《Ranker's Return》Chapter 657

‘What does this mean?’
Hyeonu forgot he was sending whispers and stood still while deep in thought. He wondered if Kim Seokjung’s words were a joke or not.
‘Although Hyung-nim meets the conditions that he said...’
Kim Seokjung had a monk class that was derived from the priest type, thus he could be called a priest. He wasn’t strictly a priest, but it was the same in the larger framework. Furthermore, Kim Seokjung never acted as an arena proxy, nor was he involved in any controversy in the community sites. He might’ve done such acts, but it wasn’t known, so this condition was met.
‘No, it is a joke.’
Hyeonu sighed softly and sent another whisper.
-To Kim Seokjung: The joke is up to here, Hyung-nim.
-From Kim Seokjung: Aren’t you being too sharp? I’m disappointed, disappointed.
Kim Seokjung expressed his upset feelings to Hyeonu, who dismissed his words as a joke at once. Still, this was only temporary. Kim Seokjung got rid of his playful tone and became serious.
-From Kim Seokjung: You know that what I just said is a joke, right? The person is a priest in our guild. He is good. Hyeonu, you know his face too... he is someone who goes around with me.
Hyeonu carefully looked back through his memories at Kim Seokjung’s words. However, he couldn’t remember. Kim Seokjung and Gang Junggu—apart from these two, the rest of the faces couldn’t be remembered clearly. Maybe it was because he was so close to these two people.
‘They went around together?’
Someone who went around with Kim Seokjung—this meant he was one of the best players of New World.
‘It sounds like he is the best or second best among the priests.’
The number of people who went hunting with Kim Seokjung was up to 12, including Kim Seokjung himself. There were only two priests. The rest were monks. It was a very unique and strange combination.
‘If it is one of those two... he is better than Yuri.’
If evaluated objectively, he was likely to be better than Yuri. No matter how good Yuri was, it was hard to say that she was better than the priest Kim Seokjung mentioned. Arena’s strongest guild, New World. One of the most elite priest players. It was regardless of whether it was skill ranking, character specs, or skill utilization. It was a position they couldn’t climb to if they were lacking anything.
-To Kim Seokjung: That’s great, Hyung-nim. I will repay this favor.
Hyeonu immediately sent his thanks. It was just in case Kim Seokjung regretted it.
-From Kim Seokjung: What favor? How can I stop him if he wants to do it? Just doing well is enough. Do well. I’ll send more details to Nike. Brother, don’t worry.

Kim Seokjung disappeared after a long whisper. He completely ended the connection.
‘Thank you, Hyung-nim.’
Hyeonu bowed his head in all directions. He hoped that his thanks would reach Kim Seokjung.
‘I’ve gathered the priests and tankers...’
All that remained was a magician to replace Mason, and the melee classes. They were relatively easy positions to find. The proportion of these classes was very high. This alone explained everything.
‘Most of the applicants are melee classes.’
Hyeonu let go of his worries. He had already gained five players. Now there were seven left.
‘Up to four will be found from New Moon.’
This was the upper limit set by Hyeonu. In fact, four was a lot. It was suitable to show up to three on the streaming. More than that was hard to show properly on the streaming.
‘In the end, New Moon is also content.’
Hyeonu continued to think about it. How should he pick the players of Crescent Moon?
Meanwhile, the man Hyeonu was waiting for, Jamie Moore, appeared.
“Hello, Mister Gang.” Jamie Moore appeared with a bright smile. His appearance had changed a lot. First of all, two swords were tied to his waist. He wore two rings on his hand and his armor was also splendid.
“Did you change a lot of items? It is good just by looking.”
Hyeonu couldn’t believe Jamie Moore’s change. Jamie Moore started to explain the changes with a slightly proud face, “Maybe I was lucky, but I got good items. I didn’t buy a single one of them. This was obtained by clearing a quest and this was obtained by killing a lizardman...”
Each item had a story. Hyeonu silently listened to Jamie Moore’s explanation.
‘It is really good to be lucky.’
