《The Legacy of Gilgamesh》Chapter 42 Ancient Tomb 3

The city lords of Harold and Frith, respectively, made the decision to cover up the chilling contents of the mural in the Chamber of Death for fear of the wrath of God. The murals and slabs hold truths that could lead to the downfall of empires, and the city lords were concerned about being the first casualties. Instead of rushing to find the treasure, they proceeded with caution to avoid causing any harm to the Chamber of History. Despite their desire for wealth, they were mindful of the potential consequences of their actions and wished to protect the historical significance of the chamber.
Seven days after their cautious exploration, the city lords finally uncovered the entrance to the final stone chamber, revealing a cavernous space that could fit a city within its walls. Upon entering the chamber, the gravediggers were horrified to find that it was not just filled with hills of gold, silver, and glittering gems, but with the remains of countless individuals who had been bury with the riches of this mythical city of gold. Skeletons littered the ground, some still clutching at their treasures, others twisted in eternal agony. The torchlight shone upon the macabre scene, illuminating the piles of bones and the reflection of the glittering riches in the eyes of the dead.
"Gaia be blessed, look at all this gold!" the Lord of Harold exclaimed in amazement.
"It's a world of gold, enough treasure for us to become kings!" Acus shouted, his senses finally returning to him.
The two city lords shared a laugh, their hearts racing with excitement and their eyes shining with greed. They could not believe the sheer amount of riches that lay before them, enough to solve world hunger several times over.
However, their joy was short-lived as they soon became aware of the tension building between their respective soldiers. The atmosphere grew heavy and tense, and the two city lords found themselves unconsciously taking several steps back from one another. They looked at each other strangely, each sensing the other's greed and distrust.

The realization that the wealth could cause a rift between them and their forces was palpable, and the two city lords were suddenly unsure of how to proceed.
"Over there, look! I see several torch handles, nestled between the pillars," exclaimed a sharp-eyed knight, pointing towards a distant corner of the cavern.
With excitement, the lords and their knights quickly rushed over to the torches, and in no time, they had lit the entire cave with a brilliant, blazing light. The fire from the torches was brighter than any other source of light they had ever seen, illuminating the cavern with a dazzling brightness that seemed to outshine even the sun itself. The gold, silver, and gems shone with a brilliance never before seen, and the knights marveled at the sight before them, as if they had stepped into a world bathed in the light of a thousand stars.
The firelight danced and flickered, casting long, distorted shadows across the walls of the cavern, adding to the eerie beauty of the scene. It was a moment that the knights would never forget, as they basked in the dazzling glow of the untold riches within the Chamber of Death.
''It seems that the founding times hold much more than just gold,'' Lord Altvin muttered quietly, but loud enough for the ears of Lord Acus to catch his words.
”The river of time has worn down this chamber, just like the paintings on its walls. Thousands of years old, and yet the torch still burns brightly and the canvas still looks fresh. The ancient skill and wisdom displayed here is far beyond anything seen in this era,'' Acus bitterly added, as he too was well-versed in many fields of study.
Most of the wisdom of the Holy Empire had been lost, the reason unknown. Some say that humanity's knowledge had come too close to that of the gods, and as a result, they suffered divine retribution. The once-great empire plunged into chaos and was never able to regain its former glory. The knowledge that lay hidden within the Chamber of Death was a testament to the incredible wisdom and virtuosity of the ancients, and the two lords couldn't help but feel a sense of awe and wonder at the knowledge that lay within their reach.

The chamber was now fully lit, and the two city lords, along with their men, could finally see the full extent of the cave. The cave was massive, reaching heights of over 100 meters and covering a sprawling area. However, at first glance, only the central area of the cave was visible. As they moved deeper into the chamber, they encountered a high platform, where the piles of gold and gems rose to a level that was slightly elevated from the ground.
The two city lords and their men approached the high platform, their feet crunching on the sparkling gold beneath them. However, their minds were not on the riches at their feet, but rather on what lay atop the high platform. The air was thick with anticipation as they climbed the steps to reach the summit, their eyes fixated on the unknown. What secrets lay hidden there, just waiting to be discovered?
