Last Wish System Chapter 19

Yale was thinking about that when the system prompt appeared.
[A beast voluntarily formed a life-bound contract with the user. The Origin Qi in the user's body provoked a breakthrough in the beast's body.]
Yale looked at the little wolf with a strange face.
A Magus could use special techniques to enslave beasts to work for him. Given the usually weak body of a Magus, having a beast to buy time while casting spells was very useful.
However, Yale didn't plan to do that because he didn't have a method to do it, nor he wanted to do it.
Yale didn't want to part with the little wolf, but he thought that the little wolf's life would be better in its natural habitat rather than going with him as a slave.
Originally, Yale wanted to give freedom to the little wolf as he already was responsible for its parent's death. At least the system considered Yale as the killer of both. Moreover, taking it to the outside without a contract would provoke a calamity to the little wolf as the exit had restrictive spells to avoid any beast from leaving the Beast Trial.
What Yale didn't expect was for the little wolf itself to create a life-bound contract with him. That type of contract could seem similar to the normal one, but its nature was completely different.
A human could break the slave contract with a beast and then free the beast, but a life-bound contract created by a beast was impossible to be broken for both human and beast.
There was no way to break the contract. If the human died, the contract would also kill the beast, so it was impossible to form a second life bound contract afterward.
However, if a beast did that kind of contract, it wasn't because it wanted to become enslaved. A beast could only do that kind of contract with a human that the beast considered as its closest family. For the beast, that was a way of becoming a true family with a human.
Yale knew about the reasons behind the life-bound contract, and that moved him.
He also knew that a beast could only form that kind of contract with someone of a higher level, and he had suspicions that the little wolf had held back its breakthrough until Yale reached the 1-star Mortal so it could make the contract.
The little wolf approached Yale and rubbed its head on Yale's legs. Then, Yale seemed to hear a cute voice.
"I... want... to stay... with... big bro..."

That was the first time that Yale understood the little wolf. The words were vague as the little wolf was still too young, but their meaning was clear.
The little wolf only wanted to stay with Yale, its only family. It didn't care about freedom or complicated things; the little wolf didn't want to live alone.
After Yale saw the little wolf eating the Fire Wolf, he had considered that beasts were only beasts and that he had thought too much about the little wolf family's situation before, doubting about his first impression.
However, at that moment, he understood that he had no reason to doubt, his first impression wasn't wrong, the little wolf's desire to be with him wasn't different from a human one.
"Don't worry, you are my little sister, and I won't abandon you."
After hearing the little wolf, Yale became incapable of treating her like a beast and came to see her as his little sister. He didn't care that she was a wolf. To Yale, she was more family than any of his half-brothers in the Roanmad Clan.
Actually, besides the little wolf, Yale only considered his sister and his master as a family. The rest of the people in the clan were at most neighbors to him. As for his father, he didn't speak with him in years. He was a complete stranger to Yale.
"Right, you are still without a name. Then I will name you on behalf of your mother."
Yale thought for a while until he decided on a name.
"Your name will be Wyba!"
The little wolf seemed happy after obtaining her name, and Yale smiled.
Yale continued to pat Wyba's head as he finally went to the Quest Menu to check the new sub-quest.
[Upgrade Tri-sword and Spark equally until level 5. Reward: Combined Skill Tri-sparkling Sword.]
That sub-quest wanted Yale to equally train both skills; when he leveled up one to level two, the other should also be upgraded to level two before the first one went to level three. It should remain in that way until both were level five; otherwise, the sub-quest would fail.
Yale didn't feel that the new sub-quest was problematic because as long as he didn't use the skill, it wouldn't level up, and the reward was a combination of the two skills, which was very good.
Since Yale had turned ten years old, he should leave the Beast Trial quickly; he already was on the outskirts of the Beast Trial near the exit.
Yale carried Wyba in his arms, and after a whole year, he left the Beast Trial.

As Wyba had a contract with Yale, the restrictive spell didn't activate, and thus, she left without problems.
Yale became taller in the year he spent inside the Beast Trial, and he was clothed in beast furs as his original clothes became almost completely destroyed when he battled against the Fire-wood Tiger.
Swordmad, who was waiting for him outside, became shocked at Yale's appearance, but it wasn't because he was taller or because he had those fur clothes, it was because Yale was holding Wyba in his arms.
Yale had only just turned ten years, so there were only two ways for him to make a contract with a beast inside the Beast Trial.
