Domain of Celestial Paper I

The Domain is sustained off ambient mana.

Within one hundred and twenty meters the World bends to your will.

Create, write, locate, view from, defend with, attack with, all is possible within the Domain of Paper.

Enemies within the Domain suffer from a 50% decrease in power unless they also control one.

Well that’s new. Eve thought. So no wonder higher level powerhouse types are badass, they literally cut their opponents power down to size.

Notably, unlike the previous times, there was no mind melting pleasure as the effects appeared purely mental, or magical. Which was a good thing because at the moment Eve was wrangling one of the only problems her little garden had. Taking a glance at the problem child in her garden, Eve sighed. It had been a busy seven days grinding out Locate Lost Paper from I to V.

The entire process would have gone much smoother if she didn’t have to spend her time re-organizing her garden into a semblance of sanity. Due to paranoia from the ferret incident, she had checked the garden out from above. Discovering that only a single creature inside was dangerous, well dangerous to idiots, had been a happy moment.

Kudzu

Level 5

HP: 25/25

MP: 13/25

A new arrival in the world, this plant is a sentient vine-shrub that eats meat.

Eve didn’t want to kill the Kudzu because it made a perfect guardian for the much more valuable herbs and spices. Some of the new stuff was a version of pepper that grew spicier with mana added, along with a host of other stuff. Moving the plants into new locations, and organizing the entire garden once again had taken a large chunk of time. In order to level she had been forced to paper the clearing outside in colored cameo paper. By spamming Locate Lost Paper she had created a quiet little spy net.

Granted it blazed to her eyesight like a giant trap, however Eve was fine with that. Anything able to see the massive outlay of mana would suspect an ambush predator.

She had taken precautions to cover her house in the meantime with paper that made it look like a part of the forest. Looking at it from any of the four directions merely made it look like a piece of the forest behind it. Eve had gotten the idea when she discovered that the System interpreted the concept of words loosely. If a word happened to also appear exactly like a tree trunk in the distance, well, so what?

Those factors combined had allowed her to finally reach the last milestone allowing her to take Celestial Scholar.

Casually dodging the Kudzu, Eve said, “Please bring up the Class Spell and Class Skill List for Celestial Scholar.”

Moving through the two lists Eve earmarked future choices. For now her massive mana regeneration paid minimal dividends because she didn’t have any Spells to use. Since the Domain was sustained off ambient mana, it would only use her own if there was nothing else around. Considering she was somewhere in what appeared to be some type of enchanted forest, there was zero drain on her mana.

Eve immediately activated the Domain of Paper I before eyeing the Kudzu and saying, “Look. I don’t mind you living here. I don’t mind you eating things that enter the garden, well except for myself. I’ll even go out of the way to feed you in lean times like right now.”

The vines paused as her ability to translate Language from Polyglot which was now a part of Celestial Mind took effect.

“Just work with me. Unless you need to see who the real boss is around here?” Eve said, raising a single eyebrow in challenge. There was a pause before the vines shot towards her once more. “Fine. Let this be the only lesson required.”

Six shining pieces of not-iron sliced through the vines like a weedwhacker. The entire Kudzu was trimmed until it shivered in the corner barely alive. “This is the first, last, and only lesson. If I have to repeat it, I will remove you.” Eve said, as she turned the plant mulch into paper sheets. Moving back inside the house she was followed by the Six Samurai, the name she used for the six pieces of Celestial Iron that followed her like loyal pets.

Continued imbuement of her mana had permanently altered the iron from her brother’s truck into something else. Since it was nothing but beneficial, and since she would never admit to a living soul it helped her sleep, Eve ended up naming them.

Number One, Two, Three, Four, Five, and Six followed a strict military hierarchy. Number One and Two were most enamored with the mice. While instead of mice, Three, Four, Five, and Six treated the sparrow as their object of study.

Did she understand it? No. Not a bit. Eve however was more than willing to let her floating chop chop buddies strange habits go. Since testing the ferret meat on mice was successful, she had managed to seal large portions by re-using her vacuum sealed bags. The freezer was filled with ferret meat, and she had turned the fridge as low as it would go. It was the discovery of spices that had broken the dark clouds.

Like her mother always said, you can only eat something for so long before the mind begins to reject it. Once the mind rejects, the body will follow soon enough. Keeping that principle in mind Eve had always been worried about her food and water supply. The ferret meat was a godsend, the spices in her garden a divine message.

Even if this world is filled with bad things at least it isn’t complete shit. Eve thought. Moving back into the kitchen she took a seat before pulling No. 6 over to her in order to write a to-do list. The smaller numbers were smaller sheets of paper, and as the size increase, so did her writing space.

As she went to write down the list of things to start doing her mind froze. Celestial Mind started making connections in her memory that spilled out faster and faster as her breath became ragged.

He knew. Eve thought her mind stuttering in shock. Matt knew this was going to happen.

Celestial Mind pushed further, like a dog on the trail. Clues were connected, images that were half remembered became brilliantly clear. The final blow was when a several glowing Runes blazing with magic lit up in her mind. Runes were complex, yet these spoke to her in words forgotten by the modern ages. Each rune had been emblazoned on a hidden portion of each book's cover that she only now realized as her mind pulled bits and pieces together. The runes meanings were without question from her brother, and she knew them soley due to his intrest in old languages.

Protect. Shield. Save. Restore. Locate. Assist.

Eve knew what they meant, because she had caught her brother studying those exact images years ago after a particularly bad time in his life. Matt had shut himself out from the world, his trust in humanity broken by something he refused to talk about. It had taken almost six months for her to locate where he had holed up and break down the door to drag him back to the family. It wasn’t a time anyone in the family spoke about, and Matt had never mentioned it again.

God, how long did he know? Could he prevent, no of course he couldn’t or I wouldn’t be here. Eve thought her mind still making connections. He saw this happening, somehow, perhaps he was even returned from another world? Runes, dammit he always loved the old languages, and I never saw the connection till now.

The Transport to Another World series hadn’t been a joke, it had been a failsafe. Something held out just in case what he was afraid of happened, and he wasn’t there to stop it. That was the only explanation that made sense. It also explained how her entire house managed to make the transit with her.

Is he the reason the System goes the extra mile for me? Eve thought, her mind stuttering to a halt. Is the System, what, scared of my brother?

“Wilson, do you know my brother?” Eve asked in a whisper, her voice unsteady.

The System has never encountered the entity known as Matt Smith, Lord of Destruction, The Unstoppable Beast, The Devouring Darkness, Divine Murderer…

The list went on for quite a long time before a final message appeared.

However, the System while not afraid of such a being, feels it best not to antagonize them with the death of a family member if at all possible.

Just in case.

Eve mouth hung open as she stared at the words before they faded to nothingness. It was just too much to process all at once so Eve calmly rose from her seat in the kitchen. She then proceeded to take a shower, towel off, and went to bed.

I’ll deal with this shit some other time. Eve thought as she drifted off to sleep uncaring that it wasn’t even night yet.
