I quickly look around the room and find two others, one is a noble and the other is an imperial guard. I was not expecting to have to deal with this kind of thing right off the bat. I take a look behind me at Lyrica, but she doesn't seem to have sensed anything.

The emperor and empress stand up, drawing my attention back to them. The emperor is around six feet tall with dark hair and a decently muscled body. He may not be a warrior, but he definitely takes good care of himself.

The empress is only a little shorter than him, beautiful, and has long blonde hair. She looks enough like Shiro for me to think that they are probably related. If so, that would explain how someone as young as Shiro got such an important position.

Emperor Amn says "Welcome, King Ash. Thank you for coming. My name is Emperor Amn and this is my wife, Empress Atesh."

Empress Atesh says "Welcome to our empire, King Ash. My daughter says good things about you."

"Your daughter? Oh, Shiro. I thought I saw a resemblance. Although, you don't look old enough to be her mother."

Emperor Amn laughs and says "Stop flirting with my wife or I will tell Shiro to go back and tell yours."

"Alright, point taken. Let's not start a war. Especially since you have a serious demon problem."

Emperor Amn says "We don't know how bad the infiltration is, hence why we want a staff made."

"Well, I can show you, but you will need to trust me for a few minutes."

Empress Atesh says "Shiro said that she felt that she could trust you and I trust my daughter's instincts. Tell me what you need."

"I need to do something that will look bad, but I need you to take no action for a minute."

Emperor Amn says "You all heard him. No one is to move without my order! Go ahead, King Ash."

I have been working on an idea for a spell the entire time we have been talking. While it probably isn't structured enough for the system to recognize, I think it will work. Targeting the guard, the noble, and the woman beside the emperor, I activate the spell.

As soon as I release the spell, black chains erupt from the ground beneath the three of them. The chains wrap around them to restrain them and begin absorbing demonic power. The only reason that I think it will work is because I used demonic power for a while.

The main problem is that it takes some time to absorb all of their power. Meaning that they still look human during this time, which is why I was worried about being attacked. Luckily, while he is surprised, the emperor keeps his cool and waits to see what happens.

The three demons try to struggle against the chains using their demonic power. This actually makes it easier for the chains to absorb all of their power. The best way to fight against the chains would be to suppress their own power and starve them.

The chains use the demonic power that they absorb to reinforce themselves. Without that they would be fairly easy to break, but with it they are extremely strong. All the demons' struggles are pointless and in about two minutes they run out of power.

As soon as they run out of demonic power, their shapeshifts fail and they return to normal. Seeing the three return to their demon forms, everyone quickly backs away from them. Even the emperor and empress move away from the woman who was next to them.

Lyrica yells "Demons?!?!"

"Are you really just now noticing? What kind of an angel are you if you can't sense demons?!"

Empress Atesh says "Now I understand why you were worried. At first, it did look like you were attacking people randomly. I am sorry for doubting you before they revealed their true forms."

"It's fine. Thank you for trusting me and letting the chains do their work. The demons are completely drained of power and cannot gain any unless the chains are removed. This means that they cannot suicide or do anything to escape. At least, low rank demons like these can't escape."

Emperor Amn says "I can't believe that one of my advisors was a demon! She has served me faithfully for years, but now I will need to re-examine every piece of advice she ever gave me."

Empress Atesh says "Well, now her arguing against inviting Ash to come here makes more sense."

Emperor Amn says "Yes. It is a good thing that I didn't let her convince me. Who knows what their long term plans might have been and without Ash we would have never known about them. Guards, kill these demons!"

"Ah, actually can you hold off on that for a minute?"

Emperor Amn quickly orders the guards to stop, but even so two of the demons are already dead. Luckily, the demon that was impersonating a noble was a bit further away than the other two. Even so, the guards barely stop themselves from finishing him off.

Lyrica says "Don't tell me that you plan to spare the demon?!"

Emperor Amn says "Ash, did you need the demons for something?"

"I have been attempting to make a device that would allow anyone to detect demons, even when they are shapeshifted. Unfortunately, I need to examine a live demon in order to do so and they are difficult to capture."

Empress Atesh says "It didn't seem difficult for you."

"This is the first time that I have been able to get in the same room as a demon since I started looking."

Emperor Amn says "I can see why they would be trying to avoid you. You can do whatever you want to the demon and if there is anything you need just say it."

Giving a nod to the emperor, I walk over to the trapped demon and reach out to touch him. As soon as my finger touches him, I send a torrent of mana raging through the demon. It seems to be painful from the way the demon starts screaming, but I don't care.

All I care about is getting an accurate read on the demon and the frequency of his lifeforce. If I can learn the frequency, then I can scan for demons like I do for the elves. That is assuming that their shapeshift doesn't change the frequency, but I doubt it.

If the demon's shapeshift were that good then it would also hide their aura from me. Searching for demonic power would only work if the demons were actively using it. The mana scan provides me with the information that I think I need and I start crafting a prototype.