The first was that he had good luck, and he had used a slave contract in a weak beast near him just after reaching 1-star Mortal.
The other was that Yale managed to gain the full trust of the beast, and the beast formed a life-bound contract on its own.
And both ways required that Yale had already become a 1-star mortal, which meant reaching the 1-star just after turning ten.
However, Swordmad knew that Yale had training methods bestowed by the Nacesai Academy, so that fact wasn't surprising to him.
Swordmad was conflicted as he thought about the two possibilities. Both seemed difficult, although he knew that one had to be correct.
Yale saw his master and bowed towards him.
"Master, she is Wyba. I adopted her as my little sister."
Yale went directly to present Wyba towards his master; he wanted to avoid any misunderstanding. Wyba was Yale's little sister and not Yale's slave; Yale didn't want his master to have the wrong idea.
Swordmad eyes almost pop out when he heard Yale. Swordmad knew that Yale always had lacked family love, but he didn't expect that his disciple would adopt a little wolf as a younger sister.
"That is great. You got a cute little sister."
However, Swordmad was also an eccentric, so he was happy to see that Yale was unconventional and didn't get restricted by what the people thought was normal.
Furthermore, after seeing Yale and Wyba, Swordmad was sure that they had formed a life-bound contract and not a slave one. It was extremely difficult to have a life-bound contract with a beast, so Swordmad felt proud of his disciple.
However, Swordmad also had something to tell Yale.
"Originally, you should have your talents tested today, but..."
Swordmad didn't know how to speak with Yale because he feared that Yale would rage after hearing it.
"Your father said that you at most you can only have waste talents and testing them isn't worthy of spending any resources from the clan because you already have the qualifications to join the Nacesai Academy beforehand and that they could probably revoke your qualifications after they saw how your talents are waste..."
After taking some air, Swordmad said another sentence.
"I think that your father has mental problems."
After his words, Swordmad carefully observed Yale reaction. Swordmad's last words were only a whisper that Yale shouldn't have heard.
However, after obtaining the Frost Wolf bloodline, Yale's hearing improved a lot, so he heard Swordmad last words.
"Then, there is no need to test anything, and I don't consider that man my father anyway. I don't care about what he thinks about me. The only paternal figure I have had in my life is you, master."
Swordmad was surprised by the calmed reaction of Yale and became happy to see that Yale had matured more than expected in the Beast Trial. Swordmad also liked Yale as if he was his son. He never had descendants, but he had that feeling towards all of his disciples.
On the other hand, Yale was rather happy about not having to test his Innate Talents in the clan.
Because he had too many and with the system, they could change easily, if his talents became too well known and he increased them later, the situation would look too strange and would give too much trouble, and Yale preferred to avoid that.
If Yale wanted, Swordmad would be able to force the clan to test him, but that would make Yale's relation with his biological father even worse. As Yale himself didn't mind, Swordmad wouldn't force anything, although he was curious about his disciple's talents.
Swordmad never believed that Yale had bad talent as he trained Yale with the sword and saw his potential. Swordmad was sure that Yale had at least an amazing Innate Talent with the sword.
"If there's no testing, then I will go to the Nacesai Academy right away."
Yale already had the qualifications to enter, so he didn't need to go through any test or official recruiting ceremonies. He could directly enter after he turned ten whenever he wanted.
Yale didn't have anything more to do inside the clan, and as he had very limited time, so he chose to leave immediately.

