《The Divine Path》Chapter 26: A Familiar Boss
Advertisement
Sora and his party had been going down the narrow path in the chasm, killing off any corrupt soldiers that stood in their path. The party had finally made it to the bottom only to be blocked by a creature that Sora was very familiar with. A huge, black mantis stood at the bottom of the path exuding a strong negative energy. The mantis was missing an arm and had many parts of his body corroded away.
Level 45 -Visux, The Undead-
It seems that Visux had lost a lot of power after it had died, resulting in a loss of ten levels and presumably a loss in attack too since it was missing one of its arms. Although Visux was at a lower level it couldn’t be underestimated, especially now that it wasn't in a cocoon. Sora had a party this time, including a healer, so it shouldn’t be too hard. Blossom didn’t seem to care too much, she would do as she’s told and put out as much damage as she can. LeeLee was carefully looking around the battlefield to see if there were any points that could be taken advantage of. Drazi was similarly looking for places where he could position himself, as a mage he needed to have a spot away from the battle where he could launch spells without worry. Descended Angel was simply following the party, she was here to heal so her job was difficult but didn’t require much of a fancy strategy. Sora decided to get some input of the other party members, although he had years of experience in the game, he didn’t have any experience with fighting this boss other than the constant swinging at the cocoon.
“The boss himself should have limited mobility, I can try kiting him around. My damage is fairly high so I should be able to keep his aggro. What do you all think?”
“I’m just here to kill stuff mister fisherman. I’ll leave the strategies up to you guys.”
“We should position Drazi and Angel at the center of the battlefield while the rest of us kite the boss in a circle around them… O-or not, pl-please do what you guys want.”
Sora already guessed what Blossom and LeeLee would say. Blossom was just a good fighter, strategies were secondary to her. LeeLee had a good sense of strategy but was too afraid to speak her mind. With the mage and healer in the middle, they will be able to stay still so they can invoke spells with having to move around and interrupt them. Sora had a similar line of thinking but still wanted to make sure the party is in agreement if the party disagreed then it would just cause chaos during the fight so it was better to sort it out right now. Now Sora just needed confirmation from Drazi and Angel.
“That plan is fine with me, but will you be able to hold the aggro while tanking all the attacks? Angel is here as support but she has limited mana.”
“Drazi is right, I can’t promise everyone's safety.”
“I don’t think you will need to heal that much, but I will give you a present just in case. If you don’t want them then you can just return them once we are done. I also have a few for you Drazi.”

Sora pulled out 10 Beginner Mana Potions of Extended Spirit and gave them to Drazi and Angel. Both of them were shocked, this being the first time they had ever had a mana potion. They had heard that somebody was selling them in Var from their guild mates but didn’t get their hands on them. They both wanted to decline the gift but couldn’t seem to say so. They both ended up quietly putting the potions in their belt slots. After a quick rerun of the strategy, the team was ready to fight.
Sora had been the first one to enter the fight, using [Purge with Silver] to boost his damage against the undead boss. He started with a normal attack and [Slash] to start leading the boss around the battlefield. With his extra damage from [Purge with Silver], he was able to easily keep the aggro on him. As Sora started the fight Drazi and Angel both went to the center and started to cast spells, Drazi using a normal [Fireball] to deal consistent damage and Angel would occasionally use [Minor Heal] on Sora. Blossom and LeeLee both started to dish out damage, Blossom still had to watch her aggro since she could rival Sora in damage, mainly because Sora was using half his time to parry attacks. LeeLee was able to stay right under Sora in aggro, even with her constantly dealing damage. Sora noticed that Angel wasn’t using her heal too much so he focused more on damage so the rest of the party could deal even more damage. Angel was finally able to show off her healing skills as she perfectly healed Sora, never overhealing him and wasting mana.
Visux has dropped to 90% health very quickly and unleashed an attack where he would swing his single arm all the way around him, dealing damage to Sora, Blossom, and LeeLee. LeeLee had seen the attack coming and used [Shimmer], successfully evading the attack. Blossom had also seen the attack and tried to used [Savage Pounce] to jump away but didn’t quite make it in time and ended up taking the hit. Luckily Blossom had been putting two points into Constitution for every three points in Strength so she had enough health to tank the hit, leaving her with around 30% HP. Sora had taken the hit but it hardly did anything to him. With his HP he could take 6 of those hits before dying. Angel started by healing Blossom one time just in case something unexpected happened before fully healing Sora, then she returned to Blossom.
