《Greenskin》Chapter 12 - Not A Meaty Chapter

Steal groggily arose in it's box to the powerful, aromatic smell of meat.
The little goblin kicked it's feet at the door, the rather light wood flung open and bright sunlight beamed into the front half of Steal's box. A distinct pain washed through the goblin's brain and hurt his eyes as the brightness smothered him. The little creature pulled himself back into the box, closed his eyes and began to open them slowly, easing himself into the light.
His black, over-sized and beady eyes narrowed as the goblin wriggled free of the box, clambering to his feet and searching rather desperately for the source of that DELICIOUS aroma. The fire was roaring again in the center of the camp. above it a long spit, skewered with dozens of hunks of fresh, red flesh.
The goblin plodded his way towards the fire, where five hobgoblins sat, yelling loudly and chomping on juicy meat. Each violent bite sent sprays of juice and fat bursting from their fanged mouths. "Food?" The goblin simply asked when it made it to the gathering of feasting hobgoblins, it's answer was as simple as it was silent, a hunk of meat the size of the little goblin's head was tossed into it's open hands. Aromatic juices leaking from the hot meat. The starving creature wolfed down the first meal it had ever had in it's short life, making disgusting, ugly noises as it chomped and slurped on it's food.
It was a mere few seconds until all that remained of the massive chunk of flesh was nothing but a thick, stringy length of fat that was stuck between it's teeth. Even that was dragged down to his swelling, grumbling stomach as his calloused, sharp tongue freed the fat from it's crooked teeth. Delighted, the creature yipped with joy, doing a little, clumsy dance. Steal sat down with the others, listening in on the chattering hobgoblins as it thought to itself, on occassion it noticed the odd glance, but he was a foreigner, a new member of their tribe. It was expected.

Nevertheless, the little goblin kept thinking to itself, remembering the previous night and the mention of an 'Unlock List'. Steal murmured to itself, so as not to disturb the rest "Unlock" though yet again it sounded more along the lines of "Ulak" to any listening to his words.
Unlock List
Unlock Points Available: 1
Goblin Unlocks Available: 3
Tough Hide
Unnerving Malice
Fleet-Of-Foot
Steal nodded in confirmation as it began to understand how this 'unlock' system worked, it wasn't just the list but an understanding of how unlocks worked that came into it's mind. It would seem that every five levels in any job or class it had, it would gain a new unlock point and another few traits and skills it could choose from. Now the little goblin went through the unlocks he had, digging for more detailed information other than just his available unlocks names.
Tough Hide (Trait)
Many creatures of the world have tough hides, far bettter than the paperthin skin of humanity.
Each level of Tough Hide grants +3 Armor Rating.
Unnerving Malice (Trait)
There are old tales and superstitions that 'killing intent' and malice can be felt, perhaps it is not merely superstition
Unnerving Malice causes all creatures within ten feet to feel unnerved by the user.
Decreases all other creatures Defuff Resist by 10% against Fear caused by the user.
Fleet-Of-Foot (Trait)
Some creatures are capable of being as fast on their feet as they are nimble.
Increases user's movement speed by 5% per Level of Fleet-Of-Foot.
Grants +1 DEX, +1 AGI for each Level of Fleet-Of-Foot.
Steal continued to nod along to himself as he read through his choices. Perhaps it would be a good idea for him to focus on survival, just as he always had so far. But he wasn't sure what the best choice was, making others uncomfortable around him didn't seem like a great idea, and he had no idea how he could inflict 'Fear' either. Tough Hide seemed like a good choice, making him more durable in combat, but then Steal thought of all the times he had wanted to run and realised he likely wasn't fast enough, the desperation he felt when he was forced to fight rather than run like he wished he could...

