《Medical Wolf》Ch. 6 The Aftermath

When we got home, it was already starting to get dark. Mom brought me into the house along with the groceries. I’m not sure where Dad put all of the weapons but they didn’t end up anywhere in the house. Maybe we have a barn I didn’t notice when we left this morning? Hmm, well, when I can walk that’s something I’ll definitely investigate. Mom set me down on the bed then proceeded to put away the groceries, which gave me a chance to think without the constant jarring from every step she took.
This little trip into town made me realize that there is still way too much about this world that I don’t know about, and the biggest mystery right now is my parents. Why in the world are two people capable of doing magic working on a farm? And where in the world did they learn to do said magic? Plus Dad is definitely some kind of kick ass martial artist, how is he not in the military?
There are simply way too many unknowns in my life right now and the only way to find out answers would be to learn our stupid language. Why can’t everyone just speak English? Or why couldn’t I be granted the ability to just understand every language? Stupid rebirth…
Well despite how frustrating wolf speech is, it’s all I have to work with, so I need to start practicing more. The other thing I need to do is meditate again. I tried it several months ago and after about a week of nothing happening I kind of gave it up. Now that I have proof that magic is real, I have a huge incentive to pick up the practice again. After all meditation leading to magic is one of the basics of a fantasy world and I now know definitively that I am in a fantasy world.

I guess my To Do list hasn’t really changed all that much, I still need to learn the language, I still need to learn how to move around better. The only thing that really changed was that I need to meditate in order to learn magic. Oh and I need to learn more about my parents/ make sure they really love me cause Dad is super scary and Mom can certainly take care of herself.
I continued to just lay on the bed for another couple of minutes before decided that there was no time like the present to start working on my magic. I sat down in the lotus position and closed my eyes, hands held to the side like any stereotypical yogi about to hand down some wisdom. Then I realized how unnatural that would look for a six month old and instead just sat chis cross applesauce like any good kindergartner learns to do. I closed my eyes again and tried to clear my mind… it didn’t work.
I don’t know if you have ever tried to really clear your mind of thoughts, but I lasted around 3 seconds before a random thought intruded on the silence. Plus it was also really hard to shake the excitement of potentially learning how to use magic which may have had a negative effect on the whole clearing my mind thing. I spent maybe 45 minutes while Mom prepared dinner and Dad did Dad things outside simply trying to clear my mind. I got close a couple of times, lasting maybe 10 seconds in one stretch without any stray thoughts intruding upon the silence of meditation, but overall I’d say the session was less than successful.
Mom went outside and howled something at Dad, I assume it was along the lines of “dinner is ready” before she came and picked me up. We ate dinner in relative silence, Mom fed me a couple of boiled vegetables that she mashed up, followed by some breast milk.

After dinner Mom put me to bed and she and Dad went outside to talk. I can’t say for sure what they were talking about, but I think I may have freaked them out a little bit by warning them about the bandits. After all what kind of baby is capable of recognizing danger and warning people about it…
All I know for sure is that my name came up several times during their talk, and I am pretty sure they didn’t want me to know they were talking about me since they had their conversation at the edge of my range of hearing. I was kind of concerned but there was no anger in their voices and no fear, so I wasn’t too worried that they would abandon me or anything like that.
When they finally came back into the house I immediately said, “Mama” and raised my arms as if begging to be picked up. Mom cocked her head to the side for a second before she complied and picked me up. I wrapped my arms around her neck and pressed my cheek against her cheek. I held the embrace for around 30 seconds before I released her from the embrace. I then said, “Dada” and held my arms out. He grabbed hold of me and I treated him to the same experience. After letting go of him I pointed back to the bed and he set me down. I then proceeded to try and go to sleep.
My parents stood over me, watching me for maybe 5 minutes before they joined me on the bed for the night. It took me a while to fall asleep, but as I did, it was to the constant deep breathing of my new parents.

The Hand of Sigmar. A Warhammer Fiction.

When confronted about his presence he claims to be led by the God-King Sigmar, but with the name of the Protector of Mankind come his responsiblities. Soon Adebar finds himself tasked with ridding a town of a mad killer, and settling some lethal family quarrels.Word from the AuthorGreetings! The Hand of Sigmar plays out in the much beloved Warhammer Fantasy setting (owned, of course, by Games Workshop). Do not fret, however, as I've made it a point to make the story digestible even to the uninitiated, and maybe even be a good introduction to the setting. This work will be shorter overall, partly because its born out of a sudden passion, partly because I thought I'd try my hand at a more comfortable story than the grim darkness of the 41st Millenium (psychotic murderer and fraudulent holyman included). Depending on how this does and my time allows more adventures may be coming. While I cannot claim the places, concepts and gods etc. mentioned within as my own, the story and all characters flowed from my own fingers.

My father scolds me sharply. I flinch at the anger in his voice and quickly retract my hand, inches from the trunk of the tree. "Sorry father, I couldn't help it. The trees are just so beautiful," I whine turning towards him. His face softens slightly and he scoops me up into his muscled arms. I wrap my small arms around his neck and bury my face into his shoulder. He hugs me tightly and carries me away from the forest. "Why can't we go into the forest?" I ask, looking over his shoulder to see the red and gold leaves slowly disappear from view as we climb the hill. "The forest is a dangerous place," he sighs. "How can something so beautiful be so dangerous?" I mutter in confusion. "The danger is in its beauty."**Cover by SodaliteSilver**
