《Working at an Isekai Office While Terrible Things Happen》[ARC 2] Chapter 16 - Malcolm Shoots Dalton

Riot’s arm stuck out from underneath the truck. Blood dripped from the grill, and a puddle of blood quietly spread from underneath it.
There was only silence within the room. No one dared to speak. The audience was still processing what had happened. Dalton was just as dumbstruck as everyone else.
How had he won?
He literally only played monster cards and somehow he won? His move luckily summoned some lovercraftian creature and devoured all ten thousand of Riot’s Heartpoints? That seemed like bullshit to him.
Nikolai seemed to agree with that point as well.
“You!” Nikolai rose from his throne and pointed his little finger at him. “You cheated! There is no way that you could have won fairly against Riot!”
The sentiment spread from the shell-shocked crowd. They started to yell in unison, throwing cups and food at Dalton. A wrench almost hit him but ricocheted off the chair and bounced off the truck above him.
“I didn’t cheat!”
Those words were drowned by the yells and boos. He was actually unsure if he did.
Dalton rose his hands, but it did not block the onslaught of things being thrown on him. He tried to pull away, but the chain made him stay in place.
He was at the mercy of the angry crowd.
A gunshot rung through the air. Malcolm stepped forward, holding up his beloved revolver.
“He didn’t cheat. He won….fair and square.” Blood was dripping from his eyes, his face twisting in excruciating pain from uttering those words. The hand holding his betting ticket trembled.
He was more upset about his ticket than him winning.
“So, you did try to set me up!” Dalton leapt at him, but chains stopped him in place. These cursed chains!
“Riot had ten thousand heart points! He didn’t even attack him directly!” Nikolai point out.

“I don’t know, I’m not an expert in Dark Monsters.” Malcolm shrugged, motioning to the arm sticking out of the truck. “He should know.”
“Oh, okay then I guess that explains everything. You guys can go home now.” Nikolai slammed his hand on the armrest. “Like I would just believe you! You killed my best dueler! Do you know what his isekai package is like? It’s gonna bleed me dry! No. I think all of you here are going to die tonight!”
Nikolai rose a hand. Some men in black suits pushed forward from the crowd, armed with guns.
“Put the gun down Malcolm! Put it down, and I promise I won’t toss your corpse in the Goblin Hole!”
Malcolm turned his head. “Goblin Hole?”
“We have a problem with goblins right now-” He shook his head. “It doesn’t matter, just know that your corpse littered with holes will be a plaything hundreds of goblins.”
Dalton rose a hand “Can I go home?”
“In a body bag!” He spat.
“Enough of this.” Malcolm aimed his gun at Dalton.
“The fuck?” Nikolai gave Malcolm a strange look.
Dalton agreed.
“If you think killing your little champion is going to stop me from turning you into a sex toy for goblins, well I have a terrible surprise for you.”
“Malcolm.” Dalton kept his eye on Malcolm. Instinctively he grabbed his tacky tie. “Put the gun down, don’t shoot-”
He saw a flash come from Malcolm, and a sharp crack resounded in the air. Time moved slow and he could feel his breath leave his throat. His hands felt his body to see if there was a hole. Instead, as his arms moved, the chains around him slipped from his body and fell to the floor.

A scream cut through the air. Dalton looked up to see Nikolai holding his arm. Dalton still wasn’t sure what had happened, but he had realized that he was free right now. He took a step forward but stopped in place when he heard a metal groan above him.
He turned his head to look above him. Whatever held up the truck snapped and fell.

Malcolm didn’t aim when he shot Dalton, because he knew for a fact that the bullet wouldn’t harm him. It worked out, his chains fell, ricocheting from the lock, then to the truck above Dalton, and then it hit Nikolai square in his right shoulder.
He couldn’t have asked for a better result.
As Dalton took a step forward like a baby taking its first step, the truck fell on him.
At least…he had been sure that he wouldn’t die.
Just as he felt like he would have to report another death to Eira, Dalton came lumbering out of the dust unscathed. He was in deep shock, and nearly tripped on his on feet if Malcolm hadn’t caught him.
“Come on boy!” He didn’t respond. “We gotta go before Nikolai orders his men to shoot at us.”
Gun shots rang. That was the signal to get going.
Malcolm led Dalton by the arm out of the warehouse.