It was obvious to anyone who saw it that Jamie Moore’s equipment were rare items. Rare items were literally rare. They weren’t something that could often be gained by hunting.
“By the way, you must be really good at hunting if you obtained them?”
Hyeonu’s question wasn’t about the items or process through which Jamie Moore got them. What was his level and skill proficiency? What skills had he learned? Maybe he had obtained a rare class. This state was important.
“Did you get anything new apart from items?” Skills or class... no, I think it would be better to share your status window and skill window with me.”
Hyeonu simply chose to look at the status window. He thought this was better than hearing about it from Jamie Moore one by one.
“I understand. I’ll show you right away.”
Jamie Moore nodded and shared his status window.

Remaining stat points: 0
Retained Attributes: Dark, fire.]
‘The level is better than I expected?’
Hyeonu smiled when he saw Jamie Moore’s status window. He leveled up more than expected. It was a great achievement for one month of hunting.
'No matter how easy it is to level up...'
Of course, it was inferior compared to Hyeonu. No, anyone would be badly lacking when compared to Hyeonu. Additionally, unlike Hyeonu, Jamie Moore wasn’t in a position to just eat and play games. His level up speed was naturally slower due to the lack of absolute play time.
‘Considering all of that... the speed is relatively fast.’
There was also one more thing. Something caught Hyeonu’s attention.
“Your class is Twin Swordsman? It isn’t an ordinary warrior?”
“Should I say that it is a rare class...? Or should I say that it is a bit different? It isn’t much different from regular warriors.”
Jamie Moore seemed largely uninterested in his class. It was because of the gap between his expectations of a rare class and what he felt.
‘It is definitely a rare class.’
Hyeonu was convinced that Jamie Moore’s class of ‘Twin Swordsman’ was a rare class. In the first place, rare classes referred to everything except for the commonly available classes. It might not feel very different from ordinary classes at the moment, but later, there would definitely be a difference. Of course, it was natural for the difficulty of the operation to increase. There were no returns without risk. It was the basic principle of give and take supporting Arena.
‘The reaction is bad, so I should move on.’
“The level up speed is very satisfying. Then shall I look at the skill window?”
Jamie Moore smiled brightly at Hyeonu’s praise and shared his skill window.
[Skill Window]
[The Flame of the Demon World - Fragach (E-)]
[Weapons Mastery (E-)]
[Bash (F+)]
[Heavy Blow (F+)]
[Double Slash (E-)]
[Magic Power Control (E-)]
“Hoh?” an exclamation emerged from Hyeonu’s mouth as he examined Jamie Moore’s skill window.
The skills were better than he thought. There were two unexpected skills—Double Slash and Magic Power Control.
‘Double Slash is probably the Twin Swordman’s own skill... what about Magic Power Control? Why did he get it so soon?’
The source of Double Slash was clear, but Magic Power Control was questionable. Hyeonu knew it was impossible to even buy skill books for Magic Power Control due to the continuous influx of new people. Supply was so insufficient compared to demand that the value couldn’t even be calculated. Yet Jamie Moore learned Magic Power Control.
“Who gave you Magic Power Control? I heard it is hard to get these days...” Hyeonu asked the question he was most curious about. There was no need to bear it. He wouldn’t answer if it was a secret. Otherwise, he would say it.
“I received it as a gift. From a friend,” Jamie Moore muttered with a strange expression.
A gift—Kim Seokjung was the one who handed Jamie Moore this skill book. Kim Seokjung gave the Magic Power Control Skill Book to Jamie Moore. It was with the words to not spoil his younger brother’s content.
Jamie Moore still couldn’t forget the look that Kim Seokjung shot at him. It was close to contempt. At the same time, there was an unspoken pressure to fill the gap with items if he wasn’t skilled.
“You have a good friend.”
Hyeonu didn’t know this and just expressed his envy with a nod.
"Yes, well... you can say that.” Jamie Moore nodded with a bitter smile.
“Then before starting today’s lesson, I’ll take any questions. Ask about anything you felt while hunting.”
