《Emperor Saga》Chapter 11 : Survival

Daniel was browsing the internet for a breathing technique. His avatar always had a lack of stamina because of the relentless pursuit by bounty hunters. He asked Seth for advice and his answer was:
"Search the internet for breathing techniques and practice it yourself". Seth answered while laughing.
Last time Daniel asked to be introduced to a sword master, Seth gave him an address. But later when Daniel searched the internet, it turned out the place was on some mountain in China which is more than 2000 miles from his home. This time Daniel didn't take Seth’s advice but he thought breathing techniques are good for his basic sword training.
Daniel typed the URL Seth gave him and a website that taught about breathing techniques showed up. Conveniently, he found a link that said:
Breathing Technique For Sword Training
Daniel clicked on the link and a page with a detailed explanation on how to breathe while wielding a sword showed up. He jotted down the breathing technique’s explanation and decided he would adapt the breathing technique in his daily sword practice. But what Daniel didn't notice was at the bottom of the page there was something that was obviously suspicious which was:

Basically, Chrono had all the benefits and penalties of both the Merchant and Soul Necromancer classes. Many decent fighter classes gained 50 health and 1 stat (depending on the class) every 10 levels. But merchants gain a mere 10 health and 10 mana every 10 levels. Luckily Chrono also got Soul Necromancer’s benefits where he gained 10 health and a whopping 2 intelligence every 10 levels which meant Chrono gained 20 health 10 mana and 2 intelligence every 10 levels.
After the last time Daniel fought with the bounty hunters, he continued with his usual hunts for black cats. When he reached level 12, Chrono finally dropped his strategy and just threw the spear at the black cat on sight. This act made his level grinding faster than ever. 'Soul Eater’s' passive started to show its effects by giving extra strength to Chrono. Currently it was unknown to Chrono on how 'Soul Eater’s' strength bonus works, but for now he guessed it was based on how powerful the souls Grave ate were.
But occasionally, bounty hunters came for him. With last time’s experience, Chrono planned his escape routes in advance and managed to shake them off by outrunning them. It seemed experienced bounty hunters like Jason and James from last time had the passive skill called 'predator' that allowed them to close in on their target while remaining unnoticed.

*huff* *huff**huff*
"(They have come again, maybe I should just hunt at night-time?)" Chrono ran for a long time until he finally shook the bounty hunters off, luckily he knew the forest better than them but he knew that advantage would not last long. Chrono decided he would just hunt during night-time.
Chrono hid at one of his hiding spots and started to sort out his loot. He planned to grind some of his crafting skills as he was waiting for night-time. Firstly, he used wolf pelts and black cat fur for clothing. He managed to make a few leather jackets and shadow boots with those items. Unfortunately as a merchant, he couldn't wear leather jackets but the shadow boots were wearable although he was still unable to wear them because of the level restriction. When he finished, he managed to level his clothing skill by 1.

By leveling clothing skill sense and intelligent increase by 1
Then Chrono continued his sword training when he had no material left and he needed to wait for night-time.
When night fell, Chrono went out to hunt like he usually did, but after he killed one black cat a bounty hunter appeared.
"(This time they appear during night-time as well?)". Chrono gritted his teeth holding his temper. He hid during day-time always aware of his surroundings to avoid bounty hunters. Night-time was the only peaceful time for him, now bounty hunters even took that away from him. Actually he could fight them if he wanted to, but he wanted to get rid of his chaotic status faster by not killing anyone. It seemed like it was too late for him to become a normal player again. Right now what Chrono is thinking is, "(If I can't become a normal user.....
.....I will just become the greatest villain)"
Chrono looked at the bounty hunter with resentment, now he saw them as no different from any monster he had hunted. From now on he would hunt them and be the hunter.
"(I will make them cower in fear of my presence)" Chrono started running from the bounty hunter and disappeared in the thick bushes. He was no fool, charging the bounty hunter blindly may make him enter a trap. But when the bounty hunter started chasing him,
CRASSHH!!!
suddenly a spear thrust through his body and like Jason’s case the hunter panicked. Chrono took this chance to attack him.

