Aeder, Carvings of the Soul

The soul comes in two, a piece wrought from adra and a whole and transcendent cloth wrought of keter. Mortal and immortal.

When sorcerers cast their sorceries, they draw from their keter and gnosis to bind together magick in the physical. Whenever they cast from their Inner Source, keter must carve its way through their mortal souls, leaving behind etchings of arcana.

These carvings are called Aeder or Etchings of the Soul. These ingrain a sorcery unto a mortal soul, truly endowing a sorcerer with that spell. Even with a sealed Inner Gate, they can still cast that spell, and they do so with no internal waste.

The power of the spell is dependent on the thickness of the Aederic sigils carved unto their high-spirits. Too much strain upon them such as forced empowerment of a spell may rend apart the Etchings and thus break the spellform. This shall cause an Etching to behave erratically and be permanently changed. Though adra is plastique, and thus impermanent in form, it can never return to what it was before.

Aeder is different from adraic or aetheric attunement. Attunement simply changes the filtrative strands dwelling between the middle and high-spirits. This allows grey mana to passively transmute into a desired elemental type without much waste. Aeder is specific and much more complex than simple magickal transmutation of one energy source to another.

Carvings may coincide with Attunement. Their interaction changes both parties equally, but type and quality matters of either. For example, an Aeder spellform that possesses arcana antithetical to the Attunement of one’s high-spirit will clash whenever cast.

The adra must course through the Aeder spellform and thus be changed. And then, it must pass through the sympathetic bindings in between the Ether and Aether. These bindings are filtrative in function, transforming mana from one type to another. As such, a flame spellform will be weakened when passed through a water-attuned barrier.

Attunement may differ based on location, but it must always be balanced. Antithetical da’at, or arcana, will both assimilate and annihilate when present in the Aether.

For example, to contain both animatoric and thanatoric aspects in a single mortal soul, one must develop a glue to bind them together. Either a clashing residue wrought from their destructive relationship or a binding agent created through their similarities. The Arcana of War or Conflict may be used to keep them separate or the Arcana of Twilight or Accord may merge them in twain and create an amalgamation of both.

Any magi that carries a dual and conflicting creed possesses two choices. Conflict and unification. They either use the natural clashing of elements to their benefit, creating powerful annihilatory effects. Or they merge them to form an unnatural amalgam with unique properties.
