Chapter Forty-Seven

I blocked a kick with my forearms, shoving his leg out of my way and shifting to sidekick him in the ribs with my booted foot. The impact was like kicking a concrete post. I’d definitely landed a solid strike, but it didn’t do jack shit.

The amused Syldrari gracefully flipped his grip on his sword and punched me in the gut with the same hand, the sword’s pommel thankfully missing my ribs. Even so, I crumpled to the ground, struggling for air, as he contemplated what to attempt next.

We had returned to our ‘private’ communication methods due to the cameras inside the facility reconnecting—something he could apparently hear or see.

“Mmm… You are certainly more resilient now, Salaith-daiyr,” Jysel remarked, crouching so he was down at my level. “I do dislike hurting someone what they’re down, but if this is to be convincing…”

I told you to go all out, do go all out, I retorted bitterly.

His foot connected with my stomach, lifting me into the air and sending me tumbling. I struggled, trying to get up, when a piercing sound rang through my skull, making my vision go black momentarily.

When I recovered, it took my eyes a moment to fully focus on what I was seeing.

Jysel stood over me, the tip of his sword pressed over my heart, his expression utterly emotionless. “I could kill you right now. Why have you not fallen?”

I won’t let Kuhir-dal control me, it isn’t… I winced as the weapon dug against my chest stopped only by the incredible resistance of the suit

“Then I will make the Kuhir-dal come play. If you are going to survive…” Jysel trailed off, seemingly unwilling to state what he was planning, instead, he raised his sword, his expression still that eerie emotionless mask.

He swung down with full force toward my throat, and a fount of rage erupted within me. My senses went blank .
