Worshipper Arc. Chapter 34: The end is near.
After Valoran receives the letter that he will be given the opportunity to sit on the Magic Kings thorne to see if he’s worthy of becoming the next King of Magic he tells his Mother about the news when he arrives home with Artemsia.
“Your home.” Aelina says with excitement.
“Hello Mother.” Valoran greets stepping inside the home.
“Hello Aelina.” Artemsia also greets.
“Welcome dear, I just finished dinner. I hope you are both hungry.” Aelina relies.
“Thank you Mom.” Valoran replies.
Valoran and Artemsia help set up the table.
Valoran and Artemsia finish setting up the table.
“Thank you, you two.” Aelina says with gratitude.
Aelina hands Valoran and Artemisa a plate and sit down around the table together with Aelina.
They begin to eat dinner.
Valoran during the diner brings the news.
“Mother, I have something important to tell you.” Valoran says with a serious tone.
“What is it?” Aelina asks, slightly worried.
Valoran takes a deep breath.
Valoran pulls out the letter from his pocket and hands it to his Mother.
“Hmm a letter?” Aelina questions with curiosity.
“It will explain everything.” Valoran explains.
Aelina reads the letter.
“In three days you are to arrive at the magic kings thorne!” Aelina shouts in confusion.
“Indeed. In three days we will see if I am truly worthy of becoming the next king of magic.” Valoran confirms.
“How are you feeling about this?” Artemesia questions Aelina.
“Uhm…well…I knew that the day would soon arrive but, knowing it will be this soon is kind of short notice and caught me off guard. I do feel happiness, this is something you have worked your entire life for.I am so happy for you” Aelina explains.
“That's great, Mother.” Valoran says with relief.
“How are you feeling about this Valoran?” Aelina questions.
Valoran looks at this Mother.
“I feel conflicted, on one hand I am happy to be this close to becoming the next King of Magic, on the other hand I do feel anxious on the fact that there is the possibility that the throne will not recognise me as the King of Magic.” Valoran says with worry.

“I have zero doubt in my mind that the throne will recognise you as the King of Magic.” Artemsia shares.
“Thank you Artemsia.” Valoran thanks with sincerity.
“Valoran, I know you will become the next King of Magic, no one is more deserving than you.” Aelina says.
“Hm, thanks Mother… we will see in three days what the outcome will be.” Valoran replies.
After that the three finished dinner and cleaned up everything.
Valoran senses something powerful shortly after.
“A powerful presence…just came out of nowhere.” Valoran thinks to himself.
Valoran looks over to Artemsia who looks just as confused.
“You can sense it as well?” Valoran questions.
“Yes, it’s him.” Artemsia replies.
“If he’s here, he probably wants to meet with me.” Valoran answers.
“What are you going to do?” Artemsia asks with curiosity.
“I will not keep him waiting.” Valoran responds.
“Mom.” Valoran calls out to Aelina.
“What is it?” Aelina questions.
“I will be heading out for a bit.” Valoran explains.
“But it’s late already.” Aelina says with concern.
“I’ll be careful.” Valoran says with calm.
“Alright then.” Aelina says.
Valoran leaves and casts irum (teleportation magic)
At an instant Valoran stands in front of a small hill covered by grass.
“I can sense your presence.” Valoran calls out toward the hill.
At the top of the hill a shape of human forms.
“I’m impressed that you were able to sense my presence despite disguising myself including my aura in nothingness.” A male voice says with amusement.
“It wasn’t hard to notice your foul presence…Daimos.” Valoran says with a smirk.
“Hahaha, it’s been a while since I have been talked to like this. It’s amusing.” Daimos says with amusement.
“Why are you here?” Valoran becomes serious.
“Hehehe, I’m here to congratulate you of course, in three days we will see if you become my new rival .” Daimos says with slight excitement.
“Hm, well thank you…how very kind of you.” Valoran says with sarcasm.
“I hope you are prepared for what’s coming if you are chosen.” Daimos says with a serious tone.

“The question is, are you?” Valoran counters.
“I will destroy you and with that the hope that I couldn't destroy 4000 years ago.” Daimos threatens.
“I will destroy you, something the previous Magic King hoped for.” Valoran promises.
“We will see, three days…in three days…” Daimos disappears.
“His presence is gone. He must have returned to the divine realm.” Valoran mumbles to himself.
Three days later.
Valoran is ready for his special day.
Valoran before leaving the home talks to his Mother.
“Mother, I’m heading for the castle.” Valoran says.
Aelina steps toward Valoran.
She looks up to face him.
“Valoran, I’m so proud of you. Whether or not the throne will accept you doesn’t matter, you managed to get this opportunity which many never have been given.” Aelina says with pride.
“Thank you Mother, whatever happens I am proud of myself and that I managed to get this opportunity.” Valoran says with pride.
“I’ll be going now.” Valoran says heading out the door.