New Trait Gained: Fleet-Of-Foot
The goblin grinned a little, happy that it had acquired it's first trai-
"GYAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA!!!"
Steal cried out in pain as shocks ran up his body, his bones ached and his flesh felt like it was alight, blazing. The hobgoblins merely sat there, watching him, they had been through this before and were aware of what was happening. The pain ebbed away after one last burst of suffering.
"What did you pick?" Drekai had been watching him from among the group, moving forward with an extended hand to pick the little one up. Steal took her hand when the pain had finally gone, making an effort to put on the same toothy grin he'd been shown nearly a dozen times by the hobgoblin tribe.
"Fleet-Of-Foot, makes me go quick"
Another voice, this one manly and gruff, Grak's spoke up from behind Steal "Thank Evon, you couldn't keep up last time... Speaking of hunting, it's time you learn a better way to help, come with me.
Steal tagged along, he was happy enough now that he'd ate. Already he felt like he was much lighter on his feet, which made the hour long trek that Grak forced the goblin to go on a little bit easier.

Cheep!?
Charles Monroe survived the disappearance of his parents, did his best to hold things together for himself and his sister. He survived when she, too, vanished, leaving behind nothing but a cryptic note. He was devastated, but he kept moving forward as best he could. Cancer didn’t put him down, and after suffering through several rounds of chemotherapy, Charles Monroe thought that things might finally be looking up. That is, until a virulent strain of ebola swept through the city. With his immune system strained as it is, the odds don’t look good for Charles. Now, on the bridge between life and death, he hears a voice claiming to know where his family went. It claims that it needs his help and that it can give him a second life, one far away from all the pain he’s ever known. So, Charles answers as any reasonable person would. He says no. Charles isn't ready or willing to die yet. But, as with everything else to this point, even his choice to keep fighting is taken from him all too soon. With no other option but the dark oblivion of death, Charles chooses to make a deal with the spirit of a distant world that's seeking a wild card in its battle against the gods, monsters, and mortals that threaten its existence. Someday, he’ll find where his family went. Someday, he’ll uphold his end of the bargain and hunt beings powerful beyond anything he’s ever known. Someday, he might even – hatch? “CHEEP!?” Things to Know: -Cheep!? Will release on a minimum weekly schedule. -After a backlog of chapters, posting will slow, but in the interim you can expect a chapter a day up until roughly 25 chapters. -This story at times will potentially carry some heavy moments, but the tone is intended to be lighter overall. -There are invisible game-like elements in this story, but nothing so concrete as a dedicated gamelit novel. -I personally have some issues with anxiety, so I may or may not interact with the community a lot. I'll try if anyone has questions, but I can't guarantee that it'll be consistent. -MC is a non-human lead, and will never actually become human. Romance will potentially happen between side-characters, but not with the MC. -MC IS NOT THE ONLY VIEW POINT. I have to put that out there because people sometimes hate alternate PoV's in a story. None of them will be filler, and they'll be there only to give a little bit more nuance and meaning to the world that the MC has stepped in, or is about to be imminently important. I'll try to keep them down, but this also helps to prevent me from burning out getting trapped in one view. -Most of all, I hope that this story is enjoyable to you, and that you have a great time reading it! -Written by Michael Adams, Cowritten/Edited by Summer Kent

