the town she grew up in, which is where her father still lives and her childhood memories linger. By the end of the week the mysterious train accident turns out to be the least of her problems. Her life was never supposed to become this serious this fast. Through an improbable and unfortunate series of events she is soon introduced to a motley crew of characters that appear to be carrying the same struggles through life. They possess a familiar sense of inadequacy and insecurity. Marith realizes that for the first time in her life she has found herself a tribe, or, as they prefer to call it, a Chain. She is introduced to a world of Prophets, Runners and Mages led by an Oracle and a Watchmaker. Over the course of several weeks Marith learns that, together with her Chain, she is expected to save this fabric of reality, by fighting a mysterious and immortal creature and his aggressive pet. In order to have a chance at overcoming this force of nature she has to revisit the darkest and most desolate corners of her mind. ***** The total word count of the first 12 chapters amounts to about 85.000 words. The total word count of the first 30 chapters will amount to about 225.000 words. My chapters range, roughly, from 5.000 to 10.000 words. I post with irregular intervals, on random days and at different times. I hope you will enjoy the story! English is not my first language and I am very much open to constructive criticism. Disclaimer: I regularly use impressionistic or abstract language on purpuse, when I think it might benefit the story.