The group continued to lead the boss around the room, at 80% health the boss once again used the sweep attack but Blossom and LeeLee had both been ready and dodged it easily. The boss didn’t seem to have many mechanics since that’s all he had done up until he hit 50% health. At 50% health Visux screamed as his arm that was missing had regrown as a physical form of corrupt energy. After his arm had regrown he used the same sweeping attack he had been using, luckily Blossom and LeeLee had escaped his proximity just in case because this time both arms had hit, one dealing the normal damage and the new arm dealing twice the amount of damage. If Blossom had stayed near Visux then she surely would have died. Sora had finally taken a considerable chunk of damage as his health fell to 50% in that one attack. Angel started to heal him as Sora continued to put damage on Visux. With his new arm, Visux had started doing much more damage with his normal attacks. The attack pattern for Visux was to attack one time with his normal arm then attack with his corrupted arm. At 40% Visux once again swept his arms around him, dealing a high amount of damage to Sora.

The battle was a repeat of what has been happening already except this time Visux would hit a lot harder. Although it put a little pressure on Sora, it still wasn’t considered difficult. With him parrying, kiting, and getting heals from Angel he was able to easily tank the damage that Visux had been putting out. His [Purge with Silver] had also made him the highest damage dealer in the party by a large margin so he was able to firmly hold the aggro without his party having to worry. At 25% health, something had finally happened that made the fight a lot more difficult. Visux tore his normal arm off as a corrupted arm instantly replaced it. Now Sora would have to deal with two corrupted arms constantly hitting him and a large amount of damage would come from the sweep attack. When Visux hit 21% health Sora used [Crippling Strike] on Visux before using [Relentless Pursuit] on Angel and started to run at her with the bonus 50% movement speed. Just as Sora had started running a [Fireball] from Drazi lowered the health to 20% and Visux used his sweeping attack, narrowly missing Sora. With Visux being slowed by 50% and Sora being sped up by 50% Sora was able to outrun the attack. When Visux hit 10% health Sora had to tank the hit since he was out of mana plus [Relentless Pursuit] was still on cooldown. Angel still had mana to spare so she was able to heal Sora until Visux died, again, dropping a nice pile of blue loot.
[x1 Corrupted Mithril Dagger obtained]
Rarity - Rare
Durability - 65/65
Damage - 66-72
Requires - Level 40 - Dagger Class
‘An ordinary Mithril Dagger that has absorbed corrupted energy.”
+10 Agility
+10 Constitution
+10% Curse damage
Everybody passed, directly giving the dagger to LeeLee. She couldn’t equip it yet but was very close to being able to. Drazi was wondering what curse power was but had got an answer to that question with the next piece of loot.
[x1 Skill Book: Curse of Pain obtained]
-Use this item to gain the skill Curse of Pain.
The book had a requirement of a class Drazi had never heard of, it was something called a Phantom Assassin. Drazi had wanted to be nice and let Sora take the book since he was the whole reason they were even able to come down here, so he passed on the roll. When Sora passed he was a little confused, then LeeLee had gotten the book without anybody else rolling for it.
“LeeLee, could it be that you're a Phantom Assassin?”
“Mh.”
“Would you mind sharing the skill information, I’m really curious as to what it does.”
[Curse of Pain]
Cost: 50 mana
Cooldown: 30 seconds
Requires: Phantom Assassin Class
-Infuse a powerful Curse into your weapon. On the next attack, the curse will attack the target dealing 100% damage plus 25% damage per Curse applied to your weapon.
For now, the skill was a little lackluster but once LeeLee starts getting more Curse skills it will be her main burst damage. For now, all it would do is 125% damage since [Curse of Pain] also counts as an applied Curse. Drazi couldn’t really measure how good it was at the moment since he didn’t understand the class. Sora gave a small nod as he was reading the ability, the potential for this skill was incredibly high. LeeLee was, of course, happy since she was finally able to get a new skill, even if it was more or less useless right now. Sora continued to loot after everyone had read the skill.
