《From the Ashes》39 want of a firestorm

Despite what it felt like that whole fight lasted only a few moments, there were still demon parties closing in on him from all around but the nearest was still a few hundred meters away so Kadin turned towards the barrier, back to his plan of get to the forest. He started pushing himself forwards again, but the rest he had and subsequent fight meant he was not able to push forwards at a greater pace than his pursuers, being back in the open he was hesitant to use any of his magic – be he was bleeding from dozens of small cuts which were already beginning to soak through his clothing so he risked the same light healing cast he used when he passed the barrier, and again he felt the slow tingling working its way across his chest out to his arms and legs where he felt the cuts close, and again his mind cleared slightly. He was able to pick up the pace a little and already he could see the soft glow on the other horizon that was the barrier.

The demons chasing him though also seemed to be picking up the pace and they were slowly closing on him, they were still at quite the distance but every now and then one of the caster that were chasing him would try and launch an attack at him, a blue fireball hit the ground a dozen feet away from him, a black spear hit the ground off to the side where it immediately started dissipating, the occasional crack of a lightning bolt the hit the ground behind him. He needed to find a way to buy more time.

“why didn’t I save that firestorm scroll?” he said aloud to himself, with his mind still feeling like it was clearing he realised he didn’t need it.

It would take a few minutes so he would need to watch for the lighting but he looking around and saw a nearby outcropping of rocks a few large lopsided boulders with smaller stones at their base it should be enough so Kadin pushed himself towards it. As he approached it was actually a little bigger than he though the biggest boulder was about fifteen feet high leaning tipped against a smaller squat boulder that we still about ten feet, so he climber up to the rocks and nestled himself in a corner as he turned to face those that were still closing and he began to channel, pouring as much magical energy as he could pushing it to a focal point just in front of him – a blast of lighting hit the stone above him and Kadin could feel the hairs on his body stand on end but he kept going, once all his energy was focused in front of him he split it, then split it again then again, his head was starting to pound with all the effort he was putting in – another lightning bolt hit the stone just beside him a bright green light that split the stone. Kadin felt a shard of stone nick him just above the eye he saw red as a little blood trickled down to his eye – trying to blink it away he was almost finished sixteen crystallised points of magical essence were held just in front of him – almost ready. He slammed all sixteen points together as he pushed it out and away from him – the strongest spell he knew ‘elemental shard cyclone’ as all sixteen points merged together there was a cracking sound little pieces broke off in all directions and began to spin dozens of little points of light of every colour began to spin and move and expand every time two of the points came together they would break in to four and spin faster after only a few moments there was thousands of little points of light covering a hundred feet in all directions, this also seemed to have an effect on the lighting as every few second a different colour bolt would strike the ground inside the little cyclone. Kadin seen a few of the braver demons try to power past it but as soon as they entered it, little cuts appeared all over them as hundreds and hundreds of elemental shards tore their skin apart like glass.

It was hundreds of meters across my now – but it had reached its limit, and after the first few demons got shredded to ribbons the rest of the army began to spread around it to still get at him. He bought himself some time but only a few minutes. So he turned and headed on again – the edge of the boundary now visible as a slight shimmering light far ahead of him, once he passed out it would be another hour or so to get to the woodland where he should be able to escape.