Rather than blindly teaching Jamie Moore, Hyeonu chose to answer questions. It was like teaching how to catch fish. Moreover, this method didn’t completely belong to Hyeonu, but was mixed up with Jamie Moore.
“It wasn’t that hard. It is because low level monsters can only show simple patterns. The problem started from the lizardmen. Unlike before, these guys were smart. The difficulty of the battle increased dramatically.”
Hyeonu nodded silently. Jamie Moore’s words were something that most players commonly went through. They dealt with monsters with low artificial intelligence, so they became frustrated by the sharp increase in difficulty with the lizardmen. Of course, there were orcs in the previous stage, but low level orcs were very stupid. They weren’t that much of a threat. Meanwhile, lizardmen were clever. They knew about surprise attacks and joint attacks.
“Specifically, how was the battle difficult?”
“Previously, my specs weren’t that bad compared to monsters, so hunting was very smooth. Now the difference has widened and the opponent’s combat ability has increased. This made it too difficult to hunt.”
“Then you just have to be good enough at combat to withstand the lizardmen’s attack,” Hyeonu spoke obvious words.
Jamie Moore agreed with him. It was so natural.
“That’s right. It is a problem that will be solved when I get better.”
“Then today’s lesson should be a hands-on lesson.”
"Yes, that’s right.”
James felt sweat flowing down his back. This wasn’t it. Today, he wanted to hear about how to handle two swords well.
“Then let’s go right away and learn how to fight the lizardmen.”

Fallout: Vault X
An original novel set in the Fallout universe, written to be accessible to all, featuring unique people and places. Vol.II. out now Fallout: Vault X tells the story of John. A vault dweller, who spent every day of his twenty five years underground. Like his father, and his father before him. Proud to live in the last remaining bastion of humanity, all that survived The Great War of the atomic age. Hidden deep below the surface of the earth, toiling under brutal conditions. Year after year, decade upon decade. All to expand into the natural cave system the Vault occupied, building for the future. However, John knew what his forefathers did not, that everything he’d been taught was a lie. After finishing school at the age of ten, John received his standard issue pipboy. An arm mounted personal computer, worn by everyone in the Vault. Used to coordinate the relentless pace of expansion, needed to work as an apprentice. To learn the craft that would be his life’s work. A noble calling to ensure a future for all that remained of the human race. A quirk of fate saw John equipped not with the crude, clunky, pipboy model his father wore. That almost everyone around him wore. His looked smaller, sleeker, finished in a jet black sheen. And capable of doing far more than its drab counterparts. The world above had been ravaged by atomic flames, yet life clung to its bones. The Red Valley fared better than most in the century since the bombs fell. The clean water and rich soil protected by rolling hills. All spared from direct strikes, for the most part. Life survived here. Trees spawned from charred ground, misshapen, green leaves turned red. Along with simple crops, grown wild at first, then cultivated by the survivors. The scavengers of the old world were inventive, hardy people. All determined to rebuild in the ruins of a world they never knew. In the decades that passed settlements emerged. They grew, spreading along the valley floor. Reclaiming the pre-war remnants of the once industrialised heartland. Salvaging the robotic wonders of a bygone age to build their walls and work their fields. To protect them in the dark of the wasteland. But such things are uncommon in this world, and the rarer something is, the greater its value. And the worth of pre-war technology had not gone unnoticed. The last, real, power in this world rested in the mechanised hands of The Brotherhood of Steel. Forged from the mortally wounded old world military. The Brotherhood used its access to the weapons made for a conflict no one won to strike out into the wastes. Men and women were equipped with advanced armour, aerial transportation, high grade weaponry. Accompanied by the training, strength, and will, to put them to use. They established chapters and set up outputs far and wide. All dedicated to a single purpose. To ensure the technology left abandoned by its long dead creators didn’t fall into the wrong hands. Namely, any hands that were not their own. This is the world John escaped into. A place of horrors brought forth from atomic fire. A place where survival meant battling against the darkness. Fighting a war each day to get to the next. And war...war never changes