[x1 Staff of Clarity]
Rarity - Rare
Durability - 60/60
Requires - Level 40 - Staff Class
“A staff adorned with a stone eye. The eye seems to watch you no matter where you move.”
+20 Intelligence
+10 Spirit
The staff went to Drazi with everyone else passing. Angel could also use a staff but Intelligence didn’t really help her since that stat was for damaging spells. Wisdom would help with support skills and was a healers main stat.
[x1 Unholy Robe]
Rarity - Rare
Durability - 50/50
Requires - Level 40 - Light Armor Class
“These robes used to have the blessings of a goddess. Now the robes have been saturated in corruption, losing the blessing that was bestowed upon it.”
+15 Wisdom
+10 Spirit
The robes went to Angel since they had the Wisdom stat instead of the Intelligence stat. The only things left were a few coins on the ground. The party split the coins and took a small break before going further into the chasm.
…..
“You said they were at Frost Peak Mountain?”
“Yes, sir.”
“With a hidden quest?”
“Yes sir, I had tried to take the quest and run but once I left the party the quest disappeared.”
In a fancy restaurant, there were two men talking about Sora. One was the assassin that had tried to run off with the hidden quest. The other man had blonde hair and would surely be recognized by Sora, it was Julius. Julius was currently grinding his teeth together as he thought about how Sora had killed him twice and now he was able to have such good luck and get a hidden quest, along with being announced on three server announcements. Sora had been growing fast while Julius was still far behind him, barely reaching level 35. Julius slammed the table, startling the assassin in front of him.
“We will take a group of 50 people to Frost Peak Mountain and kill him as soon as we see him.”
“S-sir… I’m afraid the path there is-”
“SHUT UP!”
“...Yes, sir…”
Julius messaged some of his best guildmates, ordering them to immediately go to Frost Peak Village. Julius loses his mind whenever he thinks of the humiliation he had to suffer because of Sora. Every day the video of him being killed by Sora would grow more and more popular, it had thoroughly turned him into a joke and lead to many players ridiculing his guild. Julius was determined to record himself making a fool out of Sora to reclaim his honor.

The Grey Realm, an Erebus Story.
Written by: Staugroan and The Inklets. Edited by: Claudia Adams. In the beginning there was a god, who watched over and made one world his own. Soon after the god grew restless, but happened to stumble on a small world filled with life. This world was named Erebus by its peoples; humanity. The god was so fascinated with this new world that he started to copy it back home, creating oceans, forests, deserts, and so forth. Then the god created life and eventually his favored creations who would be immortals and be the better of mankind in every way-the elves. So often the god had traveled to Erebus that the two worlds became linked by magic and their inhabitants could cross at will. Relations between the races flourished, and a great empire was born in the Grey Realm, home of the elves. But the god once again grew restless, and set loose great beasts that stood at the top of any food chain, the apex. At first the elves met the challenge and fought them head on. But mankind was not so lucky, they died in droves to push back even a single apex. Something had to be done. Elves and man worked together to begin sealing off the worlds to protect mankind, to limit the ways in and out to better fight the apex off and keep their fellows safe. The ritual had adverse effects the likes of which neither the elves nor man could predict; the sealing of the worlds started slow, but the magic had never been done before, and in their ignorance it spread to completely cut the two worlds off from one another. It ejected the apex, and other magical being back into the Grey Realm, saving Erebus. At first the elves were content, they would find a way back once the apex were dead and gone. But the seal had done more than keep Erebus locked away. The powersource of the seal was magic itself, from both worlds, and it consumed it all greedily. The elves, weakened without their magic, crumbled into ruin, and the apex were free to hunt the other races of the Grey Realm. Two-thousand years later a strange phenomena is occurring and magic is slowly returning to the Grey Realm, and tears open that allow passage to Erebus. Thu'lain and a few elves must make the journey to fallen kingdom of the elves Anosora, in the hopes of reclaiming what was once theirs. They must face their nemesis the apex, and survive not only the species that have turned against them, but a terrible being left behind by the god to kill even the apex. Uch'l'thein, the faceless terror.
