Congratulations on your up coming death!!!!

Based on the afterlife lottery that every mortal is entered into, you and your parents will be given a chance at reincarnation! Since your upcoming death is only classified as ‘Semi-Tragic’ the odds of winning this lottery are only worse than winning the lottery three times in your mortal life-time; much more difficult than winning the Martyr or Extremely-Tragic lotteries! We look forward to seeing you soon!

The car pulled to a stop at a red light while a reality shaking event was occurring in the backseat.

Several thoughts ran through James’ head at once.

I’m going to die? What do you mean ‘Semi-Tragic’?

After re-reading it a few more times to try and understand what’s going on one particular thing stood out to him.

My parents are going to die too? What kind of sick joke is this????

James’ Dad pushed on the gas after the light turned green and they started to ease into the intersection.

The shock ran through James it almost felt like his lungs stopped working.

This can’t be happening, it just can’t.

Almost as if to mock James’ denial the sudden sound of a car horn blaring broke into his shock. It felt like time slowed down as he looked at the car blasting toward them from the passenger side of the car.

This idiot who was about to kill them had run a red light at 60 Mph!

The was no time to scream, no time to warn, no time to do ANYTHING. The car hit them right behind the front axle of the car, sending it skidding across the intersection and into the cars heading the opposite direction.

James felt the bones in his body breaking; the agony flared through him. What felt like millions of needles of pain flooded through his body. He was too used to pain and didn’t pass out, but as the car was hit again from the other side he dearly wish for the pain to stop. For all this to be nothing more than a bad dream.

There was no way this was a dream though. No dream could be this agonizing. No dream could contain the horror of seeing the blood trickle down his father’s forehead: clearly dead. James was thankful that he couldn’t see his mother from where he sat but, he knew she had to be dead. The blood he could see from where he sat was sprayed everywhere. No human could lose that amount of blood and live.

James felt a second sickening wave of agony flood his body, this one different. It wasn’t the agony of all his broken bones. No. It was the agony of see his father dead and knowing that his mother didn’t survive. There is no physical agony possible that can rival the pain of losing a loved one.

He tried to cry out but he couldn’t do it. He was no longer capable of doing so. The shock of two types of pain ripping through him prevented it.

Sirens began to echo off the buildings as the ambulance and police vehicles drew closer. James wavered in and out of consciousness as they used machinery to rip the door off the frame; heard them pronouncing his parents dead and confirming what he already knew. James heard them loading him into the ambulance his awareness too weak for anything else.

He closed his eyes one last time and James Ransom son of John and Marla Ransom joined his parents in death.
