《Double Trouble》3. Stanley (Part 2)

In another aisle, Hilary struggled to grab a can from a higher shelf. Jordan got a ladder and a small stool and moved over next to Hilary, who stepped aside in wonder. He placed the seat next to the ladder and climbed the ladder and tried pulling the can out, but nothing worked.
Eventually, Jordan got the can into his hands. However, he fell off the ladder as his feet landed on the stool and slid across the floor. Jordan jumped off the seat, rolled toward Hilary with the can in his hand, and gave it to her.
“Wow, that was impressive.” Hilary complimented, clapping. “Thanks for delivering the can to me.”
“Thanks, and you’re welcome.” Jordan got up and bowed. “If there’s anything else you need, then let me know, and I’ll try my best to help you out in any way I can.”
“Ok, I got to get back to work, though.”
“Yeah, same here, bye.”
Stanley watched the whole spectacle and couldn’t believe his eyes or ears. “I got to go to the restroom.” He murmured.
“You can’t hold it?” Jordan asked, apparently hearing what he said. “I’ll go with you.”
“There’s no need...” Stanley murmured.
“That red-haired lady is kind of cute; I wonder if she—”
“Focus on your work, please!”
Along the way to the bathroom, Jordan kept complimenting the other employees and customers on things like their outfits, hair, and shoes, etc. He even helped other customers out by showing them which aisles contained what and recommended various products inside the cans.
Stanley appreciated Jordan being helpful, but something about his attitude irritated him to no end.
The two made it to the bathroom; the cream-colored walls and pastel tiles made the place look beautiful but dull. Stanley washed his hands in the sink while Jordan looked at himself in the mirror, trying to fix his hair. The water from the sink felt cold; Jordan noticed the prunes growing on his hands and stared at them in awe. Stanley reported how he shouldn’t waste water like that.

“But where is the heater? Is the air conditioner here broken?” Jordan questioned. “I don’t want to wash my hands if it’s only cold, it’ll just feel weird. And what’s up with all the food here? The variety is just awful; I’m going to go give the boss a piece of my mind!”
Jordan was about to storm out when Stanley grabbed his arm to stop him. “Wait, don’t do it!”
“Why not?” Jordan asked.
“You’re new here; they won’t listen to you.” Stanley pointed out. “And besides, those cans mean a lot to him.”
“So, what?” Jordan shrugged. “This could be bad for business...”
“It’s best to just go along with the boss until—”
“If I risk getting fired, then that’s fine. That guy wouldn’t have the guts to do so, anyway. But, sometimes, risks are worth taking!”
“Are you out of your mind?” Stanley inquired. “Do you think you can change his mind or something?”
“Do you have any better ideas?”
“Well...” Stanley took out some papers from his pockets and showed them to Jordan. They had stuff written on it. “I also want to help. As you can see, there are some things I wrote which have complaints.”
“Ooh, that’s great to hear!” Jordan exclaimed as he snatched the papers and inspected them. “This seems promising; if you don't talk to him, then I will!” Before Stanley could respond to that, Jordan rushed out of the doors and headed toward the boss’s room.
Stanley tried to stop the man and chase him throughout the market, but he was too late. He could overhear a conversation on the other side of the door. Stanley slumped on the wall, covered his legs, and lowered his head, unsure how the boss would react to his idea and if they're good enough, that is. Soon, the noise died down, and the door opened.

“Oh, Stanley?” The boss called out to him.
Stanley gulped and stepped into the office. “Um, y-yes?”
“I wanted to talk to you about the papers...”
“Look, I-I can explain—”
“Are you kidding? These ideas are magnificent; how’d you come up with these? And how long did it take for—?”
“A couple of hours, I think?”
“I’ll try some of these out, so thanks!” The boss chirped.
“You’re welcome,” Stanley replied, his face beaming. “Well, Jordan helped—”
“I may have told him, but you wrote them all down, so you should get the most credit,” Jordan mentioned.
“Well, I’ll credit you both for this.” The boss said as he shook Stanley’s hand.
