《Reincarnated As A Dragon Vol.1: A New World, A New Life》Chapter 4: On The Run

In front of Fulimos, a group of 5 adventurers with a few years of experience in tracking monsters. In the arts of extermination, they would only be level with an experienced-class monster. But they are experts in tracking magic and are very attentive. None other than them were in the city of the time of this 'crisis'. Automatically, they're the ones that came to the Lord's and King's request. and with high pay, anyone that can come would come anyway.
They always work as a team, so the organization of this group is just an extra to this mission. Of course, Fulimos is coming with them.
"Adventurers, you might know that this nation has entered a little stage of grief as our nation's princess has died in the hands of two lesser dragons in this region. The king has ordered us knights to exterminate the dragons that committed this deed and any eggs or hatchlings that might terrorize this town in the future. We don't want the same event to happen again, do we?"
The adventurers nodded, except for one. This adventurer seems to be kicking a rock around, not listening. Fulimos slammed his foot on the ground and the adventurer quickly nodded, "Yes, sir! We don't want the same event to happen again!" The others snickered.
Fulimos gave him a cold glare. "Good. History will always repeat itself, but we can delay that repetition with a little intelligence and some action. That's proof that little things we do can change the world. Or, as [redacted] believe, the butterfly effect. Now, let's go, should we?"
===============================
"My lord, your son is requesting to speak to you."
"Huh? What will this be about? Alright, bring him in."
Lord Gracius was in his personal room, where he reads through paperwork for this town. The king is still ordering him to quickly kill the dragon that is the hatchling of his daughter's murderers. As a lower noble, he's not allowed to voice out his complaints, but his personal impression of the king is getting lower and lower each time. He's already had his revenge for his daughter. This new lesser dragon is now my problem as it can terrorize this town, but he treats it like a crisis.
Suddenly, a servant from beyond the door told him that his son, Besley, wanted to see him again. He let him in. A 10-year-old skinny boy went into the room.
"What is it this time, Besley?"
"Daddy, is the scary dragon in the forest already gone? It's been three days... I wanna play in the forest again!"
*sigh* "I'm sorry Besley, it's not gone yet. But I promise that tomorrow you can play again."

"But daddyyyyyyyy, I wanna play todayyyyyy."
"But you know that the scary dragon is still in the forest. You don't want to be eaten, do you?"
"No..."
"So you should go play tomorrow when the dragon is gone!"
"Alright..."
"Now, go play with your sister."
Besley went out of the room. The servant that announced Besley's coming excused himself into the room to whisper something, "You should be more careful with your son." Gracius raised his eyebrows. The servant continued, "He's very smart and cheeky. That's a dangerous mix."
"What do you mean? He's as innocent as a newborn! Sometimes I wonder if he ever grew at all mentally!"
"My lord, that's what makes him dangerous and rebellious. That's only how he acts around other people. But when he's alone, and I've seen him think he's alone, he's not evil or anything, but rebellious and extremely cheeky. I advise you to be careful."
Gracius thought about it a bit, "I'll talk to him about this after I complete these first."
~~~~~~~30 minutes later~~~~~~~
The Lord and the servant that told him about his son's hidden side is walking through the corridor of the mansion. They are going to Besley's room to talk with his son as a father-son talk. Gracius already told another staff to find his son in the mansion to meet up in his room.
"How many people know about this hidden side my son has?"
"Every staff in this building knows..."
"WHAT? Why'd no one tell me about this?!"
"You're his father, so we thought that you knew..."
"Hmmm, I've been so busy with myself that I don't even know much about my son's personality."
Suddenly, quick footsteps were approaching from the front. It was one of the mansion's guards. "My lord, we couldn't find your son anywhere in the building!"
Gracius panicked, "HOW?! Have you checked his room?!!"
The guard froze and meekly muttered, "No..."
"FOOL, he must be in his room!"
Gracius then quickly shuffled to the door with a sign hanging 'Besley' and another 'Do Not Disturb'. He came into the room.
"Besle-"
The window was open with a rope hanging out of it and anchored by tying it up around a foot of the bed. Gracius stomped his foot angrily.
"BESLEY!!!"
===============================
For the last three days, I've gotten myself on a schedule. In the morning after I woke up, I relax in the hot spring like a spa and go hunting. from what I think 11 am is to 3 pm-ish, I practice flying and fire magic. After that, I hunt and relax again, and then when I'm tired, I sleep.
What fire magic you say? Yes, I'm special. I got one of whatever this intrinsic magic is. And I'm happy that I got fire. Personally, I would either choose fire or earth because controlling fire is always a cool thing and earthbenders are freaking awesome. It would also automatically pose a disadvantage to those that can't fly. But I can only practice fire magic in my cave because, come on, it's a forest out there. I'm not going to commit deforestation just to practice magic. Another thing I noticed is that I'm immune to my own magic. I hoped that how it would work but I was happy anyway.
I already can create a sphere of fire around me, create spear-shaped projectiles from it, and fire is out of my mouth like a real dragon should to a distance of 10 feet, which is pretty great if you compare it to my 2-foot length.
I'd say that I can fly like every other dragon in 2 days. I've learned how to be still in the air by flapping wings. I can also manoeuvre easily in the air. But I still need to have an initial height first. I can't fly from the ground. I'll need to learn that next. And also I can't do any complicated manoeuvres like how you use Elytras in Minecraft.
I was in the middle of relaxing when I saw over the ledge of the cliff one of the knights and five others with leather protection. Of course, they couldn't see me up here. That's what I thought until a shard of ice from that direction whipped past my right shoulder and one of them started to scream bloody murder.