Ars Magica
Our vision comes back into focus. Our eyes, while being able to perceive the immediate surroundings, still leave us with our minds uncomprehending towards what is actually occurring. Sure, there are definitive things that we can focus on, like the fact that we're either out upon the open sea or the open ocean, there not being much of a difference with no land in sight, as well as the fact that we appear to be upon a haphazardly constructed metal boat, whose seams are barely able to keep a hold of themselves in the crashing waves. However, that does not let us understand what exactly is causing the waves in the first place. If we were to rewind time, we'd find ourselves upon a calm sea under a peaceful sky with the only difference, being a small whirlpool that would be the precursor towards this uproar around the boat. Lightning flashes in the sky, with no clouds being near, and anyone actually manning the boat has either died towards the cause of the smashing tides in the first place, or are fighting amongst the flashes of lightning, all while trying not to become devoured, demolished, and utterly decimated by the beast roiling in the whirling waves. To better understand exactly what is happening here, there is one singular event that needs to be understood, that needs to be explained, and that is the arrival of a creature named Dave. Stepping back from current events and going towards this creature's first appearance in the world, we begin to hear the sound of water slowly dripping across rocky ground. The cavern is utterly silent except for this one constant, its cause feeding channels downwards, sloping towards cracks in the rubble along the floor from broken stalagmites and stalactites. And there, lying on top of something which had fallen over recently, judging from its cracks, is a person, the creature named Dave. His form is fast asleep, either from the impact or from an intoxication, judging from the smell upon its breath. A bright light suffuses into it for a second, giving life towards the pale skin, before it slowly dies down back to the comfortable black of the cave that it's within. Before this moment in time, Dave did not exist in the physical world. At least, not in the reality that he finds himself born into. We do not know whether or not his existence is simply a cosmic joke, or something that is being played out on purpose. All that we do know, is that one moment, the body was not in the cave, and simply formed in the next. The actual earliest time that we know Dave exists, is the interpolation of the memories of J-209, which we'll begin looking into shortly to gain context towards the coming narrative that is being written and hastily trying to keep itself written. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Warning: This story has several things which might turn its readers away. The first is that this story has shifting points of perspective. Don't worry about that previous sentence too much though, as the main character will always have a first person perspective associated with them. However, any other character from which we're viewing the story from will either be in third-person, as we are not necessarily in their shoes at the moment, or in first person, given that the narrator is an actual physical presence within the story. For the most part, chapters will be self-contained with their perspectives, so there will not be an abundance of switching perspectives within the same chapter. The most that an average reader would have to worry about is the fact that perspectives can switch between chapters. The second thing is that the main character is a bit on the 'special' side of things. He's not exactly mentally there most of the time, so there will be some times that his personality or his thoughts do not actively align with his actions. The third, and final thing of importance, is the fact that past the first couple of chapters, nothing has been planned in advance. There are arcs and plots that I want to do, want to implement, or have already been set into motion from our main character's introduction to the world, but the method that I use for my story writing and generating leads towards a bit more random chance being enabled. Basically...there's a lot of dice rolling behind the scenes. To not complicate the story further than its regular LitRPG elements, the rolls will not be publicly available. However, there will be knowledge within the author's notes on whether or not there were positive or negative critical rolls that had occurred within the chapter. You have been warned. Updates: Mondays & Fridays (Schedule permitting) Typical Chapter Length: (2,000-3,000)

The White Rabbit: Book 2
In the Urillian Empire, the Empress Xandra rules three-quarters of the planet Xren from her home in the capital of the Earth Continent. Both the fire and water peoples have fallen under her might after a series of wars stretching back three centuries. Earth elves, under Xandra's rule, have spread throughout the planet and established colonies, and are, by all accounts, enjoying what seems to be a prosperous and happy existence. But not everyone in Uril is happy. The holy books speak of elves as the Chosen People of Thesis, tasked with guiding and protecting the lower races. For some people, this scripture has been interpreted to designate their life as one on the lowest rungs of society. Humans have been reduced to a slave class, and serve their elven masters under Xandra's rule, kept at bay by the constant fear of the dreaded Emerald Knight, and their own perceived weakness. Humans do not lead long lives, nor do they possess the wisdom, power, or magical acumen of their elven masters. But there is hope. A group of people have banded together to fight against Xandra, her Knight, and her empire. They call themselves the "Knights of Order" united under the principle idea that Xandra's reign has brought chaos unto Xren, and they wish to restore order. These Knights are led by a man named Xaxac Brigaddon, spoken of as a legend. They say that when the moons are full, some humans transform into powerful beasts. They say that Xaxac is the most powerful warrior on Xren, that in his youth he was enslaved and forced to fight other humans to the death in a bloodsport called "cage fighting", that he could not be touched and held the world championship title for three years running until he faked his own death and escaped his master to join the resistance. They say that he has friends in high places- noblemen, pirates, and the devil himself. They say that if you can find him, he can ferry you to freedom in places where the Earth Elves fear to tread. They say that he is immune to magical attack, and his eyes shine like the silver moon. They say that he is descended from Quizlivian Brigaddon, one of the humans who helped the demon Magnus escape a god. They say that if you want to walk the Path of Order, you should follow the White Rabbit.Come and watch the transformation from human boy to Knight of Order: The life and times of Xaxac OfAgalon OfLangil Brigaddon. Content Warning: This work is based on the real experiences of human trafficing survivors. Xaxac's origins are based on true events, and they are presented realisitcally; this includes but is not limited to: isolation, gaslighting, emotional and sexual abuse, and grooming tactics. This work is meant to hold a mirror up to society; it is based on the real of experiences of people who have experienced slavery and/or abuse. It is an adult work and probably should not be read by anyone under the age of 18. If you are a survivor of human trafficing and/or abuse, your feedback is welcome, but please do not read this if you think it may trigger your trauma. I did not write this with the intention of harming anyone, but rather to provide accurate representation for a group that does not normally get it in the hopes of changing the zeitgeist. I would like to see a world where more people understand what these experiences are like, so that real survivors do not have to deal with microagressions from an ignorant public. Reader discretion is advised. This book does not display these elements as heavily as book 1.
