《Deepest Depths》Chapter 7: Meetings and Masters

“Max? Max? Are you okay? Can you hear me? Max?” When Iris realized he passed out she shot out of her seat, rushing over to the Guild Masters office. She knocked on the open door while walking in. The room was large and open, a wooden desk in the center. The Guild Master sat behind the desk talking to someone. He looked up when Iris entered, ending his conversation.
“Sir! He said he did it! It worked!” Iris exclaimed with a huge smile on her face.
Domic, Lesterwood’s Mage Guild Master, looked at the women he was just talking to. A sly grin appeared on his face.
“I guess you're going to have a new student, Madam Vel. I will have the required materials ready for him.” Domic wasn’t even trying to hide his “I told you so” face.
Madam Vel leaned back glancing between the two smiling Guild members. She knew that one day this would happen. She hadn't had a new student in a hundred years. No one had been crazy enough to try and learn water-based healing. Water healing was notorious for its level of difficulty. Unlike the other disciplines of healing magic, there was no life force in water. Creating a pseudo understanding with water was required to heal with water, and Madam Vel knew of no one else other than herself and the Deep Strider Clan, to the far east, that could achieve such a thing.
Her last apprentice died so very long ago. Madam Vel vowed never to make the same mistakes. A bitter smile came over her, when she turned back to Domic.
“So be it.” With that, Vel stood and left. Humming a tune from the Deep Strider Clan, reminiscing of her past life.
Iris watched Madam Vel walk out. She turned back to Domic, slightly stunned at the prospect of a new water healer. Oh the possibilities.

“Anything else to update?” Domic asked.
“I think he passed out. He wasn’t responding to my queries, and I could hear retching.” Iris said with a slight frown.
Domic nodded. He knew that it would only get worse until he got a class. Oh, what we do to survive.
“Alright, thank you Iris. Keep me updated and keep this quiet. We don’t need news of this getting out without making sure he is safe. How long until those rats reach him?” Domic asked, “Also do we know who this girl is?”
“Negative on the girl. The “rats” will be there by morning. I have already sent them a Mana Message informing them of the cabin, and the girl.”
“That's good, that's good.” Domic leaned back in his chair. Unconsciously rubbing his scarred hand. “This is what we were looking for... I can feel it.”
“Yes sir, I can too.” With that, Iris turned and walked back to her desk. She could not stop herself from grinning.