In the midst of Chrono’s attack, the hunter tried take out the spear from his body, Chrono didn't let him by attacking nonstop.

Looking at his equipment, Chrono could guess the hunter was at least 20 levels above him and he was a warrior type. The hunter endured Chrono’s attacks and managed pull the spear out, while he was doing that Chrono managed to chip his health down to 30%. But when the spear was pulled out from his body, the hunter’s body got the greater bleeding status which decreased his health with 2% per second and -50% defence. Chrono took this chance and killed him. Actually Chrono could have killed him faster with 'Soul Blade' but since he could only use it for 20 seconds a day, Chrono kept it for emergency situations.
You successfully kill a person. -100 fame
"(Now I will be the one to hunt)"
*****************
Forest of the Beast, a forest consisting of level 30-50 monsters. It's not the best place to hunt since 99% of the monsters move in packs but still, some users do hunt here. Until one month ago, the forest still had people hunting monsters here and there. Now, rarely any users hunted there because of one chaotic player.
"It’s him!!!" As the bounty hunter shouted, a spear thrust through his body. His comrade, not knowing what to do, just ran in fear. That was when a giant sword impaled his body.
You successfully kill a person. -100 fame
You successfully kill a person. -100 fame
You level up
Grave level up
By mercilessly slaughtering another innocent, you earn the title of 'Butcher'. Your bounty rises with 1 gold for every person you kill. Plus one hour death penalty per person you kill(only applies when killed by a user)
Chrono didn't really care anymore. Now he even hunted normal users who were hunting in the forest. By increasing his chaotic status, users he killed dropped more valuable items and equipment, he also got experience based on the user’s level. In return if he was kill by a user, he would receive one hour of the death penalty extra per person he killed. Currently if he was killed by a user, he would need to wait 48 hours to log back into the game.

But thanks to chaotic status bonus, Chrono gained level faster. Now normal users were afraid of him, Forest of the Beast was visited by a lot less users now which in turn let him hunt peacefully. Chrono smelted all the equipment he got from killing the users and forged a heavy spear. With a better material, Chrono managed to craft a better spear then he had before.
Fine Heavy Spear:
A fine spear overall but for some reason the creator make it unnecessarily 3 times heavier
Attack : 15~18 Durability : 42/42
Penetrate armor
-50% speed
Javelin :
A thin light spear that doesn't have any weight in it's attack. Can travel great distance if thrown
Attack : 7~9 Durability : 20/20
He made five of each of those spears and was left with a bit more material. Chrono wanted to enhance his defence a bit. His normal clothing provided him with almost no defence. Normal clothing’s purpose was mainly to show off how wealthy one is. High level players always wear them when they are in the city while chatting with their acquaintances. It's fancy and expensive clothing but even the best normal clothing recorded only provided 20 defence. Soul Necromancers can wear better armour but merchant’s restriction overrode that.
In Emperor Saga, even with restrictions a player can still equip it but with a penalty. If Chrono was to wear plate armour for example he would receive a -50% speed and -25% strength penalty. But if he was to wear leather armour he would receive a -30% speed penalty which was less extreme. When he was in the expedition group he saw some of the merchants wear light shields, he didn't know how much the penalty was but he decided to try forge it first and decide later.
Small Buckler :
A light small shield that provide little defense. Can use it to parry attack
Defense : 20 (on hit) Durability : 15/151
Unlike armor, a shield’s defence only applied when an opponent’s attack actually hits the shield. Besides tanks, not many people use it in a normal fight because parrying attacks while attacking needs a lot of skill and quick judgement. Chrono equipped the buckler and got a - 15% speed penalty. Then Chrono decided it was not worth it and he smelt the shield and turned it to an arm guard. He tried to make it as light as possible without neglecting its sturdiness.
Light Metal Arm Guard :
A light metal arm guard that can protect hand. A skillful warrior can parry attack without breaking it.
Defense : 10 (on hit) Durability : 25/25
+ 5% attack with fist.

