《The Undying Magician》B3 | Chapter 53 - The Next Hurdle

Year 2850 | Month 12 | Day 24
I don’t even manage to make it out of the forest before the next incident happens. One in the form of some sort of previously invisible barrier shattering high in the sky. Which basically just looks like glass shattering high in the sky.
But that’s not all as I sense some sort of death magic barrier that was quickly put up less than a second before the other barrier shattered. Something I can only likely sense due to my use of death mana.
That can’t be good. Not good at all.
I stare up at the sky for several seconds before sprinting at a much faster pace than before out of the Dark Forest and quickly make for the Undying Caverns. And as I run, I see flashes of light clashing high in the sky rather far away. So far away that I can only barely see it with my enhanced vision.
What’s going on?
There appear to be three different sources of light clashing. One that’s purple and blue, one that’s black and red, and one that’s black and purple.
Two of them I recognize very well.
Space magic would be the purple and blue one, and death magic the black and purple one.
But the third I’ve only heard of in passing. At least for this deeper shade with more black than red.
The only red and black magic affinities I have heard of are destruction magic – like with Rachel, whose magic is nowhere near strong enough to do what I believe is going on over there – and anti-magic. And if a space mage is part of the fight, then…
I frown.
No, would the doctor really… no, I can’t see him doing it… but would he?
Would the doctor really lead the Republic straight to the Kingdom of the Fallen just to get a chance at me? Because while it’s pretty obvious that the best magic to shatter the skeleton’s barrier is anti-magic – it’s the best magic to combat any other type of magic – would he really risk his self-described test subject?

I can’t see that bastard doing it. Unless he’s desperate.
Wait a second…

Come to think of it, how old was the doctor?
I frown as I run, but I can’t remember. Somewhere in his sixties I think?
His hair is so gray it’s pretty much white at this point. And I’m pretty sure I remember reading some notes in his lab before about an illness.
Just how many years does he even have left to live?
That would explain desperate actions at least. Assuming this is him.
I decide to put aside those thoughts for now as I continue rushing straight to the Undying Caverns, accepting a call from my second in command while running, with my terminal raised to my ear.
“Your Majesty, we have a problem!” Claire practically shouts into the terminal. “The barrier around the kingdom has shattered! The Kingdom of the Fallen has been exposed to the other nations of the world in its real form!”
Right. I almost forgot the barrier was also hiding the reality of the Kingdom of the Fallen from any form of scrying done by the other nations on the mainland. So all they saw when they tried scrying the Kingdom was a destroyed continent filled with the walking dead.
Supposedly a defensive measure set in place by the Duke. The one at Class A.
And the skeleton replaced it with his own barrier when he was freed.
“Have we any word from our scouts in the Outer Ring?” I ask in response with a frown on my face as I arrive in front of the Undying Caverns.
“Affirmative, Your Majesty,” she answers right away. “It looks like your father and two other powerful assumed Class S magicians are floating high above the ground right over the shore of the Kingdom of the Fallen. And they’re currently locked in three-way combat with each other.”

“And of the two other than Adalwolf an old man with nearly white hair wearing a lab coat and a middle-aged man with black a hair and glowing red eyes with black surrounding the red instead of white?” I ask her as I step straight past the people lined up to enter the Undying Caverns, with each one of them stepping aside the moment they see me. And the guards all saluting me when I pass by them.
“They are,” Claire answers, making my frown deepen. “Do you know them, Your Majesty?”
“One of them, yes, but the other I’ve never met,” I tell her as I walk through the tunnels. “I’ve only heard of him and seen him on the news. He’s the Chairman of the Arcadian Republic. And you’re right, they’re both Class S magicians just like Adalwolf. One is a space magic magician and the other an anti-magic magician.”
“Space… and anti-magic…” she mutters, sounding rather distressed to hear that.
Which is perfectly understandable.
Neither are particularly nice affinities to end up fighting.
But if they’re in a three-way, and in Adalwolf’s home turf which is filled with miasma, things should be fine. This won’t be their real battle. They’re just testing each other.
Those two would never start an all-out battle against Adalwolf in his own territory. Not without cleaning it up of miasma first.
Because a Class S magician is always stronger around their own element. It gives them something natural to work with after all, and it’s possible to drain mana from the substance if you’re a Class S and can freely manipulate mana.
The only reason Leodmir tried before was because he uses space magic. Which is present everywhere and is great for surprise attacks.
After his surprise is gone though, he wouldn’t be able to beat Adalwolf. Especially not in the Dark Forest.
I grit my teeth as I march on through the tunnels of the Undying Caverns, passing by one person after another without paying them any mind.
And right after we dealt with that baron too…
I frown at that before shaking my head and continuing on.