Since it is no school day Artemsia stays home with Aelina since no one other than Valoran will be allowed to enter the castle.
“Good bye.” Valoran takes his leave.
Valoran casts irum (teleportation magic). At an instant he’s teleported in front of castle Black Burg.
The castle is huge, piercing through the clouds.
“So this is the castle. Up close the castle is ginormous. Let’s not keep them waiting.” Valoran mumbles.
Valoran walks up to the castle gates.
Three Guards wearing armour and armed with spears take notice of Valoran.
“Who are you? Don’t you take another step!” One of the guards firmly instructs.
Valoran stops in his tracks and raises both his arms to signal that he is unharmed.
“My name is Valoran Silver. I was to come here for the opportunity to sit on the thorne.” Valoran states to the guards.
The front gates of the castle open.
“Stand down.” A female voice instructs the guards.
The guards lower their spears.
“Yes Ma’am” The guards acknowledge and lower their spears.
A demi-human female appears from the gate and walks up to Valoran.
“You must be Valoran Silver.” The female states.
“I am.” Valoran replies.
“Allow me to introduce myself. I am Ziebiel Von Nolcia. I will be showing you to the throne.” Ziebiel introduces herself.
“A pleasure to meet you.” Valoran replies.
“Please follow me.” Ziebiel leads the way inside the castle.
Valoran follows Ziebel inside the castle.
Inside the castle Valoran notices the state of the inside.
“The castle is not well kept.” Valoran tells Ziebel.
Inside the castle it looks nothing like Valoran imagined. The walls have cracks, the inside of the castle is not clean and it seems deserted rather than staff ensuring that the castle is in pristine condition.
“Yes, there is a reason for this.” Ziebel shares.
“A reason?” Valoran questions.
“Yes, the castle’s structure was maintained by the previous Magic King’s immense magic. You see this castle was constructed with powerful magic, one of the roles of the previous magic king was to maintain the castle through magic.” Ziebel reveals.
“WIth the Magic King being dead for 4000 years the castle has deteriorated quite a bit.” Ziebel adds on.
“I see.” Valoran replies.
Eventually Valoran and Ziebel stand in front of the throne.
“This is the magic King’s thorne.” Ziebel declares.
It’s a black throne made of the strongest and highest quality of wood, with a red cushioned seat.
A Legion of Soldiers approach Valoran and Ziebel to witness Valoran taking a seat on the throne.
“Quite the crowd.” Valoran says with sarcasm.
“This is not the norm.” Ziebel reveals.
“When we heard that a 1st year would take a seat on the throne, everyone was excited to see if perhaps that someone who’s considered worthy at your stage to be seated on the throne.” Ziebel says.
“Hmm, is that so?” Valoran questions.
“Everything is ready. Whenever you are ready please take a seat on the thorne.” Ziebel kindly instructs.
Valoran begins to walk up the three stairs to the throne.
Valoran stands in front of the throne.
Valoran takes a seat on the throne…

Double-Blind: A Modern LITRPG
Choosing a college when your family is struggling can be difficult, but it isn’t supposed to be world ending. And the falling meteor is seriously limiting Matt’s options. Now in the aftermath, his home city is locked down by a mysterious dome, corporations are looking to monopolize a wealth of new untapped resources, and people are suddenly developing powers via a system that seems to have borderline sinister intentions. In the chaos, he decides to stick to what he knows: stay out of the spotlight, grind, and survive. Watch as Matt is dragged into a dark LITRPG set in the real world, where the price of failure is death, and the prize for winning is beyond his wildest dreams. ++++++++++++++++++ There’s a couple big influences here: Solo-Leveling, Squid Game, and Code Geass. If you enjoy LITRPG stories with morally gray characters, high stakes, and smart protagonists who start weak and eventually become powerful in a unique way, you’ll probably find something to like. But be forewarned. It won’t be easy. I'll be writing this fast, so keep in mind there's likely to be typos that we'll correct as we go. Developmental Editing by Lev.

