《Mortem Comedenti(Death Eater)》Chapter 63: Soulfire(VI)

The creature's head ducked low as its body lifted higher in the air with power flaps of its wings. A rush of wind blasted Kenan and his compatriots as the draconic avian flew over, shadowing them for a brief moment.
“By the gods.” Oz said. “Naki-Uthai help me, it's a dragon.”
Doco breathed in sharply. He looked over the town, judging the amount of damage the thing had already done. Screams and wails sounded out. From the acid destroyed buildings and land, large stems of alien vegetation grew. Whipping around and striking at the air at random. “It’s a wyvern.” He said, absently.
Kenan involuntarily entered the chilled state of Vatr. He gripped his sword as tightly as possible. The hackles on the back of Dion's neck rose as he growled. “We have to get that thing on the ground. Quickly.”
The wyvern turned once more, and was converging towards Kenan. Instead of simply flying overhead, it stopped short of the wall and hovered. A faint greenlight started at its chest and traveled up to its neck.
Ozzy began to command mana to form runes on his hammer. Arrows flew at the creature, most simply skidding off of its scale with a minority sticking. Noctis brought up his sword, at the tip a condensed ball of soulfire formed and turned over itself at a rapid pace. As the stream of deadly acid flew from the wyvern, Kenan pushed even more power into his sword and brought forth a column of fire. The two forces met.
Immediately Noctis knew it was an uphill battle. He pushed as much power into the magical tug of war as he could afford. Yet, the acid only encroached further, burning the edges of the wall, and turning it into the equivalent of melted wax. Suddenly a yellow wall was placed between the two powers, Kenan released his concentration. The wyvern's acid bounced off harmlessly.

In response, the creature roared in anger. It dived on to the dome. Giving Kenan a better idea of its scope as it totally covered the protective magical structure. Its large talons on the ends of its wings tried to dig for its prey, huge fangs dripping with acid snatched at the dome. After a minute of frenzy, it roared once more before flying off.
Quickly the dome formed cracks and broke completely. Ozzy started to catch his breath. “How in the hells are we going to get it down?” Oz asked. “I mean I can throw my ax….” The wyvern went for another pass of the town. Furthering its destruction.
“No time.” Kenan said. From his belt he produced a large piece of charcoal. Soulfire suddenly roared from it, then it was silenced as Noctis put magical clamps down. Compressing the power and heating it to an unnatural degree. Dion put forth his own power to upgrade the attack even more. The charcoal at this point became a burning globe of spinning teal flame. “Uncle. I’ll make sure it doesn’t explode, can you shoot it?”
Doco grunted. Kenan’s concentration lessened a hair. It flew in the air around them totally without his command. “It seems that I can.”
“After it’s down, help evacuate the city. If this thing lands inside walls, start around that area first. Order the guards to stay away from the fight, they are only a hindrance.” Kenan said. “Find Jorun and make sure he is safe. Above everyone else. I made a promise. Oz, Ozzy. I can count on you for this battle?”
Ozzy gave a half-yelp in anger. “Who the fuck do you think you are?! We wouldn’t miss this chance even if it meant giving up ale! By the great Manethak, mark my words.” Oz said.

Kenan nodded. Then looked over to Doco. “Go for it.”
The small ball of fire started to revolve the other way the flame wanted to go. Faster and faster it spun, eventually going so fast it was a homogeneous blur. The wyvern was in a perpendicular line to them and in the air with bodies in its clutches. The fireball flew off at an impossible pace. It curved for a moment before correcting its trajectory. Then, it impacted the side of the creature. All three, Dion, Doco, and Kenan released their attention.
In the air, a storm of fire consumed the creature. The wyverns silhouette and outline fighting the torrents of devouring flame. A horrible screech sounded out, as it tried to gain altitude but failed under the grasp of soulfire. It fell, crashing into the ground and crushing multiple buildings in its flailing.
Dion and the gray brothers jumped from the wall to the ground. Kenan was about to do the same when he was stopped by Doco’s grasp Noctis turned. “Remember nephew, you have people waiting for you back home.”
“And people are dying here.” Kenan said. A moment passed, Doco smirked and nodded. Letting go.
Noctis crouched, pumping Qi into his muscles, and propelled himself forward. At the top of the arc, he saw the creature start to orient itself and try to staunch the growing fire on its body in multiple ugly attempts. As he landed, he used more Qi to brace the impact. Rolling, he righted himself and continued. Not only was he caught up to the group, but in front of it.
The group had to dodge screaming and running citizens. Many were frozen, crying and wailing. Some brave souls waited behind and helped with rescue efforts and evacuation. Soldiers were around doing the same, but many were fighting the growing alien vegetation.
In a clearing, past the running citizens. Was a boy looking up, hopeless and crying. Yelling. Kenan’s ears blocked out the noise. Unwilling to hear properly. A large, half dead draconic head was moving towards the child.
Noctis used a large chunk of power to arrive at high speed. Going faster than he ever had before. Dion matched his speed. In a blink they both were in close proximity. Time slowed. Kenan slid, bringing the child into his arms as the continued momentum allowed them both to pass through the space of the creature's open toothy maw. Dion jumped, lowering his head and shifting his body. Shoulder checking the wyvern's head and flinging the creature's entire dome away.
Noctis continued running, away from the scene. Soon he came to a young soldier leading citizens away. A familiar man with a pike in hand. Kenan set the child down, ignoring the kid's yells. Nodded to the young man, and set off to handle the situation.

The world traveler from the future
The world, under the guide of the System, was prospering. The Dungeons gifted untold riches to those brave enough to challenge them, and the System watched and helped those who were willing to complete its Quests. But not Charles. As soon as he appeared inside a dark cave, the system told him that he was an anomaly, that he was not worthy of its gifts. His mind was damaged. His AI companion was convinced that he was in a world of sword and magic. All around, schemers and manipulators tried to play their part in a story that was thousands of years old. Spanning entire planes and worlds. And yet, he only saw what he wanted to see. For a while, it worked. Slowly, but inevitably, it became impossible. The threat was too big to ignore, the evidence too strong. He was just a pawn in a game so large that it was impossible to comprehend. At its center, the System. The System was not what it seemed. It was a tyrant, or maybe just a tool created by someone or something so powerful that it could control entire worlds. And it had declared him its enemy. Legendary swordsmen, whose feats are hailed and names known far and wide. Many wish to be one, but few have the dedication to follow the path of the blade all the way through, with all of the trials and tribulations that entails. But those who reach the end can become something far greater than they once were. Great warriors aren’t born, they’re forged. A coming-of-age story mixed with a Martial journey story. Think Youxia, Musha Shogyou, or Knight Errant. A martial arts and action heavy story with a focus of slow progression, and detailed character development over time. One protagonist, but a significant amount from other character's POVs, and a notable amount of focus on other character's development. Disclaimer:Title/cover is metaphorical, no literal forging as of this time.

A tiny change to the sequence of events, an entirely different story. Some bloody scenes, but no worse than the original story offered.