Ars Magica
Our vision comes back into focus. Our eyes, while being able to perceive the immediate surroundings, still leave us with our minds uncomprehending towards what is actually occurring. Sure, there are definitive things that we can focus on, like the fact that we're either out upon the open sea or the open ocean, there not being much of a difference with no land in sight, as well as the fact that we appear to be upon a haphazardly constructed metal boat, whose seams are barely able to keep a hold of themselves in the crashing waves. However, that does not let us understand what exactly is causing the waves in the first place. If we were to rewind time, we'd find ourselves upon a calm sea under a peaceful sky with the only difference, being a small whirlpool that would be the precursor towards this uproar around the boat. Lightning flashes in the sky, with no clouds being near, and anyone actually manning the boat has either died towards the cause of the smashing tides in the first place, or are fighting amongst the flashes of lightning, all while trying not to become devoured, demolished, and utterly decimated by the beast roiling in the whirling waves. To better understand exactly what is happening here, there is one singular event that needs to be understood, that needs to be explained, and that is the arrival of a creature named Dave. Stepping back from current events and going towards this creature's first appearance in the world, we begin to hear the sound of water slowly dripping across rocky ground. The cavern is utterly silent except for this one constant, its cause feeding channels downwards, sloping towards cracks in the rubble along the floor from broken stalagmites and stalactites. And there, lying on top of something which had fallen over recently, judging from its cracks, is a person, the creature named Dave. His form is fast asleep, either from the impact or from an intoxication, judging from the smell upon its breath. A bright light suffuses into it for a second, giving life towards the pale skin, before it slowly dies down back to the comfortable black of the cave that it's within. Before this moment in time, Dave did not exist in the physical world. At least, not in the reality that he finds himself born into. We do not know whether or not his existence is simply a cosmic joke, or something that is being played out on purpose. All that we do know, is that one moment, the body was not in the cave, and simply formed in the next. The actual earliest time that we know Dave exists, is the interpolation of the memories of J-209, which we'll begin looking into shortly to gain context towards the coming narrative that is being written and hastily trying to keep itself written. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Warning: This story has several things which might turn its readers away. The first is that this story has shifting points of perspective. Don't worry about that previous sentence too much though, as the main character will always have a first person perspective associated with them. However, any other character from which we're viewing the story from will either be in third-person, as we are not necessarily in their shoes at the moment, or in first person, given that the narrator is an actual physical presence within the story. For the most part, chapters will be self-contained with their perspectives, so there will not be an abundance of switching perspectives within the same chapter. The most that an average reader would have to worry about is the fact that perspectives can switch between chapters. The second thing is that the main character is a bit on the 'special' side of things. He's not exactly mentally there most of the time, so there will be some times that his personality or his thoughts do not actively align with his actions. The third, and final thing of importance, is the fact that past the first couple of chapters, nothing has been planned in advance. There are arcs and plots that I want to do, want to implement, or have already been set into motion from our main character's introduction to the world, but the method that I use for my story writing and generating leads towards a bit more random chance being enabled. Basically...there's a lot of dice rolling behind the scenes. To not complicate the story further than its regular LitRPG elements, the rolls will not be publicly available. However, there will be knowledge within the author's notes on whether or not there were positive or negative critical rolls that had occurred within the chapter. You have been warned. Updates: Mondays & Fridays (Schedule permitting) Typical Chapter Length: (2,000-3,000)