Sword System Academia
2/17 NOTICE: I'm putting this on hiatus, possibly permanently. I didn't want to spam with an "update chapter", so hopefully here and in the story blurb will get enough eyeballs. There are a couple reasons for ending SSA for now. 1) I wrote the next chapter but wasn't happy with it. I've been less and less satisfied with SSA's quality the more I thought about it. Part of the reason is... 2) I am seriously thinking about trying to publish some novels to help pay the bills, since I don't have my other source of income anymore. I have never asked for anything from SSA readers, no money, not even a review or rating. SSA is written for fun to amuse myself, primarily, and I would kind of feel bad actually charging someone money for something as unserious as that. I don't think it is good enough to ask anything in return. To use an analogy from music, SSA is more like a jam session with a bunch of friends. You're just chiling and having fun playing some music. I mean, if you are Mozart or even Eminem, your jam session is good enough to sell, but for an amateur beginner like myself, haha, no. If I want to publish something, I feel like I need to go the proper route of practice and rehearsals, which might be more similar to a classical concert performance. With SSA, I work from worldbuilding notes and a loose outline, but what you are essentially getting is the first draft with lots of so-called pantsing. Pushing out a web novel like this also means it is very difficult to go back and improve things without breaking everything else downstream. I wanted to try this "jamming" approach, as it was a good way to teach me about another aspect of writing, but to move forward, I think I need to hone my "classical" techniques, which emphasize rewriting, or at least, revising outlines. 3) While I intend to try to make $$$, my actual current goal is to "get gud". I've spent a lot of time recently trying to understand the self-publishing industry, and I'm pretty sure I can make some money by using short-term strategies with my current amateur skill level. But I've seen too many authors come and go/burnout, and really, the only way that I think I can enjoy writing and still make money on a long-term basis is to become a better writer. And the next step for me, which I haven't done much before, is to spend more time on rewriting and outlines. That is pretty much antithetical to the way SSA is developing. I've always been kind of 20/80 plotting/pantsing, but I want to spend a lot more time outlining before I even start writing. SSA jam sessions don't really fit my goal anymore. If you're curious about what's next, read on... Among other regrets, I regret not finishing SSA. It's the first story I've dropped, but then again, it's the first web novel I've attempted, so I suppose that's not a surprise. I don't think traditional web novel formats suit me that well. The whole SSA story I had loosely planned (beyond a first book or major arc) is way too large as well. Big story = good for neverending webnovel with Patreons, bad for penniless and fickle writer like me. I am currently outlining a complete trilogy to another story in great detail. I want the story to end concisely, and I also want the chance to really spend a lot of time on the full outline to spot pacing problems, character issues, lost themes, and so on. I'll still share this story on RR. What I intend to do is finish book 1, flash-publish the whole thing here for a few weeks, then publish on the big Zon. Repeat for books 2 and 3. The upcoming story will be about crafting heroes. The backdrop is an isekai-like setting, where elves will summon humans to their world as heroes, but the whole hero crafting business is still in its infancy. The elven mage researchers are figuring out how to imbue heroes with power, while the heroes are trying to figure out how to use the powers that they gain. Humans are the best hero templates because they are blank and have no intrinsic magic. Or at least that what the elves thought. The human MC has his own secrets... There will be some similarities with litrpgs, but I would call it more a progression fantasy or gamelit story. For example, the stats are very low, at least initially. Say we have a stat called Str. Going from Str = 1 to Str = 2 is a huge deal. Also, going from Dex = 0 to Dex = 1 is an even bigger deal. I guess you could call it a "low-stat litrpg", haha. Also, the heroes won't be gaining stats simply by killing things or leveling up. You can't increase stats arbitrarily, either. There will be rules to how stats can increase, and how they work with each other. The elven mages will be figuring out these rules in order to craft stronger and stronger heroes. Some inspiration will be from cultivation magic systems, but there won't be overt cultivation, at least for now. A theme I really want to explore is the idea of interactions. That includes things like hero crafter vs hero, tactics vs strategy, skill synergies, racial interactions (dwarves, elves, etc), and son. Yeah, so hero crafting. I'm super excited about this project and venturing into publishing. If you want to check out the upcoming story, you can follow my RR author profile to see when it drops here. Finally... THANK YOU TO EVERYONE! I'm very sorry that SSA is stopping, but I hope at least some of you will find the next story at least as enjoyable, if not more. Thanks to all the readers who gave SSA a shot. Big hug or solid fistbump to all of you, whichever you prefer! I hope this message is not a downer but an upper, because I am psyched!! -purlcray -------------- BLURB: Talen, youngest Master of the Koroi, makes his way to the Empire's capital to salvage his clan's fate. But the bustling city has few opportunities for the traditionalist. For the old sword clans are fading. With the rise of alchemy, gold can purchase strength that ordinarily took years of training to cultivate. Sword artists, once rare and accomplished, are quickly growing in number, especially among the wealthy noble class. Even with such alchemy, though, no one has advanced to the rank of Grandmaster in countless years. Talen's true dream is to walk the path of a sword artist to the very end while fulfilling his clan duties. And then the Swordgeists return, fabled founders of all sword arts, gods who had touched the world long ago and vanished. These myths turned into reality warn of a coming threat. Alongside this warning, they issue an invitation to the Sword System Academy, a path to power beyond the mortal realm. But first, they will hold an entrance exam... Story notes:Sword System Academia blends elements of western and asian fantasy such as xianxia and litrpg. I took parts from different genres I enjoyed and twisted them into my own creation. There will be an explicit system, both of the litrpg kind and the hard(ish) magic kind, but it is embedded within an academic structure that will develop over the course of the story. This is my attempt to design a unique type of system, the System Academia.
