《From the Ashes》43 Escape

As The guild leader for sorcery stood there on the planes before the Blasted Lands Kadin finally got his first good look at her, a bright red robe tied around her shoulders she had on simple sandals and red dyed leather bottoms that were quite tight and fit her body well, there were straps and buckles across each leg – it didn’t look like they were holding anything, just decorative, and a simple red linin corset that was tapered to a point just below where her bellybutton would be and same at her back leaving the sides of her stomach and waist exposed, it had decorative buttons up one side and had a pair of silver clasps by her left breast. But what caught Kadin’s attention most was her face; she looked to be in her early twenties, small delicate features, pouting red lips and her eyes were a light crystal blue. She had jet black wavy black hair that came down to just past her shoulders and she wore a simple silver tiara with some red gems in it. Even at a distance Kadin could feel the magical energies radiating off her, she saw him and made a quick grasping motion … Kadin felt his body lurch forwards as he flew through the air, out of the Blasted Lands and landed gently a good distance behind her. He saw Stealth as a black cloud that would collect for a second then shoot out in direction waving around the demon army as it marched towards the kingdom, his form never fully solidifying but as he passed, scores of demons dropped dead. Combat was also there in amongst the marching army, a vortex of blades expanding out from him in all directions and it didn’t matter the size or strength of the demons none managed to get more than a step inside Combats reach before being dropped as a lifeless husk to the ground. But despite that; the endless mass of demons and monsters marching out from the portal were making their way closer and closer to the boundary edge.

Kadin felt the magical energies around him like a wind all being pulled towards Sorcery, she stood there focusing, magical energy mounting, climbing higher and higher, he could feel it radiating off her before. But as it continued to build in and around her, he felt he could start to see it... a glow around her, a radiant white light that got brighter and brighter until he had to shield his eyes and turn away. He felt it like standing by an blazing inferno, thinking that his skin must be starting to blister, peel and crack from the energy. Kadin has always been good at magic but he couldn’t even fathom the amount of energy she was drawing in every second, even the clouds of magical energy in the Blasted Lands began being pulled towards her bolts of magical lighting streaking the sky then being absorbed completely. The grass around her feet started to wither and die, then the area started to grow out from her reaching further and further out, plants and bushes shrivelled up and died, all the trees behind her, the leaves turning brown then falling away, crumbling to nothingness before they even landed, so all that was left was the skeletal limbs of what use to be. Her power and energy were so strong that Kadin thought that everyone in the Kingdom must have felt it by now, seen it by now! A blazing second Sun on the horizon, and then some signal must have been passed between the guild leaders as Stealth and Combat stopped holding back the approaching tide of demons and flashed across the barriers – To Kadins eye it look as though they had teleported from killing hundreds one second to across the barrier the next, And then an explosion of pure unimaginable magical power left Sorcery, Kadins senses completely overwhelmed from the magical blast, he felt sure that that blast must have cracked the earth, that he would see nothing but a chasm where the blasted lands use to be.

But it was not so, his senses came back after a few second and he looked over to see Sorcery on her knees pushing herself back to her feet and the barrier between the Kingdom and the Blasted Lands a shining white wall of energy as far as he could see, the slight energies that flow and pass the barriers had stopped, no more dry windswept gusts from the blasted land, no longer could he feel anything from behind it – looking at it he knew that Sorcery had somehow made the magical barrier a physical one. A solid wall covering the whole Blasted Lands.
As Kadin quickly got to his feet he hurried over to the three guild leaders, focusing on Sorcery he asked.
“Are you ok? Do you need a hand??” she had regained her feet and still looked a little unsteady he also notices there was a line of blood running down her cheek from her right eye. More on auto pilot than he thought he brought out a handkerchief from his cloak and started to rub the blood from her cheek then he stopped dead, as he realised what he was doing. He heard Combat snicker from behind them which caused him to flush scarlet like he was some awkward kid again.. unfortunately that only made Combats snicker turn into a full on laugh. He quickly took a step back and apologised to Sorcery who seemed amused herself . But she went on to answer him with a kind smile
“I am fine, I just need a little rest.” As she said this she held out her hand for the handkerchief which Kadin, still red to his ears quickly handed over. As he did she proceeded to remove the rest of the blood from the corner of her eye. Combat had somewhat got his laughter under control but still had the occasional ‘cough’ at Kadin’s expense, desperately looking to change the subject he indicated the gleaming barrier and said.
“So will that keep us safe?”
As he said that the tone in the air completely changed to one of seriousness and Sorcery answered.
“For now – but that won’t last forever. I can feel them on the other side they are already trying to brake though.” At her words Kadin looked again to the barrier but she went on.
“It should last for about a year.. maybe a little more – but after that the barrier will break and they will be let loose on the land. We have a year to gather and prepare.. after that we will need to face the storm.”