Contact Through Voided Lenses
[participant in the Royal Road Writathon challenge] Edit: Fixed some inaccuracies in the synopsis. The void is a vast unexplored ocean filled with various wonders and dangers all waiting to be explored by those brave enough to travel and record. Many souls do find themselves brave enough to face the vast distances, the various risks to personal safety and do the hundreds of task required on a craft. However, at times the void itself can be boring with absolutely nothing to do but as time pass and more and better technology is reached, things got better. The various trips got faster, communications became faster than light and you can be home to see your loved ones after only months now. Through the various planets whether rocky or gaseous, the various stars whether small or giant, the various systems both eerily similar or completely alien. As part of an expeditionary scientific exploratory survey craft, one could see that the void offers no reprieve from all the discoveries and wonders. At times, it can feel empty and silent where no soul can hear you scream and at others it can be overwhelming with sudden phenomenon that can overwhelm the brightest of minds. The void itself is a truly fascinating ocean where one must chart the various islands or drown in its deadly tidal waves. But the question still remained no matter how you try to hide it in of itself… is there truly other intelligent life out there? Are we alone in this ocean? Those very questions still haunt the minds of those on the crafts themselves as they brace for every jump ready for the unknown and the known. Many would try to explain that yes there is other intelligent life out there whilst other still say no after 2 centuries of continuous flight out of the home system. Still, those are questions that bury deep in the minds of the crew and those at home as the voidcraft jumps to a system with a single yellow star orbited by 8 other planets with one crowning blue jewel being the 3rd closest with its 5 oceans and 7 continents, a planet called Dirt which is inhabited by a primitive species called Humanity. Hello, author here and this is my newest dive into writing particularly for the Writathon currently in progress being my first one. I hope you give me story a try but in case you still want more information on what you’re getting into, below are some pointers about the story itself. First Contact: CTVL is a story about a first contact scenario between an advanced alien civilization and a slightly more advanced modern day humanity on their planet called Dirt. Characters: The story will take place mainly on the perspective of the alien visitors themselves though there will be human POV characters who will show how the rest of humanity react through media and forums. Action: It won’t be an actual alien invasion but you have to see for yourself how well first contact went. Sci-Fi: I will be very forward here, I WILL bend the rules of physics in order to add in parts of the plot and there WILL be parts that makes absolutely no sense whatsoever. Theme: It will be a brooding story talking about the futility of pe… Just kidding, it’s mostly wholesome stuff to be honest here. Alien: The aliens themselves will… actually why should I tell you, you have to go and read it to find out what the aliens are though I will draw a few things here and there to aid in the process. Extra tidbit: If you are a grammar nazi or someone who really wants a realistic scifi story... this story is probably not for you at all. Anyways, that’s pretty much all I can say before I spoil something major of the plot itself, the story is slice of life so make sure that type of story is what you like because I am terrible with anything else as I found out, anyways, have a good time everyone and good luck to the other Writathon participants.

Blood & Honey #1
~A Wattys and Fiction Award winner*A lion does not need an invitation from a lamb. That is not the way of the predator. Predators take what they want, when they want it, however they please. And this belief that I am, that evil is, enslaved by the dark night is humorous to say the least. Why would any creator make their pupil inept of withstanding the lighted world when this planet is covered in daylight for half of its life span? No, our Maker did not instill such restrictions for, up here on these earthly lands, we are the gods of prey. ~ Tristan There is only one rule vampires must follow--Bite Hard. It is forbidden for humans to know vampires exist so you can imagine Tristan Darkos's surprise when he finds one that knows what he is. He can tell by the tremble of her body, the thump-thump of her pulse, and her dilated pupils. He's going to have to finish what some other vampire started. The problem is when Tristan gets close to this human his blood turns to fire and the thirst that burns in his throat that should spell her doom twists until he's consumed by another need--one that is evocative, primitive, and...wrong.If Tristan doesn't figure out the mystery that is Kinley Shea Rylan, it is certain whatever dark force her honey blood is summoning forth will be the end of him and, possibly, the end of the world as we know it. ~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~ Author note: - This is an original work with my take on Vampires.