Ars Magica
Our vision comes back into focus. Our eyes, while being able to perceive the immediate surroundings, still leave us with our minds uncomprehending towards what is actually occurring. Sure, there are definitive things that we can focus on, like the fact that we're either out upon the open sea or the open ocean, there not being much of a difference with no land in sight, as well as the fact that we appear to be upon a haphazardly constructed metal boat, whose seams are barely able to keep a hold of themselves in the crashing waves. However, that does not let us understand what exactly is causing the waves in the first place. If we were to rewind time, we'd find ourselves upon a calm sea under a peaceful sky with the only difference, being a small whirlpool that would be the precursor towards this uproar around the boat. Lightning flashes in the sky, with no clouds being near, and anyone actually manning the boat has either died towards the cause of the smashing tides in the first place, or are fighting amongst the flashes of lightning, all while trying not to become devoured, demolished, and utterly decimated by the beast roiling in the whirling waves. To better understand exactly what is happening here, there is one singular event that needs to be understood, that needs to be explained, and that is the arrival of a creature named Dave. Stepping back from current events and going towards this creature's first appearance in the world, we begin to hear the sound of water slowly dripping across rocky ground. The cavern is utterly silent except for this one constant, its cause feeding channels downwards, sloping towards cracks in the rubble along the floor from broken stalagmites and stalactites. And there, lying on top of something which had fallen over recently, judging from its cracks, is a person, the creature named Dave. His form is fast asleep, either from the impact or from an intoxication, judging from the smell upon its breath. A bright light suffuses into it for a second, giving life towards the pale skin, before it slowly dies down back to the comfortable black of the cave that it's within. Before this moment in time, Dave did not exist in the physical world. At least, not in the reality that he finds himself born into. We do not know whether or not his existence is simply a cosmic joke, or something that is being played out on purpose. All that we do know, is that one moment, the body was not in the cave, and simply formed in the next. The actual earliest time that we know Dave exists, is the interpolation of the memories of J-209, which we'll begin looking into shortly to gain context towards the coming narrative that is being written and hastily trying to keep itself written. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Warning: This story has several things which might turn its readers away. The first is that this story has shifting points of perspective. Don't worry about that previous sentence too much though, as the main character will always have a first person perspective associated with them. However, any other character from which we're viewing the story from will either be in third-person, as we are not necessarily in their shoes at the moment, or in first person, given that the narrator is an actual physical presence within the story. For the most part, chapters will be self-contained with their perspectives, so there will not be an abundance of switching perspectives within the same chapter. The most that an average reader would have to worry about is the fact that perspectives can switch between chapters. The second thing is that the main character is a bit on the 'special' side of things. He's not exactly mentally there most of the time, so there will be some times that his personality or his thoughts do not actively align with his actions. The third, and final thing of importance, is the fact that past the first couple of chapters, nothing has been planned in advance. There are arcs and plots that I want to do, want to implement, or have already been set into motion from our main character's introduction to the world, but the method that I use for my story writing and generating leads towards a bit more random chance being enabled. Basically...there's a lot of dice rolling behind the scenes. To not complicate the story further than its regular LitRPG elements, the rolls will not be publicly available. However, there will be knowledge within the author's notes on whether or not there were positive or negative critical rolls that had occurred within the chapter. You have been warned. Updates: Mondays & Fridays (Schedule permitting) Typical Chapter Length: (2,000-3,000)

Almave
Welcome to AlmaVé. First thing you have to know is that it's a tragedy. Nope, not talking about my book yet. It's a tragedy that you're reading this instead of clicking on chapter 1. I did fail speech introductions after all. My story? Right that's what you're here for. My bad, try this: Lilia Hammond is reborn (cliché, but we all know we enjoy it when it's done for a purpose) as Syndra Sanmey. She was a graphic designer who hadn't caught her break yet. She was paralyzed for months before she was offered the opportunity to join a program that would allow her to-NOPE! not virtual reality. The doctors killed her and dumped her body. Tough. In her new world, Lilia has to fight herself to find out who she truly is. With the possibility to cast magic and a second chance at life, Lilia thinks she can really make something for herself. Her goal? Become the greatest artist the world had ever seen. The rub? World is a bit darker than anything she saw on earth. Thankfully, Lilia is getting quite familiar with the darkness inside her and her magic might just be the thing to save the-hey! wait it's not that kind of book. No saving the world. No hero syndrome. Just magic and blood and a bit of crafting. Yup. Fighting. Romance? Eh? What's that? The first arc is Lilia's shift from Earth to creating backstories for the three major characters. It's not funny and light. It's often dark and funny. Ah, I really should have gone through a punk-rock phase. Or goth. Would I look good with black hair? Hmm.. There are three MCs and they are Jackson, Daryl, and Lilia/Syndra. Daryl is currently kidnapped and Jackson just awakened his magic. I don't want to spoil (much) but soon things will be very fun to write. Hope to see you there! Leave a comment even if you're just stopping by so I can say hey! Chapters to be published twice weekly.
