“What the hell just happened?”
The girl stared at the blue display, reading the words again. A particular phrase stood out to her and she reread it, trying to figure out what exactly was going on.
“‘Convince a unicorn to willingly give you some of their blood’...? So that guy in the pentagram was a unicorn?”
Her thoughts were interrupted by another wave of blue screens.

Evelyn Raymond felt deep inside that something had just gone horribly wrong and she suspected that whatever the previous her had been trying to do, this wasn’t part of it. She stared at the influx of information, a million questions running through her head… all of them unanswerable. She shook her head and the blue screens all disappeared as she returned her attention to her surroundings. The moons were all still high in the sky and very little time had actually passed since she became aware.
“Evelyn… Raymond…” she whispered. Her voice was deeper and richer than she was expecting given her small frame. The voice sounded ancient and the wind carried it regally as if it was honored to deliver the sound. However, both the name and the voice were completely unfamiliar.
“What do I do now?” she wondered aloud, half hoping someone would pop out and tell her everything. When no one came, she sighed. As she did so, she noticed an itch in her throat and decided that there really was only one thing to do in this situation. She walked over to the bodies, licking her lips in anticipation. Time to feast.

My vision began to refocus and I blinked, trying to hasten the process. I didn’t know how long I’d been trapped in pure, soundless darkness but the feeling had been incredibly unpleasant, to say the least. Ever tried having zero senses? It’s not fun. However, the experience made me painfully aware of the limitations of my current state. My only senses were sight and sound… and the only thing I could hear was the robo voice.
What was it called again?
Advanced Universal Training and Observation Unit, was it?
Screw that noise, I’m just going to call it Auto.
I looked around as my eyes adjusted. I was still on the mountain top, it was still dark and… all four adventurers were… well… dead. Not only were they dead. They were really dead and looked to have been drained of blood. I’m really glad I chose the vampire…

Speaking of which, where is she? And where did the little girl come from?
“Hey Auto! Where’s my vampire?”
I felt a mental nudge, pointing my focus towards the little girl.
“That is her.”
“...”
I watched as the girl bent down and tore off a cuff of the priestess’s white robe, using it to wipe the blood off her face.
“What? She has similar features but she looks like she’s barely ten. No way that’s the same person.”
“I assure you, that girl is your Tether. Try speaking to her.”
“How?”
“Will your mind and thoughts to connect with hers and forge the bond.”
“Okay, I’ll try it.”
I focused on the little girl. She really was quite cute. Her long hair was a silvery platinum and her eyes were different colors, one violet and one red, giving off a mischievous look. Previously, she’d had a gaunt, greyish face and sharp features but now her cheeks were rosy and she looked healthy. If it weren’t for the strange hair and eyes, the feral grin displaying sharp bloody teeth and the scene of death around her… I could probably mistake her for a human. Maybe I’m just being a little optimistic…?
Anyways, let’s see if I can talk to her.

Unique Skill Acquired: Commune with the Great One
Raymond paused, looking at the new blue screen that had confronted her. Since she had no idea what any of them meant, they’d really just started to become annoying and she almost dismissed this one without a second glance when she heard a strange sound.
*ring, ring* *ring, ring*
There was a bell in her head. She looked back at the blue screen, realizing that the ringing sound and the new skill were probably related.
*ring, ring* *ring, ring*
But the ringing was so annoying! She willed it to stop. And it did… but it was replaced by a voice.
“Hello? Can you hear me?” a warm sounding masculine voice spoke inside her head.
“Well shoot, I’m going crazy. First, everybody around me is dead… second, I have no memories and now I’m hearing voices in my head. If that’s not insanity, then I don’t know what is.”
“Don’t worry. I’m not part of the insanity. I’m a god and I want you to be my prophet!”
“Yup. Sounds about right.”
“What do you think? Want to work together?”
“If I say yes, will you go away?”
“Uhhhh, I don’t think that’s how it works… but if I say yes, will you be my Tether?”
“Sure.”
“Sweet! Loli Vampire secured! I’ll contact you again later, I guess.”
“Sure…”
Raymond shook her head as she felt the connection sever. She had no idea what the voice was talking about. She briefly entertained the idea that a real person had actually been talking to her but quickly abandoned the idea.
“Well damn. Now I’ve got a Great One in my head. Hope he doesn’t multiply… the last thing I need is a whole legion… and now I’m talking to myself. Guess it’s time to get going.”
Raymond stood up from her crouched position next to the body of the white-robed girl. She grabbed the bag the bow-user had been carrying and set off down the mountain, moving towards the city in the distance.
She might be an insane True Vampire with no memories… but all that meant to Evelyn Raymond was that the whole world was new and unexplored and there were a ton of exciting new experiences to be had.

Jackal Among Snakes: GameLit Fantasy Progression
The royal bastard of House Vasquer, Argrave, has changed after his stay studying magic at the Tower of the Gray Owl. The sickly man's awkward posture and cruel behavior have been replaced with a neat dignity and acerbic wit. His listless life has found a path of undeniable purpose. Most come away thinking he seems to know too many details about too much. Few can claim to know his motives or his goals. Behind the scenes, though, the primary contributor for an open-world RPG's wiki battles existential dread and things far beyond his ken as he struggles to adapt to a grim, gothic fantasy world that he had the misfortune to claim as his favorite game. This is his tale. #####What to expect from this story##### This piece is a high-fantasy style story, featuring many of the species and surroundings one might expect to find in such a world. The cultures are original and well-developed, with the primary setting being a European-style feudal society. Warfare, fell beasts, and natural disasters are commonplace in Berendar, and take the center of many plots. The protagonist is a smooth-talker, but the world does not exist for him; he must struggle to gain power. Expect daily releases until we catch up to my backlog.

Epilogue
Revised version now available! Amazon paperback, ebook, audiobook, Kobo, B&N, Google In the war-torn land of Cyraveil, four heroes strove to overthrow an empire. By cold steel and elemental sorcery, they brought peace to a warring land on the brink of destruction. As the flames died, the realm needed strong leadership, and who better than the champions who had saved the kingdom? But when the people sought out their saviors... they vanished. Matt, Blake, Jen, and Carl: the four mysterious companions, who together had deposed an insane ruler and saved countless lives, were gone—spirited back in a whirlwind of magic to a sleepy suburb in Mellbridge, Oregon, never to return. The friends found themselves home in the real world, exactly as they'd been the night they were taken, as if no time had passed... except only three came back. Hi there! This was my entry for National Novel Writing Month, because why only write one series at a time? The more the merrier! (meanwhile, my keyboard bursts into flames...) I'm also the writer of The Last Science, an ongoing low-fantasy/speculative sci-fi series. If you're familiar with that, you know what to expect here: lots of character-focused drama and dialogue, not a whole lot of traditional action. However, I'm writing a bit differently than usual here, and in a very different structure, so there should be some surprises for returning readers. I hope you enjoy it! [Discord] — for those of you who want to hang out and chat. Cover art (fullsize): Path of Revelation, by taenaron (Tobias Roetsch), modified by Etzoli. Normally I like to do my own cover art from scratch, but I was in a rush for the contest. Might be replaced down the line if I get time.
