《Foreststorm》Chapter 1 - Birth

She ran. Constantly fleeing from unseen foes, herded in this direction and back again. They were catching up! She ran faster, ever onwards and never stopping. Whenever she had a small break she’d frantically work on something.

She woke, panicked and naked, pressed together by unseen walls. She had been caught! She had to escape somehow! Panic started encroaching her consciousness as she searched for a way to escape the dark confines of the prison pressing at her from all sides.

Doing the only thing she could think of she used her legs to push outward with all her strength. She was strangely weak, she didn't feel like she could run at all. Yet she could feel the prison bending slightly, she accomplished nothing though, the prison pushed back until she ran out of strength.

After a small pause to regain her strength she tried again, pushing against the same spot, this time she felt something crack, a little bit of light streaming in her prison and electing a small squeak.

Squeak?

Something was wrong about that.

That didn't matter now. She had to escape!

She pushed and squeaked from the strain.

And again.

And again.

Finally her foot broke through, giving her a first taste of the outside world.

It was cold.

Very cold.

She needed a little time to steel her resolve she continued, retracted her foot and and started working on the edges of the hole in her prison. A prison she was pretty sure was an egg. Something felt wrong about that.

She used the next few moments to widen the hole until she was confident in her escape.

She started squirming, slowly wiggling herself out of her prison.

With a final, victorious squeak she managed to get out and look around.

Her prison had indeed been an egg, she was surrounded by eggs that blocked her vision. She squeaked in indignant protest - there was no parent to take care of her! She was too weak to stand up too, not surprising considering she had just hatched.

Slowly she started leaving the confines of the loose ring of eggs around her, crawling with ease she didn't expect. The eggs were heated by warm stones, perfect for small breaks to regain her strength.

Looking at her arms she was startled to see them clad in pale white scales. She didn't know why; something about that felt wrong.

Another egg started shaking just before she managed to get past the other eggs, protesting squeaking coming from within.

After she passed two eggs she came in view of a wall of mud, someone dug a hole in the ground and used the material to create walls.

The exit was perhaps a five of the eggs from her position. Nobody seemed willing to get her so she would have to search for someone herself!

After a short pause to regain her strength next to a conveniently placed warm stone she resumed crawling towards the exit. She didn't know how long it took her to finally reach the exit, but she needed another break, her small body was already shaking with exhaustion and cold.

Looking around; she noticed how small the shack truly was, she wouldn't be able to stand in here once fully grown!

Behind her she could hear three of her siblings squeaking - escaping their eggs - one already moving in her direction. After a small rest she restarted the exhaustive work of getting up the slope up into whatever the world had waiting for her.

Once she reached her goal huge arms reached for her, wrapping her in comfortably warm furs. She looked at the being, a humanoid lizard with green brown scales, a long triangular head, small horns, moveable ears and brown eyes. She got the distinct impression the being was female even though she didn't know why. The being would be about a nine times her height tall if standing fully upright, though she was naturally hunched forwards. She squeaked at her - angry - you couldn't expect a newly hatched child to work that hard!

The being smiled a toothy smile, gave her a small piece of meat and patted her on the back until she started getting sleepy. She didn't want to sleep!

Her traitorous body didn't care about that though and the world faded to black even as she fought against it.
