《Sword Immortal's Rebirth》Chapter 6: Birthday Ceremony (1)

A maid watched on dumbfounded as the little boy in front of her swallowed dishes at the speed of light. Even though he looked like an 8-year-old child, he had only lived for exactly one year. As the prince was born 6 years after his sister, even though his chances of surviving the struggle for the throne were small, his efforts would certainly inspire an onlooker to begin supporting him.
After cleaning up the dishes in front of him, he coolly asked, “Ah, such a scrumptious meal came to such a quick end, what a pity! Could you please ask the chef to bring me more servings?”
“Y-Yes, Sir prince!” The maid ran off with the dishes. Meanwhile, Heifeng Jiansui began exercising to aid his digestion. Today was one of the few days when such a top-class meal was allowed for his eating pleasure and he was not going to waste it. After five minutes, the maid returned with a huge tray of food and he immediately dug in.
Half an hour and 5 servings passed by before he felt satiated. There were 2 hours left for his birthday celebrations, and he had a sword to refine. He hadn’t forged his companion sword yet.

“This was uncharacteristically smooth”. The boy swung around a beautiful, nine-colored blade. Every swing caused a nine-colored light to flash. The array lines on the blade’s edge caused a keen cutting sensation to flash. It was the most exquisite blade forged by him in this life.
“I suppose this attempt was good enough, though it is still a high-grade Mortal Rank sword. I need a top-grade at worst for my Sword Spirit Infusion… That said, carry around this sword on my hip certainly gives off a dominating air. Well, now that there is only a single hour left, it is time to get dressed up…” Just then, Chanlong Yue rushed into the room.
“It’s an hour for your birthday celebration and you aren’t ready yet?! Let us get your clothes off and dress you up… What, where is this smell coming from? Did even bath this week? Such a horrible smell… looks like you need a good old-fashioned scrubbing!”

This incident ended with our supreme reincarnator horribly embarrassed after a thoroughly invasive cleansing.

In a large, decorated hall, Heifeng Jiansui was clad like royalty, black robes with a red seal on the back. With a sword sheathed on his hip and traditional wooden shoes, he seemed to be a 13 year old prince, newly awakened to his royal responsibilities. An air of maturity emanated from him, and all these factors combined made it impossible for a bystander to think that this boy was only one year old.
Before him, the entire guest list was sitting together in a perfectly arranged chair formation. The King was sitting in a majestic chair, close to yet away from the concubines. The eight concubines and his sister, Xingmei were sitting together. Behind them were the royal advisors, ministers and important servants!
Before speaking, he bowed twice, towards the Emperor and his mother. After a short speech thanking all guests for attending, he covertly checked the number of guests. As expected, there were no absences and uninvited guests, thus the weapons he had forged were enough.
“…To thank all guests for their attendance, I would like to present my hard work of a week as a humble gift to you all!” With a single thought, more than thirty weapons appeared in front of him in a flash, and immediately shot towards their intended receivers.
Seeing the flying weapons, most guests had only a single thought in their heart, ‘He awakened a battle spirit at the age of 1?!’
The guests who received the weapons were servants, ministers and royal advisors. Referring to the jade slip containing Chanlong Yue’s memories, Heifeng Jiansui had forged a weapon according to each of their preferences. As all the guests checked their weapons, they could feel the top-grade Common Rank materials used in the refinement. However, the weapons were inexplicably items of low-grade Mortal Rank!
‘Heavens! Is this boy a refining god?’ Only this single thought went through their hearts. Meanwhile, some of them checked their spatial rings with worry. ‘I received a Mortal Rank weapon, so giving a common toy as a gift would end up with me losing all my face…’

As Chanlong Yue checked the weapons with her spirit sense, she was surprised on seeing that the weapons were Mortal Rank. She thought that he planned to gift top-grade Common rank weapons, but they were unexpectedly of higher grade! Just then, she realized that the concubines and the Emperor were yet to receive presents… Seeing the confident look of her son, her anticipation silently rose.
As expected, another wave of a hand caused 8 weapons to appear. With another thought, they flew towards the concubines and Xingmei, his sister!
“For my dear Royal Mothers and Respected Elder Sister, I have poured the entirety of my skills into forging this. I hope it is to your liking.” All weapons were mid-grade Mortal Rank. Seeing the tribute, all the concubines could no longer stay composed! The faces of Heifeng Xingmei and her mother seemed complicated as they held their spears.
“And these are my final creations. I poured by blood and sweat into making them and they are my personal apex in refinement, so I wish they do not disappoint you, father and mother!” With a streak of light, two swords, large and small, shot out towards Concubine Chanlong Yue and the Dark Phoenix Emperor.
Both of them grabbed the weapons simultaneously. With a single thought, they understood that these weapons were high-grade Mortal Rank! The flashing spirit senses of the guests did not dare touch the Emperor’s sword, but Chanlong Yue was only a concubine. So they too quickly discovered the item’s rank.
High-grade Mortal Rank! Reaching this level in forging was something quite difficult. Decades of training would not be enough to reach this pinnacle. However, this level of blacksmithing was the work of a 1 year old…
Everyone here was filled with a feeling, as if they did not know whether to laugh or cry…
Suddenly, the two swords formed a strange resonance, as if their true might could only be unleashed when they were near each other. Intrigued by the phenomenon, the Emperor controlled another chair beside him and called out Chanlong Yue to occupy it!
Seeing the Emperor favor one of them, the other concubines were filled with jealousy. As Chanlong Yue gracefully sat down beside her Emperor, she felt gratitude to the Heavens for giving her such a peerless son!
The moment the swords came in close proximity to each other, the carvings on the weapon blades seemed to light up. The dragon and phoenix seemed to chase each other in a circle, causing a beautiful sight to occur!
Seeing this phenomenon, all the audience understood that this was an indication of a special ability of the high-grade weapons! After reaching the high-grade Mortal Rank, some weapons would gain special abilities that would increase their values by several times! These pair of blades were certainly an equivalent to ordinary top-grade Mortal weapons!
Both the Emperor and Chanlong Yue rose, striking out with their swords in tandem. Heavy and light blade howled together, causing the phantom of a dragon and phoenix to fly out! Seeing the flying phantoms, the entire hall seemed to shake for a moment, as if a prelude for an earthquake!
The two phantoms flew around the hall before disappearing into misty light. Seeing this, the faces of the audience shone with surprise. The fact that the Emperor had shown the special ability of the weapon indicated his satisfaction!

Then the disappearances started. At first, it was just farm animals and pets. Then, hunters and travelers close to dusk. By the time children started disappearing from villages, it was too late to do anything. The Blight was spreading, from tree to tree like a sickness, crawling out in all directions. The animals and beasts inside it changed as well. They grew larger, stronger, and more ferocious than anything seen before. Simple farm animals became horrific monsters, distorted to disgusting proportions and violently spreading chaos out from the forest. When the first reports came in of infected animals dragging people alive off into the forest... then the real panic began. Towns fell to the Blight, then cities. Armies were sent to push it back, and were overrun. Heroes and legends ventured out, to no avail. Soon, it was public knowledge to all: Those who entered the forest, never returned. ...So what happens when a young boy comes out of the forest, carrying nothing but a dagger and remembering nothing but his own name?