Thief of Time
[Participant in the Royal Road Writathon challenge] Book 1: The Legend of Tot Synopsis: Claud Primus, a self-declared master thief, has a simple goal. To live forever. It's a rather easy task, for miraculous objects called lifestones are able to extend one's lifespan. These lifestones are best found in the treasuries of nobles, lovely resorts that Claud pays a visit to every so often. Unfortunately, one of those nightly visits go awry, and Claud is forced to escape with just a single lifestone and a box in hand. Normally, that's when things die down. The guards yawn, the gates close, and the night continues. But this time, the night isn't that forgiving. A dozen schemes result in the murder of someone important, and with a convenient scapegoat — Claud — at hand, it doesn't take long for him to be framed as a heinous criminal, wanted for the indirect murder of someone high up...and it just gets worse from there. Book 2: The Moon Lords' Rise Synopsis: As ordered chaos sweeps across Licencia, Claud leaves for Julan Barony, intent on making some profits there. Accompanied by the erstwhile heiress of Julan, a fellow member of the Moon Lords, the two plot against the barony's wealth...as well as a promise to bring about its downfall. Meanwhile, back home, the Moon Lords have busied themselves with digesting their gains. Eyes, however, are beginning to turn to this proverbial fish in a small pond. The fishermen are coming. When they cast their hook, what will Dia and the others do? Book 3: Murders under the Moons Synopsis: In the sleepy town of Nachtville, where Claud and Lily are forced to stop at, a set of nasty murders occurs. Victims scream out in fright, before a spear falls from the sky to end their suffering. Cowed and cautious, the master thief and his partner slink in the shadows, their objective that of home... A new task, however, has fallen on Dia. With a trusty helper at her side, she has to set off towards Nachtville itself, to solve the mystery Claud had abandoned. Faced with an enemy whose sole skillset is geared towards killing, how will they succeed? And what dark secrets will they find? Book 4: In the Dark of the Moons Synopsis: The year has ended. The four months of the full moons will soon be followed by two months of the new moons. Duke Istrel's ascension is around the corner. Amidst this political upheaval, Count Nightfall, Licencia's strongest defender, has been called away. The Moon Lords' largest task yet — to protect Licencia in the absence of its ruler — has begun. And yet, trouble is unrelenting. A distinguished personage, one that Claud fears, has been found dead in the county, his brains dug out and his body disemboweled. The inquisitors of the White Church have been dispatched to investigate and apprehend the murderer...as well as the person behind this puppet. Tormented by a call to fight, Claud directs his eyes out of the city, looking for the puppetmaster. Skulking in the shadows, the master thief will soon confront his greatest foe yet. A foe just like him. Book 5: Moonlit Tides and Darkened Seas Synopsis: A new era has begun. For the privileged, the sands of time dribble away for every passing moment, counting down to the arrival of a entity of mythical proportions. The night now harbours shadows and fog, and operatives of the Moons and the Dark clash in shadow. Claud, as usual, is investigating a spate of nasty disappearances in the city, but little does he know what these disappearances truly mean. And yet, a tide is coming. When it finally breaks, what will he do? Book 6: Secrets in Shadow Synopsis: The person behind a strike that would enter the annals of history flees his home, bringing with him the person closest to his heart into a new land and into a new world. Having left Istrel for the first time in his life, the two of them attempt to settle down in foreign lands, only to be caught in the middle of hostilities between two mighty powers grappling for dominion. Yet, none of that has anything to do with him. Following his desires, Claud eventually makes his way to the fabled Celestia Ruins, a fragment of another world. Bearing witness to truths he cannot yet comprehend, he returns from his exploration, a small break away from the machinations of destiny. One thing, however, is for certain. Destiny will not wait for him. Book 7: Reddest Rage Synopsis: Destiny churns on, heedless of mortal machinations, and Claud watches as the battlegrounds between the Moons and the Dark are drawn up. With the forces of the great Dark occupying Lostfon, Claud comes to a startling realisation — that he may have very well be a murderer of heinous proportions. Grappling with that realisation, he struggles to prepare for his Second Tutorial... Back in Istrel, Dia finds herself confronted with a perennial truth. Even in a time of writhing destiny, the machinations between nobles never cease to end — and unfortunately for her, the group once known as the Moon Lords are forced into dealing with a petty squabble between two counts. What they didn't account for, however, was the startling discovery they would soon make... And the shadow of the Red God's Holy Son behind it all. Book 8: Darkness Descends Synopsis: Nightmares haunt the horizon as Claud sinks and awakens from a seeming dream. What was once illusory begins to play out before him, in a way he cannot imagine. The Dark descends, the Moons writhe, and the horns of war blow once more. But this is not their battle. Not yet. Book 9: Moons Muster Synopsis: As more and more events fall into place, Claud finds himself desperate. Not for himself, but for the person who has turned into his world. With that as solace, he returns to the grim task of understanding and seeking, revisiting an ancient, shattered fragment of another world...unleashing changes that he never knew was possible. Back in Istrel, Dia and the others must now navigate around a familiar spirit, who seeks to investigate the death of his master's Bearer. With them as prime suspects, the Seekers of Life must move carefully...but the Coloured Gods are not the only divinities eyeing them closely. The Moons, bristling from repeated defeats, are looking for new recruits, and the Seekers of Life are prime cannon fodder. Above all, destiny marches on, the unfeeling clock a warning to all.
