《How I Became A Jarl》Slaves Arena pt. 1

We arrived at Hakarl’s Clan land. We don’t know where Tae is but if he was sent to the arena the only place in the clan with the arena is Karnsa. It was obvious where the arena is. It’s the biggest building right in the middle of the town.
Compared to Noreka and Pure Sun this town has a visible difference between poor and rich people. The left side of the island is made of tents, old buildings, and buildings that were made by amateurs. This was the place with the most people living in. The right side of the island had buildings made of stone and bricks. They didn’t have to walk on dirt because there was pavement made of stone. Most of the people living on this side were slave merchants. Right in the middle, between the two areas was the arena.
There were two entrances to the arena. One big gate and a smaller one with guards. It was obviously for the rich people. There was definitely something happening in the arena since I could hear a big crowd shouting something.
[ Dian ]
“Are we going inside?”
[ Eric ]
“Of course! Tae might be fighting right now. Let’s go to that good-looking entrance.”
[ Dian ]
“Will they let us in?”
[ Eric ]
“Why wouldn’t they? We don’t look poor do we?”
[ Dian ]
“I don’t think so?”
[ Guard ]
“Do you have a pass?” Asked the guard as we approached him.
[ Eric ]
“No. We don’t have anything like it.”
[ Guard ]
“So pay up or go watch the match with the rest of the waste!”
[ Eric ]
“No need to shout… How much is it?”
[ Guard ]
“Twenty-five silver coins.”

For some reason, Dian thought about paying them this much. He doesn’t know the value of the money he has! For this much, you can spend one week in Sehus at a good inn with a portion of good food. I’m not paying that much to my enemy!
[ Eric ]
“We’re going…” I said as I grabbed Dian and dragged him away.
As we entered through the second gate, the big one, we had to pass through so many people. There was barely space to move around but we had to have a good view. Somehow we were able to get in front and see the whole arena. All the lower stands were packed with people. It was for the poor. As for the rich, they had a view from the very top and one separate stand close to the arena.
Whoever was fighting, they finished the battle and the winner already left. The dead guy definitely wasn’t Tae. There was no tattoo on the body. Someone took care of the body and an announcer walked into the middle of the arena.
[ Announcer ]
“The next fight will be between a new fighter under Verser’s patronage and the well-known Halster! Will Verser’s newbie surprise us? Or Halster will survive his fifth fight in the arena? Now it’s time for your bets! As for the prize pool from patrons… It’s Three golden coins!”
Three golden coins?! How rich are they?! For that money, you can have two good ships?! Build your own village! People weren’t even that surprised by the money. Like this is not a lot for the arena?
[ Crowd ]
“Halster is a save bet. After all, it’s his fifth fight almost like a guaranteed win.”
“Verser’s newbies are always something special. I’ll bet on him and earn myself some money!”

“Betting on new guys is like losing the money, you idiots!”
[ Announcer ]
“Write your bets and throw the plates to the arena!”
The whole crowd threw the stone plates into the arena. All of them. All the people are here to see the fight and earn money from that. The Clan earns so much money from slaves because of this! This is their main source of income!
[ Announcer ]
“Open the gate for Halster!”
A tall and big man only with grey pants on him. In his right hand, he holds a club. He looks like your everyday only muscles guy. He waved his club around as people were rooting for him.
[ Announcer ]
“And on the other side a rookie! Will he live the day to tell us his name?”
I looked around and couldn’t find that guy even though there were a few people rooting for him too. The match began and the big guy began to run toward us. That means the rookie is right under us. When I tried to look down someone pushed me and I fell down. I didn’t have time to react so my fall wasn’t very smooth. As the dust settled down I noticed that the big guy was now running toward me. He even tried attacking me.
[ Eric ]
“Hey! Can you stop?! I’m not the one you’re supposed to fight! Are you listening?!” I shouted as I avoided his every swing of the club.
[ Halster ]
“Your trickery won’t work on me!” He said as he kicked me. I blocked the kick but he pushed me into the wall.
[ Eric ]
“Fine… Another big guy needs a lesson.”
