when Innis started walking. Stooped over, he leant heavily

on his walking stick out of breath. He coughed and saw

specks of blood on his hand.

Innis slowly straightened up and waited for the dizzyness

to pass.

He knew the top of the hill was close.

"Come on old fella," he said to himself, "one last time."

Innis sat on the low stone wall lookout. The view across

the valley was smothered and lost in the mist.
