Inheritors of Sorcery: Bastard & Trueborn

Sorcerers come in two main types. Those trueborn, the rarest kind of sorcerer that inherents grand magicking talent, and partial sorcerers or bastard sorcerers. The most common of sorcerers are the bastards whose talent is lesser compared to the trueborn.

And yet even partial sorcerers are treated with honor and respect befitting the higher castes of any society.

Magicking talent comes in many shapes, be it general or specific. Bastard sorcerers will always possess at least one affinity for an element of sorcery or a much weaker aptitude for magick in general. A bastard sorcerer will usually possess anywhere from one to three sorcerous spells at the time of their Awakening. And then, they must study diligently in cobbling together further spells. Years of study in arcanistry, psionistry, spiritry, and wizardry are required to fabricate any grander or more numerous spellforms.

Partial sorcerers use up much of their adra to cast their spells as their souls are only partially awake and thus do not endow them with much in the way of extraneous magical energy. As such, they are wont to overdraw on their lifeforce and either ghoulify or lessen their lifespans greatly.

Trueborn sorcerers generally come unto the world every millenia and a quarter. And most come from sorcerous bloodlines as old as ancient civilizations. These inheritors of sorcery have greatly expanded life-expectancy with near-immortality so long as the damage is not instantly fatal. Their arcanums require only exposure to foreign arcana and magicks to conjure up new spells and further enhance their constitutions whether they be mercurial or somatic.

Yet, they are not entirely without flaw, for all under Heaven follow the Law of Balance. Great power requires equivalently great cost, and a trueborn sorcerer’s price is the volatility of their very souls. Eternal souls are on the level of higher beings such as astral entities and deities alike. As such, they are wont to either burn or twist a sorcerer, dousing them in sulfur and bathing them in acid.

A mortal body and mind is like wood. Divinity is flame. A sorcerer either dies like ashes, burning their life-force into nothingness. Or they become embers forever burning as remnants of divinity. Embers that may beheld the true nature of Acension or twisted relicts of a body warped by the soul.

Ghoulification is increased as is arcanofication for the trueborn. Manacarnofication is doubly amplified when a sorcerer is wounded.

Beware the pull of the Deep Waters for the Soul is wrought of Sulfur befitting the Six Hells of Qliphoth the Twisted Tree of the Abyss.
