《How I Became A Jarl》Wanna Be Hero pt. 3

[ Eric ]
“Hey! We need to patch it up!”
I grabbed his hand again and then noticed something interesting. He had a grey tattoo on his left forearm. It wasn’t just some tattoo of birds or runes. It was almost like a tattoo of a blessed person. Is he the one I was looking for? What would be special about him?
[ Eric ]
“We’re gonna take care of that wound and later you’ll explain this to me.” I said as I raised his forearm high enough for both of us to see the tattoo.
[ Boy ]
“Okey. I live nearby. I might have some bandages there.”
[ Eirc]
“Fine with me. What’s your name? I’m Eric. This is Stella and my wolf Skyge.”
[ Dian ]
“My name is Dian.”
Dian took us to his house or whatever it was supposed to be. It definitely wasn’t built by a professional. Compared to this my house is very well made. The doors were much smaller than the hole made for them. The floor was cracking with every step. The roof had a patch on patch. There was only one room with a bed, table, wardrobe, and two chairs. He sat on the chair and was ready to pull the arrow out.
[ Eric ]
“Are you stupid?!” I shouted as I stopped him from doing that.
[ Dian ]
“What? I have to pull it out right?”
[ Eric ]
“First some bandages to have them on hand and if you pull it out like that you’re going to damage your hand even more.”
I found some rags in his wardrobe. I placed his hand on the table and took his sword. With one swift move, I cut out the tip of an arrow. I placed the rags under his hand and forcefully placed the sword handle between his teeth.

[ Eric ]
“Okey. Get ready. I’m pulling it on three… three!”
If not for the sword in his mouth he would be screaming. I saw that he put on a brave face but this one tear came out. It wasn’t bleeding very much because that arrow was pretty thin. When I took the sword away he continued to clench his teeth.
[ Dian ]
“That was awful! If you’ll excuse me. I need to relieve myself.”
Dian stiffly stood up and left the house. After a moment of silence, I heard a scream. It wasn’t loud but I could hear it because of how quiet it was here. He couldn’t hold it any longer. When he came back he had red eyes and his voice was cracking.
[ Dian ]
“Sorry for taking too long.”
[ Eric ]
“Now we can talk about that tattoo of yours.”
[ Dian ]
“I guess you know what tattoo it is?” Said Dian in a different voice than earlier. He wanted to sound like a total badass.
[ Eric ]
“You’re blessed by god.”
[ Dian ]
“Yes, I am! I was chosen by the greatest god! One of the heroes of Asgard! Meili!” Said the boy with excitement.
[ Eric ]
“Never heard of him.”
[ Dian ]
“Huh? But he is… How could anyone not know him?”
[ Eric ]
“Because I’m not from here.” I said as I showed my tattoo.
[ Dian ]
“You’re a blessed person! Too!”
[ Eric ]
“Yeah. I come from England and you?”
[ Dian ]
“Ehm… I don’t remember…”
[ Eric ]
“How can you not remember something like that?”
[ Dian ]
“... I was blessed when I was a kid…”
[ Eric ]
“That’s a bit unfortunate.”
[ Dian ]
“It’s not bad. It’s amazing! Being chosen by the god and being a hero and all of that!”
[ Eric ]
“Yeah… Depends on who blessed you. Being blessed by god, like Loki, isn’t fun at all.”

A TOURNAMENT OF SORCERERS… AND THE MISFIT WHO ENTERED IT. Ever since she was a little girl, Lucy Hardtvelt has wanted to attend the same academy of magic her mother had graduated from, as well as compete in the same, famous Sorcerers Tournament hosted there every year. And finally, after having her application accepted, Lucy is jubilant to begin her first year at the prestigious Greidwhen Academy for Mages. Unfortunately, Lucy soon finds that, unlike her mother, she herself has little to no aptitude in the magical arts—struggling to keep even the most basic of spells from blowing up in her face. Now, having been given a harsh dose of reality, Lucy must find out if she has what it takes not only to survive at Greidwhen, but also the Sorcerer’s Tournament and its one-thousand contestants where the winner will be given the title of Champion Sorcerer, as well as the right to challenge the Celestial Mages—who are known to have been defeated only a handful of times…

Shadows in the Dawn Mist
[participant in the Royal Road Writathon challenge] - Winner November 2020 When a young woman is lured back to her homeland for the opportunity of a life time, she must face old fears. But never would she think that facing up to her past would change everything. Is History written by the victors, or by someone or something else...? *** I started writing this a few years ago and eventually fell out of love with it. I never finished it and my newer books are being written in different writing style, and genre with a more planned process. I decided to revisit it for the writathon and found that it wasn't as hopeless as I'd come to think. Hopefully, I've improved as a writer since them so the consistency may vary. Its been good to revisit and analyse my writing which I feel used to have some clunky and obvious dialogue which I'm trying to fix. This will always be my first novel and I hope, with a little exposure, I may come to like it again. Thanks for reading!