Chrono equipped the metal arm guard and got -5% speed. He decided to try it first before making his final decision. By crafting all of the equipment, Chrono’s blacksmith skill rose by 2.
Blacksmith skill level up to beginner level 2
By increasing blacksmith skill, strength, sense and endurance rise by 2

After level 20 he changed his build, now every level he spend 3 points on dexterity and 1 point each on strength and stamina. It seemed a speed-type fighter uses a lot more stamina then the strength-type, that's why Chrono started putting points in stamina and to some degree strength to reduce the amount of stamina he used.
Chrono smiled looking at his improved status. He planned to fight wolf packs with his new stats and equipment. Now bounty hunters had slowed down in their hunt, it was a perfect time for Chrono. He went out of his hiding spot and headed to the wolf den.
With his high sense status, Chrono could see further and scouted the wolf den from a safe distance, he held his spear high for an ambush. One of sense’s status effects is heightening all five senses. It was a crucial status for a speed fighter who needed to find and hit the enemy’s vital spot in a high speed battle.
When Chrono saw the wolf leader, he threw the spear aiming for its vital spot.
WOOSSHHH!!!
Critical Hit!!
When attacked, the wolf leader and the whole pack turned hostile and charged at Chrono. Maintaining his composure, Chrono threw another spear.
WOOSSHHH!!!
You hit Silver Hair
This time he missed the vital spot. But Chrono threw more spears while the wolf pack got closer
WOOSSHHH!!!
You hit Silver Hair
Again, the vitals were missed. But Silver Hair started to slow down from his charge since he got three heavy spears stuck in its body. Chrono threw another spear then prepared Grave for the approaching wolf pack.
WOOSSHHH!!!
You hit Silver Hair
Silver Hair staid still like a statue, the wolf leader couldn't move anymore with 4 heavy spears in its body. When all the other wolves got near, Chrono fought normally with Grave. He tried not to get surrounded and sometimes he punched and defended with his left hand. Every time he was in a pinch, Chrono activated 'Soul Blade' and slayed the wolf dexterously.
You slay a wolf
Your health restored by 25%
'Soul Eater' helped him a lot when fighting the pack. After a long struggle, Chrono managed to come out on top and had slain all the wolves except Silver Hair. Silver Hair might not be capable of moving, but as a mini boss Chrono felt it was still dangerous to get close and finish it off. Instead, Chrono threw all the remaining spears and impaled it with ragnarok as the finishing move. The hunt was a success, now Chrono could also hunt wolf packs.
Trrtting!!
By consuming enough soul, you gain a new skill, 'Shadow Ghost'
Shadow Ghost (Beginner level 1) (100 mana, 100 soul) :
When activated, you turn to Ghost for 5 second. In Ghost form, physical object will go through your body, will received + 200% magic damage and -50% speed. Have 6 hour cooldown.

In the newbie town of Dali, bounty hunters gathered and discussed the celebrity chaotic player, Chrono. They were planning something. It seemed the recent calmness for Chrono was the calm before the storm.

Hey everyone! Just a heads up. I am adding the Traumatising content tag because some parts might be considered as, well, traumatising. I want to point out though, it is not my aim to make a story that focuses on this aspect. Yuki is a college freshman that has been pulled into a fantasy world full of magic and monsters. Without any special talents, at level one, and with only a mere wisp as a companion he will need to figure out how to survive in the hostile environment. As he grows stronger and travels across this new world, he will find friends, make enemies, learn betrayal, overcome obstacles and grow into a hero. Hopefully. His goal? To save a princess, of course. A classic adventure fantasy story set in another world. Cover by the lovely Sara Lucasi Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/saralucasi/