================================
"A lesser dragon needs their parents to learn how to fly. And that's when they're 2 months old! This dragon won't be able to fly! Three of you! Go to the left side of the cliff! We will go to the right!"
The leader of the adventurer group pointed towards Fulimos, a woman who does support magic, and a man who is the second-best to the leader on tracking magic. He was the one who spotted the dragon resting on top of the cliff. But the pose seemed a bit human though. Like it's in a spa.
Suddenly, Fulimos knocked him in the head, hard. "Are you trying to fool me?! Because look at that! What you just said was not the tiniest bit true!" He shouted, pointing at something in the sky.
The leader looked up to see a shadow covering his eye for a split second. It was the same dragon.
"WHAT. Even arch dragons wouldn't understand what their wings are for until they're a few months old! But if the dragon miraculously learned it in 5 days, it should not be that fluent! Shoot him with ice spears!"
================================
The moment I heard the leader of the adventurers said that I'm not supposed to fly at all, I fly, of course. From what he says, all my kin would be like wild animals who don't have any intelligence.
And then he ordered the mage girl to shoot ice spears at me.
Well, this is shit. WOA-
One of the spears grazed my side. A few drops of blood came out, but it wasn't anything that is going to pose me a disadvantage. It is clear that this woman is only shooting at my path, as I weave around each spear with some simple manoeuvres. But suddenly, she started shooting at every side. I dodged and dodged, some grazing parts of my body, but fortunately, none hit my wings. Falling from up here would be fatal. God, I can be such a pro at everything when I'm under pressure.
AAAAAAAAAA-
================================
"FOR THE LOVE OF GOD, WHAT IN THE WORLD IS GOING ON HERE?!"
The leader flew into a rage seeing the hatchling nimbly dodging everything that goes for it. That is until one hits its left wing. Everyone cheered at this progress but Fulimos wasn't satisfied yet.
"We need to follow it! It's heading for the town! We need to kill it before it enters the town and creates a panic!"
The group then went in the direction of where the dragon is thought to land.
================================
It was stupid of me.
Very stupid.
My back right leg is sprained from such a hard landing and my left wing has a big hole in it that is BIG pain.
***********************************
These ice shards are getting hard to dodge! Wait... What's that? It's a town! Ooooh-
*Rip*
AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA- OWWW OWWW
EEEEEE, I'M ABOUT TO DIE, I'M FALLING I'M FALLING! USING MY RIGHT WING TO GET RID OF SOME MOMENTUM BUT IT'S STILL GOING TO HURT.
*Hard landing noises*
************************************
I GOT FUCKED BY THE VIEW OF A TOWN.
Just then, I heard the muffled shouts of those that are hunting me. Refusing to give up, I started shuffling through bushes until I saw a tree with some sort of treehouse.
I heard a gasp and looked in the direction it came from. There was a swing that is tied to a tree.
With a young skinny boy on it...
Flame Beneath The Snowfall
Alto is a world governed by Tones. Magic, as one might call it. Manifested through deep mental and physical conditioning, one can control the Tones in a way that is unique to them. The power to store items in gems, transfer life, affect a person's mind, and even the more primal abilities such as control of the elements. Those who have these supernatural abilities are called 'Vassals.' People that fully manifest their abilities are not as common as one might think, and not all Vassals acquire their ability through practice, given if conditions are met. In fact, those who had received much trauma manifest the Tones more frequently, albeit spontaneously. However, the rare kind of Vassals are those who manifest it from childhood. A gift, but not without its repercussions. Alto is stuck in a transitional era, where the line between modern and dated technology is blurred. One can travel to a city that has a tall skyline, bustling with people in sophisticated clothing, or a mere town governed by a lord, all the while riding on a powered vehicle. Cultures vary: Some turn to the more dated practices such as castes, others are more inclined to set equal footing on their people, led by nobility. Some are dedicated to become scholars, studying Alto's Tones, while others set foot on hunts, protecting lone towns from the creatures of some of the still-untamed lands. And the Vassals? Those willing are took under The Organization, an elusive group, its presence said to permeate all throughout Alto, taking care of Rogue Vassals that abuse their abilities and other businesses related to their side. But what is this story all about, you may ask? Well, set your sights on the upper portions of this huge landmass that is Alto. Yes, the 'whole' world is called Alto, but that is because the majority of the known people live on this large continent. Relieve yourself of the worrying tensions everywhere, and see the white snow. Trace the piercing mountaintops and focus your eyes between the valley. A town sits there. Mido. After realizing that the memories only left in his mind was the night of his town's imminent destruction in flames, a boy finds himself grasping for every fiber of his life as he lays down flat on the ground. Beneath him was soot mixed with the white snow. Fortunately, a group of investigators, who were supposed to answer their call for help, saved him from his sorry state. With a newfound second wind, but hampered by his loss of memory, he must solve his own case: Who had the audacity to set Mido, his town, aflame? Flame Beneath the Snowfall focuses on action, with a sense of adventure, but mostly the discovery of an outside world, and the protagonist's exposure to it. Add in a whisk of soft magical elements, and you get a story that I hope will be interesting to the readers. That is not to say that my work is without the sense of unnerving atmosphere, however. As a forewarning, there are elements of gore, horror, minor elements of mental trauma, etc. so it is not for all audiences. *The book is already completed. Although I have plans to continue the story (it would have to involve much larger scope in terms of world-building), I have yet to decide when to start the next entry.
